Welcome to the "family" Pipefitter. I'm on my third Buell, and have had a few problems with them. Did I ever regret owning a Buell? NEVER! I would use an expletive or two while working on them due to accessibility (or lack of)on some parts. That's all forgotten when you're out riding with that smile on your face. Congrats on your purchase and enjoy the ride!! |

actually rocketman, they DID say as much, but not to me. 1st off, I approached 3 different salesmen for help, and they never got back to me ( changed customers twice that I counted, but never to me) Second: unfortunately for the sales jerk involved, the person he decided to beak off to is the manager of the local safety council motorcycle training group, and a good friend of mine....so yes, I have all of it as it came right from the horses a$$, err, mouth. as for the kids - I'm a single parent. I'll keep it polite and NOT tell you what you can do with your opinion of hauling the kids around, except to say its not exactly an uncommon scenario in our day and age, and point out that we were checking out the kids bikes while we were there, too. anyone who'll rule out service or sales help due to my bringing the kids along is in line to lose my business, the kids business, and business from all of the their friends, and families....isnt it funny how what goes around comes around. |

Hey dude, I've got one of each too and I love the fact you took your kids to a motorcycle shop. I find it hard to get mine through the door. "Awe Dad. Not again. You're always going into bike shops. Can't we go somewhere else?" Put simply some sales people might not read you're out to spend money on a new motorcycle when you have kids in tow. Especially young ones. Perhaps more so if the shop is busy with other customers. Buying a motorcycle takes time and concentration, and young kids get bored quickly whilst you're sat at a desk. But come on dude. If you really wanted that 18k KTM, wild horses wouldn't have stopped you. Never mind three salesmen. That was my point. Rocket |

Rocketman - actually, I'm pretty open minded. I hadnt made up my mind about any bike when I went in, and if I'd really wanted the KTM I would have gone to another dealer. The DEALERSHIP however, nixed themselves right off my list, based on their own behavior. ( I've since learned that the motorcycle training council has also had issues...so its not just me, either) The point was for skypehphilis that ALL brands are afflicted with at least a few lousy dealers: based on his last post, I think we're all pretty much on the same page now. FWIW, I still think the KTM's are decent bikes....but not for someone who's 5'4", and wants to do adventure touring on mixed roads. |

My mother had a brand new Toyota Camry with about 1500 miles on it that needed all of it's fuel injectors replaced. I practically get my food thrown at me, with hardly a glance, at McDonalds. I had a Jeep dealer try to sell me a new engine for a $35 carbon knock. I am an electrical contractor and I know how hard it is getting qualified employees. The point is, *hit happens. I don't think Buell's are any more troublesome than any other manufacturer. My local Jap bike dealer, which happens to service my XB, has loads of Yams, Honda's, Zuk's in the repair shop. |

Absolutely valid points. You can wind up with bad service anywhere. However, for the vast majority of folks, there is one Buell dealer within reasonable distance. If you were to have a problem with a Honda, Suzuki, etc., chances are you've probably got several dealers within reasonable distance. You mention taking your bike to the local Jap dealer for service. I'm sure a lot of other folks do the same if possible. However, most of them won't be able to do anything involving the computer system, injection system, etc. due to specialized equipment. |

Well we have a XB12S and a Uly in our family. We suffer taking them to our local HD Dealer for warranty, only because we hate the bikes being out of our sight. To be honest, we are paranoid about what they doing to them and cant wait to pick them up. Probably for that reason we are over critical, and you always seem to notice something has changed when they come back. I guess to them it's just another bike they have to work on, where as it's a labor of love to us and when we service our bikes every nut, screw, bolt etc is treated as such. Our bikes have their funny little quirks, like noises that come and go, but hey adds character and boy do Buells have that! By the way our friends seem to have more trouble with their bikes, while our Buells just keep humming. Love My Buells!!!!!!!! |

Thanks for the additional info Chris. As a motor trader, I've had a shit past couple of weeks with unreasonable customers. Some still owe me money! So, very recently I'm quick to defend 'my' side of the fence. I hope my comments were not seen as personal wrt your kids, and your \ their shopping experience. Rocket |

For someone that has the time, and enjoys touching their bike and doing all the routine stuff for themselves, a carburated tuber has to be the perfect Buell. If Buell wants to have even a remote chance of selling me a Buell with electronic fuel injection on it they will have to add a reset button to the ECM so I can push it myself any time I want. Jack |

Tonite I traded bikes with a local kid. He has a pretty worked Kawasaki and I have my Custom CityX. He had a huge Ear to Ear grin when he parked my bike and took off his helmet. He sounded like Erik in the videos when he described how the bike rode. It was pretty cool. |

Hey Sky, did not mention any brand just the fact that we do not seem to have the troubles that some of our friends have. Some may call us lucky, we just think Buells are great and easy to maintain. Just like Jack, we also have the time and enjoy doing all the routine stuff. Opto has fitted his own fuel injection (Megasquirt) to my bike, so we do not need TPS or AFV resets anymore. Once Uly is set up with megasuirt, as I said earlier Warranty is all we will need to take our bikes to the dealer for. Take Care Be Safe and Stay Upright! |
