My CityX has been in the shop for 21 days. I am jonesing for a new ride. I am looking at the new XB12TT (which is the bike I WOULD have bought if they had it) and then there is that lil bird rumor mill for the new Dual Sport. I know that as soon as I pull the trigger on the XB12STT the new Dually will come out. Just my luck. So those of you out there riding the TT, any off road riding use with them? Any Fire road rides with them? I am NOT giving up dirt. Might have to change my name to CityXXslicker I know its not a ULY but I will be riding it like one

Hey Cityxslicker,

which thread is yours? I would like to read through it and maybe put in my $.02.

Thanks.

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/286439.html?1182573784 That should get you there, I was hoping somebody else had this problem too. Or maybe just the electrical gremlins are conspiring against me personally

Did you check the fuel pump? If it were a car, thats what I would be looking at.

I helped a friend debug a home rebuilt VW van, and it would run fine up to about 50 mph, and then cut out then cut back in under odd circumstances. Would not do it in the driveway. The rebuilder had wired the fuel pump into the coil, and under high enough load, the voltage dropped down low enough for the fuel pump to be inneffective. Finding that was *no* fun.

Worked before and doesn't work now? I would replace the last thing done with the assumption it was OBF, out of box failure. ECM? I am just guessing. Has your dealer tried a different ecm?

snapping in ecms as fast as I can get them, had the race ecm originally, went to a new race one, tried a new stock one, and ecm from an after market company. none of them solved the problem. Will check the fuel pump and relays. Am I really giggling this sh@t that loose by taking this bike offroad? Not like I am catching big air on the thing, just fire roads at a fast clip. : |

There are four wires exposed to chafing on the fuel pump. The pump is inside the gas tank located near the riders left leg. Three of these wires shorted out on mine causing it to blow fuses and die..that was with 3 wires exposed...maybe you have one or two exposed...pump has to be pulled..do NOT remove the swingarm as the book says..just remove bolt on lower shock mount and pump will extract from tank. Wires are rubbing behind a metal clip on pump.

Okay, same symptoms on multiple ECMs rules out the ECM being the problem. That leads us to the problem being in one (or more) of the inputs to the ECM.

I would start with the fuel system inputs and outputs. Specifically the TPS. Check the resistance from the wiring harness through the TPS and also check for shorts to ground from those pins.

I would also look closely at the wiring to the BAS - looking for shorts to ground.

Which fuse(s) keep blowing? I would look for shorts to ground on the circuits that those fuses feed.

I don't really suspect anything in the crank position sensor or other timing related issues since it does actually start and run for a bit. Usually they won't start at all when the problem is in those areas.

I knew I should have brought my service manual in to work tonight for some light reading!

I possibly have some time Mon or Tues if you would like me to zip over and take a look at it. Sounds like the thing is at the garage where you work? I'm only about an hour away from there.
