About 3 weeks ago my father and I did a 3500 mile round trip from Dallas, TX to Red Lodge, MT. I had 8900miles on the 06 Uly when I started the trip. I noticed on the way home the fan started operating at weird RPM's, meaning it didn't sound like the normal whirl. Flash forward to this last weekend, he and I left out from Dallas, TX to Eureka Spring, AR. About 150 miles from ES, the fan starting chattering and died. The Check Engine light came on and would stay on. I finished the 1100mile round trip with no fan, meaning I put about 800 miles on the bike with no fan. I run Mobil 1 VTwin 20/50. Do you guys think I did any damage to it? Side note, related issues.... I serviced the bikes fluids and replaced the Syn3 in the crank case with Mobil 1 20/50 and I also put it in the primary. I noticed within 100 miles from home the clutch seemed to be slipping. I adjusted the cable but to no avail, seems the Mobil 1 was not meant for the primary. Also started out with the rear master cylinder fluid a nice piss yellow color. Upon arriving home from the trip it is now black! Nice.... more concern over over heating the bike.... Looks like I will be replacing my brake fluids. Last rant, front disc brake is pulsating like crazy. All of this happening in one 1100 mile weekend ride. |

Mobile recommends the Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 for use in the primary/transmission. I changed the engine to Mobile 1 V-Twin at 5,000 miles but will not change the primary till the 10,000 mile service. I'd be really surprised if you had any damage especially if you didn't notice it going into skip spark mode. Dennis |

"Front brake lever pulsating?...the old warped rotor syndrome....been dere done dat...twice....under warranty... Thats scary~ I am hoping for the best, I contacted my dealer and they told me over the phone the fan would be replaced under warranty. I haven't told them about the front brake yet. Plus my fuel light is on all the time now too. I will go back with the sport trans in the primary and see if the slippage goes away. Please understand I am not complaining about the Uly. I LOVE HER! Just damn the luck on this last trip. |

There are alot of posts about the break dust buildup from the factory pads which seem to cause a pulsing sensation, and switching to the Lyndal Gold pads seems to resolve the problem. |

If the bike didn't go into skip spark mode, you are probably fine. SSM is the last gasp of the ECM to prevent real damage. It uses unused fuel to cool the cylinders by taking the spark out of each cylinder intermittently. Sounds like you have managed to save up your issues for one trip. Bravo. It will minimize the down time. I had the rotor replaced under warranty. Eventually went to Lyndalls. THIS SHOULD BE YOUR NEXT UPGRADE! My fuel pump was replaced with the BAS at the 1,000 mile service, fan at 5,000 service. The only problem that returned was the BAS failed a second time. Other than that, everything was covered under warranty and stayed fixed. Anyway. I think you're fine. I really doubt that any damage was done. |

Do you guys think I did any damage to it? Probably not. Same thing happened to me on the way to Barber last year. Tried my best to stay away from stop and go traffic all the way home. This was the #1 reason I bought the RSS. If the fan quits on a trip again, I won't sweat it near as much. If your bike didn't begin skip spark mode, I don't think you overheated. |

My experience with the Lyndall Gold pads on the ULY is the rotor just warped faster. "The Truth and Nothing But the Truth"..Sorry. |
