 The RAM mount (RAM-B-231Z) will fit there, check your local dealer or hardwareshop for longer bolts.  View from below, standard Rammount arm.  I use the poweroutlet, it's there so why not use it.  View is ok, I'm used to this, I had a Streetpilot 3 mounted on my XB12S the same way.  Downside is that for filling up I will have to rotate the GPS. | ||

Nice...why not rotate it to the right...at ~2 o'clock looking down on the handlebar? or to the ~10 o'clock for left hand use? | ||

They get more of them European "miles" in an hour but they are shorter. 260 KMH = 161.5565 MPH. For easy mental math on your ride around the world: KMH x .6 = MPH (30 KMH = 18 MPH) MPH x 1.6 = KMH (30 MPH = 48 KMH) I always just remember and use 6 and 16, the decimal placement is obvious. Jack | ||

Very nicely done...a very clean install. Out of curiousity, does the mount provide sufficient vibration protection for the GPS? I've got mine in a Touratech mount that rises above the crossbar. Pictures tomorrow... | ||

I have used a Streetpilot 3 this way for over 30000km and it is still in perfect working order. So protection from vibration is OK. I'd like to see your Touratech mount solution. | ||

I like that placement, since it's out of the airstream it should be protected from a direct impact from bugs/rocks/ etc. Do you just rotate it out of the way for refueling, or do you have to remove it? | ||

Nope
Nope With a program called xImage (from Garmin) you can upload your own made startup screen to most new Garmin GPS models. You can also re-edit poi's (points of intrest). I use smileys for some of my friends  It's pretty simple once you know what you are doing. | ||

Hey, I downloaded the xImage from the Garmin site, but was not able to customize the set-up screen on my 27 SIX (276c)...is it because it is an older model? Thanks... | ||

I've checked with my (dutch) GPS dealer forum and the 276C should also be able to have the startup screen changed. | ||

Maybe this will help  Your GPS will show in this screen (here's my 278C) Click Next.  Select Get images from GPS. Click Next  Set imagetype to Splash screen. Click next.  Select the folder where you would like to save the Garmin Splash screen.  Here you see what xImages saved and where it was saved. Now you can change this splashscreen.bmp with photoshop or any other program you prefer. When done save the new but do not change the name !! Make a copy of the splashscreen.bmp Lets upload!!  Click Send images to GPS. Click next.  Make sure that imagetype is on Splashscreen and select the splashscreen. Click next.  You should see this.  If all went well this should be the final screen. Well, it WORKS! I dunno WHAT I was doing wrong before... Thanks a LOT... I used Paint (no Photoshop) so the image quality is low, but now I have each GPS (I have 2) with the photo of the vehicle it is used for... It does work! And pretty much a no brainer too.  That's me sitting in my recliner in the living room with my 76Cx on the arm and my laptop in my lap. An 11 bird differential fix, that's about as good as it gets. Then I moved on and did the POI loader. I wound up with all the H-D dealers added to the POIs on my 76Cx. You can get the H-D ones here: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56474 and a bunch of other POI collections are here: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56474 All free of course. In about 2003 or so Garmin shifted from Tele-Atlas to NavTeq for their map data. The Tele-Atlas mapping was of more interest so some of us for some reasons. It had more smaller and secondary roads, bodies of water, railroad track rights of way, and many many more hills and mountains. So if you look at some of the obsolete, never to be made for sale again, Garmin mapping you can find things like service roads that go up to mountaintop repeater and relay sites and some fire and service roads that are not seen on any of the newer maps. The roads are sometimes paved, maybe degraded but rideable, some are improved dirt roads, some are turn around and go away because they are blocked or too deteriorated for my taste. The maps will often let you tell that an interesting looking road is other than someone's private driveway. But I've found a lot of easy (for a Buell M2 or Dyna FXD) rides here in Maine to places that offer spectacular vistas and some other neat things. I'd have never seen moany of them without those maps. Send me a mailing address to jacker@midmaine.com and I'll mail you a DVD that will broaden your horizons. You can look at them in MapSource and they'll upload maps to most Garmins. These maps are great for the Uly riders that want to get off the track a little. Jack | ||

Jack, thanks for the link.  I've done some work in Mapsource myself and with poiloader I just loaded all Harley/Buell dealers in Holland, Belgium, Germany and Switserland. I'm gonna go on a little trip to the Alps next july with some bikerfriends so it might be handy to have the dealers adresses on the GPS. You seem to be getting a little garbling on some of the words there. :>  Actually I've visited The Netherlands a couple of times in the past and always enjoyed my stays there very much. Unfortunately the last time was in about 1974. We spend a night at a campground near Boom, do you know that town? I used to have a photo of my self standing by a sign with the town's name on it. I had my fingers stuck in my ears to block the noise, I thought it was pretty funny. But we had a wonderful time in Holland. Me, the wife, and two sons, all in a VW Squareback with all the camping gear on a roof rack. I was in the U.S. Navy and stationed in Spain then. Jack | ||

Hey, just wanted to let you all know thanks to the recent GPS mounting threads, I went and ordered myself up a RAM mounting kit and some piece parts from Radio Shacka and a Garmin Motorcycle Power/Audio cable... The GPS was my wife's seldom used bean bag mount used exclusivly in here Explorer - Well, no more. I'm gonna get our money's worth out of it now. Thanks again guys..   | ||
