I just got my new black Ulysses yesterday, my fiancee and I love it. When I was getting the bike yesterday, they told me that I had to use their Harley- Davidson oil or it would void the warranty. Has any one heard this- is this true? Thanx Tom

Ask them if they are familiar with the Magnussen-Moss Act?

When they say no, let them know that your attorney will help them to become very familiar with it. ;)

. . .and by the way, just in case this has not already occurred to you . . .you need quickly find a different dealer, after either you or your attorney has spoken with the dealership owner.

YMMV

Thanx for the reply, that's also what I thought. P.S. I told the sales person I thought that was against the law. He just looked at me. Thanx Tom

Tom,

I went to SBU in Bolivar! Talk to Josh at Cycle Connection in Joplin. He'll hook you up with what you need. I would definitely find another dealer, but near Springfield, it might be a little tough.

Just one side note....

The Harley full syn oil is very good oil, and while it's expensive, it's not that much worse then Mobil 1 V Twin or other high end "specially for Harley motor" oils.

I run whatever full synthetic 20w50 I can find for conveniently and cheaply (generally $5 per quart). It's almost always Castrol Syntec 20w50 or Valvoline Full Synthetic 20w50.

LOL, ask him how he would know?

Better yet, ask him if that's because it is easier to clean up off the floor??

Salespeople are sometimes idiots...

Funny thing about most sales guys. They know less about the product than the person buying it most times. Of course, there are some great, knowledgeable, sales folks, and those are who you have to find.

That's what I loved about Daves. I could email him and say, "Send me plugs, brake pads, and tranny fluid" and I'd get exactly what I needed because HE KNEW what I needed better than I did. He wasn't even the service or parts guy, but he knew that stuff too. It was one stop shopping. My local dealer has a pretty good service department, but their parts department and sales department are pitiful. I went to order a pinch bolt and the parts person said, "What's a pinch bolt?". I had to point it out in the catalog!

In order to be a good salesperson, you have to know your product and believe it your product. That's the biggest hurdle for Buell. Most Harley salesmen don't like Buells, don't want to sell them, and don't know much about them. They think we're all stupid for not buying a V-Rod because it's got more power. : )
