Finished up a project on the Uly aimed at inexpensively improving visibility and re-working the way the turn signal system operates. Very pleased with the results. Here is the list: -Install Backoff XP brake light modulator. Simple splice in to the rear brake light wire in the tail cone. About a 45 min job for me. Great results gives 5-6 flashes of the brake light then goes solid. - Install a Kisan SM-1 Signal Minder module to replace the existing flasher behind the wind screen. About 3 hour job for me, most of which involved the internal mod of the mechanical operation of the turn signal switch. Results were super great! Now have much improved functionality, at least for how my brain works while riding. -Turn signals now self cancel. Set them to a 8 second run time then cancel. Brake lever will over ride the cancel at a stoplight. -Eliminated the center "push to unlock" feature by filing down the ultra small plastic engagement dog on the internals of the switch. Now you push as normal to engage the turn signal and you do not have to push the center button to initiate the next turn signal use and also you can push the same direction on the switch and cancel the signal early. Really like that for quickie lane change. Never liked having to change hand position just a bit and push the center button. -Running lights. Front and rear now have 50% filament output on all four corners -The other modification was the dual running of the headlamps as is described in another thread. All great mods. $36 for a Backoff XP and $96 for the SM-1. Dual headlamp...free if you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night Really like the change of the turn signal operation. Much more intuitive. I know , should of took pi cutes....well I can post some pictures later of the results. Photos of the super small pieces 0f the internals of the turn signal switch would have been almost impossible. I'm damn lucky I did not lose a couple of parts because that seems to be the routine for me handling itssy bittsy pieces. Time for a test ride |
