thanks for the shout reepicheep. my 72 sportster started life as a 1000cc motor. the first year for 1000cc. i should have grabbed my shop manual to refresh the old memory, i can't remember the stock stroke but now it has a set of s@s 4and5/8 inch flywheels and 30 over pistons. i built this motor in 1980. a buddy did some light porting and i installed andrews v-9 cams and a mikuni 44 round slide carb. the cams made a ton of static compression and it was a bitch to kick start with no accelerator pump and just the enrichener. pulled like a tractor from idle and revved pretty good too. i think it came out to around 75 cubic inches displacement. at the time the bike was built with a paucho hardtail frame and kawasaki z-1 front end. i did not like the ride at all. now i'm about halfway into the cafe racer look on the stock frame that has been straightend after a unfortunate meeting with a cadillac grill. |

Cool! Thanks for the details Philip. I love the look of those very early sportsters. Bill |
