Greetings from New Zealand,the buell dealers tell us here that they are unable to get the 616,they think that dunlop may have the huff because the 07 models come out with the sync's ,anyone heard any thing?

I've been trying for a while.

I've been told sometime in Nov.

I think they sell so few that Dunlop only produces them a few times a year. Hopefully they won't stop completly.

I'v tried Daves, Motorcycle Accy Warehouse, and Cycle Gear. They all say the same thing.

I was anticapating this so I hoarded a couple of pairs earlier this year. I should have enough to get me through the next few months.

I've used the Pirelli Scorpion Sync's and they were ok. They are not as dirt oriented and did not last much longer than the 616's to justify the higher price. IMO the "swimming" is not that big an issue. (stand by, I'm gonna get flamed!!)

Edit: BTW, I heard Nutosane has a lightly used set for sale. If you are ready to buy now I'd contact him asap.

Hey, I'll agree with you, the swimming not that big of a deal. I just like the Scorpion tires for their superior traction in the rain. I've seen the D616's on the shelf at the local Cycle Gear store for months now.

Cycle Gear must have quite a few spread all over the country.

I'm about ready to see if my local store can get me some from another store without nicking me for additional shipping.

How much with shipping? (WA state)

I know the H-D/Buell dealers have a tough time matching tire price with the independents.

I pay about $220 a pair delivered to my door. About $245 with tax through Cycle gear. I can get all the Sync's I want mail order for about $250. As I said earlier I'm ok for now. I'm kind of a tight wad. (tires tend to be my biggest expense, next to fuel) But maybe Kiwi is interested?

Note: I think he is "down under".

Man that ride looks like it was fun.
I saw mud like that riding an XL250 in Pennsylvania one time where my front fender was as high as the Uly front half and it did the same thing. Tread doesn't make any difference.

I know I can't touch online site prices. They run a business out of a warehouse, we run out of a nice dealership, there is a huge overhead difference. I have 5 fronts and one rear in stock.

I was wondering if someone would notice that it was black. About the only colored body part you can see is the flyscreen. (and it's kinda dirty) I should've known it would be Slayer

But I guess that that LOUD barracade orange color has it's way of ozzing out from under just about anything.

I do like the 616's. I enjoy the dirt ability of them. I appreciate that Eric & co. provided the most aggresive dirt oriented 17" radial V rated tire available. (My opinion, of course) I don't have as much a issue with them as some riders have. (squirming, wear, ect,ect.....) I intend to use them as long as I can get them. And the price is right as well.

Although I'm going to try a set of the Syncs here soon I also am happy with the 616's. Yeah the front hunts especially in CA rain grooves (you want to see squirm, try 616's and 80 mph and sidecases on rain grooves during Santa Ana winds!) but they've never let me down unless I did something dumb.

Local Cycle Gear has a new set on the rack, even though the local mom-pop store is still waiting for the one I ordered in July.

I just installed BT020's due to a nail in my rear tire. The 616's were awesome in the rain and in trail riding. I looked all over and the only answer I got was on order, no real eta. So I went with what I've used in the past on my other bikes. The wandering feeling in the front is now gone but I'll be a bit reluctant to wander off the paved roads. Too bad, I was very satisfied with the 616's and ordered a new rear anyways, expecting it will come in eventually.

While looking at the 06 and 07 side by side yesterday, I thought the Sync had a fairly aggressive tread pattern, altho not so much as the 616. Since they aren't knobbies, i.e. you aren't getting mechanical lock with the road surface, the sipes serve more for channeling out water than traction, per se. So how much would the difference between the 2 tread patterns really affect the handling on a gravel surface?

sounds reasonable. I would guess that Erik, in his infinite wisdom, wouldn't switch to a tire that would lessen the Uly's adventure bikeishness. What was I thinking?

Biggest differences are hard cornering and wet pavement. Some say d616 is better in dirt and mud, I have a dirt bike for that, but I can tell you it is a little better on wet grass.

I've got about 4500 on my rear and looks to have another 2k to go. Had to replace the front a while back because of a nail. I guess weighing 170 might have something to do with it. And I keep my grass in a ziploc baggie....

I have 7200 miles on my stock D616 and I know they will easily last till my 1000 service, maybe even longer! They won't last as long as my stock tires on my 1998 Ms Cyclone. I put over 15000 on the rear before changing that one and when I traded it in on my Ulysses, it had over 19000 on the stock front tire. Never ever had a flat tire on that machine.
On my Ulysses, I had to plug the back tire at 1100 miles but it's been good ever since with the plug in it.

I got my new 616 rear on Friday. Dang are the carcass on these things thin. Guess I'm use to the thick hide of a tube type desert tire.
