I am getting some strange sounds from the primary. I have two Sportsters and I have not heard the same type of noise from them. I am getting a little clacking noise. I used my mechanics stethoscope on the cover bolts and I am not getting any out of the ordinary noise there. I just want to know if should pull the cover and check it or wait and see? |

There is a repair bulletin on that nut. |

But looking at the date of the bulletin it would seem the Uly's should have all been built after that? Mine makes noise sometimes when it's hot. But is quiet when it's cooler. |

Thanks, You are right! My Uly was manufactured in October 05 and the memo is dated September 16, 2005. Very cool! One less thing to worry about. I am a little gun shy about he Uly. I would jump on my XL and ride it to the end of the Earth w/o a worry. |

Most of the loose nuts around here are very loud. Sorry couldn't resist. |

I called Buell Customer Service this morning. I was told that this updated torque was a tech tip and not a service bulletin. That is, if you are servicing the crank nut, the updated torque spec should be used. So, unless the nut is loose and causing a noise. Buell/H-D is not obligated to open the case to check and re-torque the nut. |

I took my Uly in today for a check up/service. It developed a loud noise yesterday that sounds like it's coming from the primary, rayS (fellow badweb poster from Melbourne Victoria) happened to be at Harley Heaven and heard it as well, sounds awful! |

My 06 XB12Ss developed a "rattle" at idle at around 1,700 miles. I didn't notice it at first but when I heard my friends XB12S run, I figured something was loose. I took it to Liberty Buell/HD and they fixed it in a day. The front primary sprocket nut had come loose. Liberty has seen 4 of them and Daves has seen several as well. Not a big deal to fix, but don't let it go. |

Those that are reporting a loose crank nut, please include the bike's build date in the post too. Month/Year |
