hey guys, I find the easiest way for me to mount my Uly, is if I leave the bike on the stand, put put one foot on the peg and throw a leg over the saddle. then I can drop a leg on the other side, and get moving...I weight 160lbs....can the stand handle the weight of my body time and time again if I consistently use it to hold the bike up when I get on? The (lack of) strength of the kickstand and its hardware has been discussed ad nauseam. Go to the main BB&D page and scroll down, you'll see a few threads. I can't speak to the strength of a properly designed stand, or the engineering that goes into them, but ask yourself this: Do you really want to trust your bike and body to a little piece of pot metal and a couple of bolts? I stand on the ground when I mount the bike (5'9", 30-inch inseam, FWIW). | ||

I weigh 180. I don't put any weight on the kickstand other than the bike itself. I don't even start the bike until I am either sitting on it, or if it's on the wheelstands. I used to warm the bike up on the sidestand until I found it laying on it's side one day. The pivot bolt had sheared off right at the shoulder. The flanges on the kickstand where the bolt goes through were bent all to hell. Glad it didn't happen on the road, and a spare pivot bolt is now always under my seat along with a set of shifter linkage parts.  | ||

As for mounting the bike, I've got into the habit of picking up my right leg, grasping it by the shin and getting it over the saddle with my right hand's assistance. I'm 6'1" and it's still tough to get a leg over! | ||

I keep my seatbag on the rear seat, and have a top case mount. I just swing a leg over. No big deal.  Of course, being 6'5" with a 36" inseam doesn't hurt. | ||

Have no problem mounting the old girl from the ground. I'm 6' with 34" inseam. I have all bags mounted 100% of the time. I got my recall for the stand and will be calling tomorrow to get it in. | ||

Well I sure can't mount my Uly from a standing position. I've got to get up on the left foot peg and swing my leg over. Got to dismount the same way. I'm 5'11" with a 30" inseam. Must be a lack of flexibility! Sure makes me a bit concerned every time a ride. David | ||

So... may 06 manufacture date... does this mean i have the 07 stand? Still looks a little flimsey. How do i tell? When i went to collect my bike last week the tech was showing me how you can pull the bikes front wheel off the ground balancing on the rear wheel & the sidestand!!! Im going put the f***ing thing down ive just spent my next 4 years pay on that! |
