Howdy fellow limey Ulysses riders, As there seems to be a few people on ADVrider ( www.advrider.com )and this here site who live in the southern half of the UK/England,I and Bigkuri (from both sites also) are up for a meeting incl. possible gravel road/mild off roading (given the Ulys limitations) sometime in the not too distant future. There's a guy from Wiltshire on ADVrider and I've heard there are some reasonable tracks there (can't track him down at the mo). Anyway it's only in the ideas stage at the moment, thought I'd throw it out there and see what interest there is. I'm not on UKBEG so if anyone knows if they already do such a thing or if anyone there is interested then let me know. UK Uly riders sign in please and post your thoughts on this. Look forward to your feedback,Hoon. |

Hoon, nothing is planned at UKBEG. However, Chris Jessop who organises most of the meets for the group is collecting an 08 Uly soon. I imagine he would be interested in hearing of such a ride. |

Thanks Steve, I finally got round to remembering my login details for UKBEG and am set up properly there now. CJ has expressed interest as have a couple of others. I now have a list of 6 Ulyphiles for this event, likely to be on road rather than off due to suitable roads being 'out of bounds' legally during the Winter months, unless anyone knows of a suitable place. Regards,Hoon |

Ooooh, a bunch of Ulys together, that could be a first! I think I'm the man from Wiltshire (Devizes) and have you thought about the tank tracks on Salisbury plain? I used to do them occasionally on my GS (managed to kill a gearbox on that bike on them) and mostly they should be ok for the Uly. There's some good fast smooth gravel roads that you can do up to about 70 - 80mph on if you like but with the wet weather they'll be pretty sh*tty and the bikes will be covered in mud in very short order. Plus, I've got road tyres on mine at the moment which means I'd be reluctant to go off road. Anyhow, I'm happy to go with the majority, if you want a road based tour I'll work out a route, maybe using Avebury as a start/finish point? Well known bike meet, Red Lion pub right by the stone circle. Someone pick a date and we'll all see if we can make it. For me personally, before November is gonna be difficult. Impending house move, plus me bikes in the shop the last week of this month having some warranty work and a nice Remus fitted, so I want to wait until after then! |

You are the man from Wiltshire! I like the sound of the tank tracks,if it's too sh*tty we could do just a small section for some photos maybe and save it properly for good weather (like you say,see what the majority want). Someone mentioned 'wet clay' and 'green lanes' on UKBEG and I inhaled sharply! If it's not too much hassle to plan a route, then yes,the Avebury run sounds interesting. On UKBEG I'm still asking for suggestions for locations, etc so don't go to too much trouble. Overnight stops may have to be considered for those coming from any distance (I wouldn't want to travel any further than from London to Avebury for a days ride (I may B&B/camp at that sort of distance anyway). Yes,it's looking like mid/late Nov for sure and I suppose we need to chose Sat/Sun or both maybe. Regards,Hoon. |

Whatever you guys do - you HAVE to post a video with sound of this meet. A couple of months ago we got four Australian Uly's together for a few hours of fun in the bush here south of Sydney, and the sound of all four together was freakin' awesome! (possibly because none of the bikes had the standard muffler) Good luck for day! Al |

Hoon, leave it with me I'll work out a route that includes some gentle tracks I know as well as some of the better roads round here. From London to Avebury will take you a couple of hours I guess, depends what time of day you want to start out. Will post in a day or so, too knackered now I've just been on a Yamaha off road training day - fantastic fun but now I just hurt! |

I don't know if you're talking to CJ @ UKBEG or not, but he got his '08 Uly last Saturday. |

Brilliant,I bet he's well chuffed. I was waiting to hear from Muppet before I posted about this again on UKBEG. I'll have to check in over there to see how big his grin is. |
