day nine, continued. we had a great ride this day, doing, among other great venues, the amazing Cherohala Skyway, the pavement made even better (if possible) by actually being dry. we covered a lot of ground today, saw some awesome North Carolina and Tennesee countryside, and made a very full day of it. there was passion, adventure and camaraderie at every turn. on the ride back to Franklin, just a few minutes outside of town, we stopped to pay our respects to JB2's Dad, Mr. Big Jim Bantz, at the site where he was killed on his Harley back in 2002.  day ten. this is Henrik signing a "Thank you" card that JB2 got for Mikey and Sue for us all to sign, outside the restaurant where Sue works (where we'd just had breakfast), a really cool gesture for a couple of really cool people. thanks again Mikey and Sue!!!  our "trophy" today was the incomparable Wheels through Time motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. this place is AMAZING!!! i've got a ton of pix to post from our visit, and will try and start on them tonight. here's the opener (actually taken just before we left, but it's the only decent exterior shot i have of the museum, so used it here as an intro), taken as Henrik fantasizes about doing BRATPAC III on this old Harley Servi-Car. so here's the deal: there's something like 250 old, classic American motorcycles in Dale Walksler's "Wheels through Time" musuem, and ALL OF THEM RUN! think about that for a second before you read on: everything in this place is operational. it's not at all unusual to be gawking at a beauty of an old Harley or Excelsior and have Dale himself walk up and fire it up for you, right in the museum. this place is truly overwhelming, and no amount of photos or words could even come close to conveying the experience. heck, we spent a couple of hours there, and only absorbed maybe a millionth of what this place has to offer anyone with an appreciation for the rich, storied heritage of our sport. to anyone reading these words, who has heard about this place and thought, "Yeah, maybe, someday, I'll go there and check it out," you will NOT be disappointed. so then, here are a bunch of pix, 99.9% shot with ambient light, of just SOME of the stuff that caught my eye. there'll be very few captions; the machines speak more eloquently than i.
