So far i have, lost one of my saddle bags twice, it comes off when i hit a bump or pot hole in the road, and i was wondering if anybody has come up with a fix to keep them in place and on the bike, or if anybody has the part numbers for the newer(2001??) saddle bag latches, if they are any better??

thanks much
Roger

Roger; I'm guessing you have the thumb screw latches? Same as me - no problems so far. But I look under the bag every time I mount them to make sure all the latch "fingers" are all the way in place across the mounting bracket.

The new latches - lever style - are nice, except that I've heard you need to be careful not to tighten them too much, or you can crack the bag.

Yup, Henrik, you are correct, the problem is, even if i check them, before a trip, one or 2(not sure how many) seem to come loose, or work there way to the off position, then all it takes is a good size bump, and off comes the right side, has happened twice, and the first time, i cant say that i checked it, and could have even put it on wrong, however, everytime after that, i have checked and double checked, and it still fell off, and on several times has come loose, enuff for me to hear it(lucky) and fix it, i was hoping for some, i dont know, clamp or way to keep it in place
thanks Henrik, but i want to make sure that it dosent fly off again, i am getting tired of painting the thing
thanks
Roger

There should be some rubber pads on the inside of the bracket where the latch hooks on. Mine would come loose after a while and I'd replace them with the little 1"x2" adhesive backed rubber pads that my service guy always seems to have plenty of. What they're used for on Harleys I have no idea but check with your service guy, I bet he'll have some to give you.
Clean off the bracket where the pad goes with Windex or rubbing alcohol and stick them on. I'll bet your luggage will stay put. I never had mine come off in 31,000 miles.
