Hi All,

What is the best gasket/technique to make sure the race header seals to the head?

Carl,
I like the older smaller gaskets now provided by Jim's. The new tapered style will seal more effectively, but can also obstruct the exhaust port outlet. Just cram the new gaskets into their seats before fitting the header, it will be a tight fit.

As far as installation goes, you want to leave everything loose until it is all connected and aligned with no binding at any joints. Once everything is aligned and connected with no binding, start to snug things up little by little leaving the collector joint loose until the very last and making sure it is not in a bind. After you run the bike for the first time, you will want to check/retorque the header stud nuts as the gaskets have a tendency to relax during the first heat/operational cycle.
