Hello BWB's
I have had a rummage through the archives & couldn't see that this subject had been covered in quite the same way as I have attempted to fix it.
I don't know about other territories but in the U.K. our XB9S's main (low-beam) lights are on all the time. When switching to high-beam the low-beam unit goes out and the adjacent high-beam unit comes on. I have added a chunky diode to my wiring so that when High beam is selected both units illuminate. The diode gets a little warm so I have mounted a stud-type diode on a heatsink. There is a convenient hole nearby if you remove the clip that holds the headlamp connector. This doesn't affect the passing light or the main (i.e. low) beam.
I actually ride very little on high-beam but when I do the lights are now greatly improved.
I realise that the extra 4.8 amp drain might be too much for the generator so I have fitted a switch to remove the link if the battery starts to drain. I shall keep an eye on the wiring over the next few weeks to see if there are any signs of overheating.
If you think this might be useful to you then try holding the passing switch on at night; this will duplicate the effect of the modification & you can judge whether you wish to add the diode link permanently.

This was covered well here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/219367.html?1155561891 . I've actually done the wire-switch mod and it works well! Note: To maximize electrical system life, I do not run both lights while starting and turn off high beams when not needed. I run them quite often though, and have had no problems doing so to date.

Yes I read that. But by using a diode the low-beam works as normal but when you switch to high-beam both lights come on.
This saves having to use a relay & means that the generator is only under heavy load while high-beam is selected.
