The idea of 1000 individuals donating $250 each is a very noble one, although I'm sure sure that Blake will agree that turning pledges into hard cash isn't always that easy.

The problem with the plan is that unless Hal's or Rich Cronrath can be persuaded to run a full on team in FX next year, there is no 'team' set up to go racing even if the money were to be raised.
This would mean establishing a brand new team from the ground up, which would be a tall order at this late stage (remember most FX teams have already started testing for 2007!).
Not only would you need the experienced wrenches that Slaughter mentioned earlier, but you would also need other key personnel, including a top flight rider capable of top 5 finishes!
Then you would need to buy the bikes (2 at least), spares, tyres, transportation and other logistics and assemble everything at a permanent 'base' somewhere. Then get some serious winter testing underway to get everyone familiar with the bike and work out any problems prior to the season starting.
Running an inexperienced team at AMA or any other top flight national level is, in my humble opinion, a recipy for disaster and one that is sure to cost every cent of the budget (and probably more) without any chance of a decent result in the first year. Then what happens for 2008?

Far better to get somebody experienced and close to the factory such as either Hals or Innovative Motorcycle Research to run the team if possible, but even then it is very late to start planning now.

This is all I really care about hearing-if its there, I can root for them, if they have a plan, then so can I, and I have put money up before for less of a cause, so count me in. All I want to know is if there's a plan to keep this going and according to you Mr. Canfield there is...

"The "GOOD NEWS" is that Buell owners..."

Court, what was the good news you were intending to share? You kinda went off-track there waxing poetic about Team Elves.

All,

On the topic of supporting Buell Factory Racing in FX... Cut out the middle man. If you want to help fund the Buell racing effort send your donations made out to "Buell Racing" in care of Erik Buell, Steve Anderson or Henry Duga. If we want to collect all the donations first in order to make one big presentation, you can send them to me or anyone else who might care to volunteer to keep an envelope full of checks made out to "Buell Racing".

Before you commence, please let me first confirm that "Buell Racing" is the proper payee designation.

Too simple? : )

Additionally, sponsors such as Hal's and Liberty and any other BadWeB sponsoring racing dealerships are free to propose their own FX Racing plan and solicite our help here.

How bout a badweb sponsorship-get a nifty sticker on a bike or two. Would that cause problems by increasing the need for bandwidth? Plus I'm sure it would make some of the sponsers happy as it would increase traffic and maybe get more folks to their door...Could be a lot of work but it would be fun...

Rocket,

PLEASE do yourself, me, and everyone here a HUGE favor and avoid entirely posting your dry British humor on BadWeB; it does NOT translate. First go off and actually read the bible then come debate me on the topic, but not in this thread.

Court,

Matt is well experienced in racing, even more so than Steve I think. Not sure though. Regardless, you'll be happy to note that Matt and Steve seem to be in concurrence.

I'm still interested in how HDMC "has a HUGE, unbelievably HUGE, incentive to invest in Buell." Or did you mean "HDI"?

HDI I agree has a big incentive to invest in BMC. I don't see the same to be true for HDMC, in fact one might even argue that the opposite might be the case.

From an email I received:

Hi Scott, my name is Stuart Wells and I work in the sales department at Trev
Deeley Motorcycles. I received a message off our site regarding the XBRR in
the AMA FX series.

The Deeley bike that you have seen Steve Crevier on is sponsored by the
Canadian distributor Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada. Our dealership is the
only Canadian retailer owned by the distributor and we carry the Deeley
name.

I'm close friends with Darren James who is the five time Canadian Thunder
champion and the race coordinator for Buell in Canada. Darren works closely
with Steve and I believe we are trying to get the XBRR to compete in the
Canadian Superbike series. I'm not sure if we'll be competing in the AMA FX
series, I have a message in with Darren and I'm waiting to here back.

What I have stated here is not confirmed, hopefully I'll know more when the
Canadian motorcycle shows finish.

Thanks for your message, I like yourself am an avid race fan and I love to
see the Buells competing amongst the overseas brands. I should no more in
the near future, you can drop me a line any time and I'll keep you updated.

Best Regards,
Stuart Wells, Sales
Trev Deeley Motorcycles

Looking (very briefly mind you) at the Canadian Series rule-book there may be a few things that need revised to make this happen. However there is no displacement limit for their SuperBike class.

http://www.cdnsuperbike.com/press/2006_PCSC_Rulebo ok.pdf

The Canadian season (I believe) starts later and ends earlier, so there may be some possibilities for them to participate in FX as well.
Interesting, we'll se what happens.

I think Court is referring to the benefit HDMC reaps from Buell's R&D efforts.

There is a transfer of technology happening there, predominantly in the sportsters,
but it is spreading into the rest of their product line.

So, HDMC does stand to benefit from Buell going to the track and learning more about
how to make their motorcycles better, even testing parts to destruction. : )

Very true. Since wadding the bike, I've become a pundit - this month will be my return to racing for the first time since the high side a year ago February which put me in the wheelchair for 4 months.

I'm a Club racer - Matt is "making a living" at racing... well, kinda/sorta. He also has to have a "real job" outside of racing!

I'm just throwing money at it.

Geez boys and girls - I know where an "unattached" RR is sitting right now TODAY. It can be gotten for a discount IF the dealer's name is named as a sponsor.

I can offer my bike as a "B" bike, maybe if we can get living space commitments at each venue next season, we might cut out overhead for a few days. Volunteer transport... dunno.

Still need dealer involvement in order to get spares (there are NO direct sales out of Duga/Buell racing)

It would be really cool if it could happen.

Of course, just to be clear, I am NOT the rider for FX! (don't have the points to race AMA anyways)

I can name one rider who can do it - Scott Jensen. He's already committed to the AMA SBK season and has GPR stabilizer sponsorship so he CAN get the bike to each AMA race in the truck. He has NO money on his own - he's bleeding himself dry just doing the whole AMA SBK season but he DID say that if a bike found its way to him, he could get it to the races.

He's a mechanic at Arrowhead HD/Buell in AZ. He's been an AMA racer for a bunch of years and MIGHT do pretty well on an RR - BUT his sponsor commitments are based on SBK.

EDIT: Scott Jensen is NOT the only racer deserving of support! He's just the only one I know of who is already committed to the full SBK series so transportation is already "in the bag."

Much better to have a previous Buell racer do the honors - Walt Sipp for example, or any of the other suspects.

Well, hopefully the Blue Springs crew will be able to make a few AMA races. It's not too clear what schedule we'll be doing, but we learned a lot in the last few races of '06. I think we'll be quite a bit more competitive in '07.

"For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession."

Deuteronomy indeed, not God. In fact I don't think I've ever read anything written by God.

I don't see why religion needed to be brought into a discussion about Buell racing.

Well many years ago, about 2000 give or take, Buellius Caesar raced a twin horse chariot in Formula Extreme Stadium. I believe he and his supporters had great difficulty obtaining sponsorship from The Senate. Funny how times have not changed.

Sorry, couldn't resist the ole dry British sense of humour gag.

Deuteronomy was indeed physically written by Moses. However the Bible is the inspired word of God, so if you've read any Bible, you've read a great deal written by God.

I agree that we should get back to racing though. Where did Court go?

You are going to hell (you know who you are). The REAL reason there's no FX team the coming season is the war in IRAQ, the Democrats taking over Congress and the fact that godless heathen ... I'll think of something.

Is this a sign that a thread has outlived its value - when people drag religion and politics into it?

Time to bring up whining expressions about being oppressed again?

I don't care about God's or god's or jaweh's or the Flying Spaghetti Monster's oversight of the racing activities. Really I don't.

Though Pastafarianism is looming larger and larger.

I TOTALLY AGREE. THE MONEY GOES TO ERIK BUELL HIMSELF, AND HE DECIDES WHAT TO DO WITH IT. THIS WAY HE REALIZES THAT THE BUELL OWNERS WANT TO SEE BUELL RACING.

MAYBE THAT WILL WAKE HIM UP!!! HE MUST REALIZE HE IS BUILDING SPORTBIKES AND NOT CUSTOMS LIKE H-D.

IF YOU BUILD SPORTBIKES, YOU HAVE TO RACE THEM !!! YOU OUGHT IT TO THE PEOPLE THAT BUY THEM!! ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A SMALL FACTORY, TRYING TO SURVIVE AGAINST THE JAP GIANTS. YOU NEED TO CREATE A GROUP OF FANS, LIKE DUCATI DID WITH DUCATISTI. THEY HAD FINANCIAL PROBLEMS AND THEY STILL TOOK 851 TO RACE. THE JAP BIKE BOYS WERE LAUGHING AT THEM AT THAT TIME........THEY DON'T LAUGH NOW, DO THEY ?

BLAKE, ORGANIZE THIS NOW!!

SENT ME A PAYPAL ADRESS AND I SENT $250 TO YOU. DO IT NOW. I CAN SEND NO CHECK FROM GREECE. BUT WITH PAYPAL IT IS EASY FOR ME.

I SPEND WELL OVER $250 ON MY BIKE WHEN I TAKE IT FOR A WEEKEND RIDING ON THE TRACK!!

BUELL SUPPORTED ME, BY REPLACING MY BLOWN 5000miles OLD MOTOR UNDER WARRANTY. NOW I FEEL LIKE DOING SOMETHING TO SUPPORT BUELL RACING. THIS WAY THE NEXT BUELL I BUY, WILL DEFINATELY BE BETTER. IT WILL BE RACE DERIVED. THIS IS GOOD INVESTMENT.

SOMEONE HAS TO DO THE START NOW!! IT COULD BE ME, NO PROBLEM.

GO BUELL !! GO BUELL !!

A very good idea Blake. Although shouldn't people wait to hear some confirmation or comittment from the above named people before sending money? If the factory are not willing to run or at least fund a team then sending them money may prove a little pointless maybe?

Walt Sipp has stated that he is looking at doing at least some AMA rounds and is the only guy so far to put his head above the parapet that has the experience and equipment to do FX. He has the team set up and has ridden the bike already, so is at least 10 steps ahead of the game compared to anyone else in the frame so far.
Maybe the fund should go to him & his team?
