Good evening, I have a 99 Blue/white stripe X1 with a rogue unconnected gray electrical connector that is situated right under the flyscreen and goes back under the cover. Any ideas on what it might be for? Previous owner said first owner (who supposedly raced the bike) told him that "he would never use it, so don't worry about it". Hmmm.
Last thing, I have not yet followed the connector itself back to its destination. Unfortunately, it's easier for me to post a question then to block time to follow the wire. Thanks.

Corey

Do you have all your gauges? I'll look on my 02 and see.

How many pins? Shape? Orientation (i.e. 2 rows of 2, 2 rows of 3, one row of 4, etc) of the pins? I can take a look in parts lookup tomorrow if you get me some more information. Also does your bike have all the electrical stuff up front still installed - turn signals, headlight, 2 gauges, indicator lights, etc.?

Re-reading and noting the "ex-racer" side...could be for a shift light, or if it has a programmable ignition system like a Dyna or a TwinTec, it could be the data port....

Thanks for the responses. I have my full complement of gauges. The plug has 4 larger size pins surrounding an orange rectangle with a recessed middle. Pins are 1 just above each corner of the rectangle.

I agree with Numb. I bet it's the hook up for the ECM scanner. On my X1, it sits up front right next to the front rubber isolator. How it ended up behind the fly screen is another story...
