Dismal swamp....NOOOO....not quite.

If you go to mapquest and punch in my address, 111 north cove rd 23188, zoom out 2 clicks, and scroll around(NW mostly), you can sort of see some of the streams/creeks/ponds that run all through this area. Just for reference, by road, It's 3 miles from my "star" to the interstate (64).

Not really a lot to get excited about, and tresspassing is not the best idea around here.

I would like to offer ya'll a place to stay if you come down. I live with my folks, which is no problem at all. We drink beer and carry on all the time. But, my little sis is getting married on April 29 so about 2 weeks on either side of that is a "bad time". Any other time is usually good.

Let me know!

Jackie, this means war. I wouldn't support my brothers owning a motorcycle down there. I would be happy to foreward any references you may need for the sale of your "pocket bike." I have been working so much without the chance to ride and get my kinks worked out. I am finishing up my commuter bicycle so I can battle the gas wars in my own way. Once the weather clears I'll stop by practice to check on your progress. Are will still gonna turkey hunt or will you be posting that stuff up for sale too.LOL NUTS

Nuts,
I am almost done with my refinishing project on the ole' Mossberg. I went with a lightly textured flat black and it turned out quite nicely thus far. I just need to seal the deal with 3 or 4 coats of matte clear to add a bit of protection.
You can bet your Nuts (pun intended) that I'll be out there on opening morning as well as most of the following mornings until I get my bird. The thing that really sucks is you will be working during the week when all is quite at the club.
I think we need to give strong consideration to hitting that cutover up on Wildlife Rd. and just keep walking until we strike up a gobble.

Jackie, I made a call in your favor today regarding the possible purchase of your bike. Hopefully this will get the word out locally without you having to advertise in the paper. I am supposed to hear back later. It seems there a re a few fellas in the area that are specifically looking for a used firebolt. This way if my riding buddy has thrown in the towel his bike will still be on the roads; trying to keep up with the lightning.
When is opening day? I will make plans to be there. We need a day to go shooting soon as well. Are you interested in a brand new black powder rifle? I'll cut you an excellent deal, that way I can get my varminter sooner.
So are you replacing the bolt? Riding season is about to be upon us and there will be no riding for you it seems. Or are you eyeballing Ducati's? NUTS

Nuts,
I am definately interested in the front loader. Let me know what you are asking and we will try to work something out.
I have all intentions of replacing the Bolt with a XR650L. May not be as fast but we can still cruise around together. Nothing is set in stone yet though so don't get too upset about not having a riding partner this season.
My buddy got out of the slammer yesterday and stopped by for a nice visit. He hadn't seen the bike yet and said it was AWESOME. Makes me rethink what I am doing LOL!

Keith,
Where do you go shooting at? Maybe you, me and Jason can hook up and do some plinking together.

Jackie, I am a big fan of you adding an XR to the fold. I know a likely home for it when your interest wanes.
I would like to get $150 for the front loader. I paid $180 with the starter kit and would let all of that go to you. I just can't afford to scope it and use it for a month each year. I'm giving greater thought to a wheel gun/six shooter. I'd like to have one in .357 or .44 though. Maybe I'll be packing one for the cc class in Salem? NUTS

You know Nuts, we are two peas in a pod! Our interests can change in the blink of an eye. Now I see you are contemplating a wheel gun after all that lusting over a Sig semi auto. What is going on with you?
We had better get to the range before you completely lose your desires for all things shooting and hunting.
I haven't heard anything from the local guys and my ad hasn't generated any interest on Badweb so it looks as though I may be keeping the Bolt. Not so bad when I really think about it. I'm sure my love for it will quickly return when riding season is fully upon us and we can get out more.
Finished my stock today and it looks pretty durn good. A few areas didn't turn out quite as nice as I would have liked but definitely an improvement. Just gotta let it cure a few days and then put it back together.
The Ruger turned out so nice when I polished everything that I got offered a nice chunk of money for it and in turn sold it. Maybe I should buy several Walmart special and make a business out of it LOL!

Hey what's this gun selling stuff? I thought you were primarily a trader! It looks like Friday will be warm and clear. I will be off all day and looking to put some miles in or rounds through.
I got 17 miles in today before my hands turned into popcicles. You should have seen the disgusted looks on the faces of the uppity ups as I flew through Hunting Hills.
Did you sell the 10/22 locally or on the RC site? I'd like to see your finished product; although I'm sure you have plenty of pics.
I'll be in class until Wednesday and then working Thursday. Friday the roads will rise up to meet me and my Lightning. Talk to you soon. NUTS

Sold it to a fella up at the club. The sad thing is I was shooting it and the Cooper and he was more impressed with the cheap ole' Ruger than the Cooper. I told you man, the bling bling factor really counts for alot sometimes. That thing was so shiny it would start a fire from the suns' reflection. I never even thought how it would ruin it for hunting because of the reflectiveness.
I bolted the Mossberg back together. It looks pretty good but I need to knock the shine off with some light steel wool. I'm gonna give it a few more days to cure and then hopefully finish her up.
The girls are on Spring Break so maybe I'll get a ride in with you on Friday before ball practice if you promise to follow me back to the field. I don't want the parents to think I have gone middle aged crazy and if they see there are two of us dressed like that they will know I'm not insane.
As far as trading goes, well I do enjoy a good trade but when the dude offered me almost twice as much as I had in it I just couldn't say no. Not to worry though I blew it on upgrading to the top o' the line model remote controlled caller (thats right I traded the other one in).

Those golfers will really have something to complain about when I roll through the 18th green on my future Supermotard.

I too have been thinking about upgrading my Ruger in the off season. New stock, scope, heavy fluted barrel...but then again the money tree out back isn't showing too many blooms this year either. Keep in touch so we can organize plans for this week. The wife will be in Florida until next Tuesday, so NUTS will be able to play.

Nuts,
I just got done watching The 13th Warrior. I now think we ought to sell the bikes and guns and get war horses. We can take whats left of the money and have us some nice armor made along with a few good swords. When it gets warmer we can ride into battle and take over our own small country. Maybe we can start with Canada since it doesn't require extended sea travel?
Just remember since it was my idea and I am older I get to be the king. Jackson The Great, kinda just rolls off the tongue doesn't it?

How bouts I get over there around 11:00 on Friday, go get the tire changed and then ride until ball practice? Figure we can have the tire changed and back on by 1:00 which gives us a 4 hour ride opportunity.
Sound like a winner?
I can take you on some of the Franklin Co. backroads I told you about if you want a change of scenery.

Angry parents today man! Had them little girls out in the driving rain for about 30 minutes letting each one take a turn at bat. Just waiting for the call from the A.D. saying I'm fired LOL!
Looks like a good chance for rain on Friday so we may be screwed. If it does rain perhaps we can at least go sit under the 100 meter shelter and pluck off some Starlings. I MIGHT even let you squeeze off a few on the new .40 cal if you think you can handle the recoil.

Jackie, I put 100 miles on the Lightning today and all i can say is it was odd. Dunno why just didn't feel right, I'll reset the suspension and check pressures tomorrow a.m. I've been getting a hankering for a Mach2. I just want to show you what one will do in the hands of a competent shooter. I think I am NUTS, but that has already been established. If the weather holds we can ride and if not let's hit the range or go gun browsing. Anything but daytime T.V. NUTS

I took the wife on a 55 mile jaunt today. She had a blast although when we hit the triple digits she bout' killed me by squeezing so hard.
I'll check the weather LATE tonight and if all looks well I'll call you about 1:00. Ain't gonna get to the tire tomorrow but should be o.k. since the roads I am going to show you are mostly moderate speed propositions.
I took the fairing off this evening and took that stupid reflector out of the low beam. Man what an improvement. That has to be one of the dumber ideas that the designers at Buell had.
See ya tomorrow for a ride or Starling shootin'.

Jackie, thanks for the tour of Franklin County. I decided to tear the bike down this evening so I could remove the TFI. I also pulled the plugs while I was there and will probably change the oil and air filter. I thought all this maintenance would be necessary as my riding has been a little "off". I thought it might be advisable to take a short break and if the bike was in running shape that might compell me to ride before I am ready. While I was elbow deep in the Lightning work called and asked if I could cover a shift from 11p-7a TONIGHT! Sheesh, these guys really expect a lot of me. But I'll be well rested for our fishin trip on Sunday. I'm going to have to order some stuff from Al at American Sport Bike so I'll get the skinny from you on Sunday. Hope you enjoyed the ride as much as I did, especially the part when those deer tried to hurdle the car right in front of us. That was great, I wish that would happen every time.. I told my Dad and all he was concerned with was whether I went back in the truck to harvest the meat! I'm already habitually yawning and I'm not even on the clock yet. NUTS.
Oh yeah, right now I'm really digging that Kimber. I should have just bought yours. NUTS

Jason,
Have you ever in your life seen anything like what we witnessed today? I strongly believe that we were blessed not to have been hurt or killed in that mess. Just think about it. Out of 4 deer, 3 got killed, two seperate vehicles were involved, I was literaly sliding sideways and had cars coming up behind us.
I keep seeing that one deer in particular flying up over the truck as he struck it.
Did you see the car in the oncoming lane hit the other deer or was you passed it? That freakin' thing crumpled like a sack of wet taters' and the car headed straight for our lane.
The funny thing is as it was happening I wasn't scared at all and was just thinking "man that deer got hammered". The adrenaline and fear didn't set in until 15 minutes later. I was physically shaking for the first hour of ball practice. It was so noticeable I had people asking me what was wrong.
All I can say is
Thank the Lord brother, thank the Lord!!!!

Jackie, I have the vision of the deer that hit the left front side of the car IN FRONT OF ME tattooed on my brain. I saw red lights, heard a tire squeal at the same time the deer impacted the car. The deer then proceeded to fly 10 feet in the air while flailing wildly and came to a rest on the right shoulder of the road. All the while I was smoothly braking and "reacting" as I have trained myself to do. If your back tire was sliding we need to get you brushed up on proper braking technique. No offense intended: I know what can happen when the rear wheel starts to step out and it ain't pretty! We'll get it all sorted out.

I think we might be having a "Pulp Fiction" moment with regards to the deer/ bullet near miss! All I can say is "That is a tasty burger, Brad!"

You hurt my feeling. Now I have to add you to my list of Pecks (inside joke here fellas).
Seriously though, no offense taken Jewels.
There was a LOT of stuff going on at once! The first thing I saw is the guy in front of you slam the deer with the left front bumper and it flew in the air whilst kicking wildly. I seem to remember that the same truck whacked another one on the right hand side although from your recollection it sounds like it may have been the same one that flew up into the air. Then the oncoming car hammered the 3rd deer trying to cross the road. After hitting and killing it the car started into our lane.
I'll be the first to tell ya my mistake. I was following you too closely and had to compensate by locking the rear wheel instead of pulsing. In my haste to get to the field and beat the oncoming rain I broke the rules and almost paid dearly.
When the back end broke out from under me I let off the brakes and it straightened up. Unfortunately because I locked them again the same thing happened. I think the only thing that kept me from dumping it was being used to power sliding from my dirtbike riding days. I can assure you the days of chasing you wildly are over. It is much better to get wet or be late than to take the chance of that happening again.
Cast your lot where you like I still believe it was a miracle we weren't injured. A little higher and you would have been wearing that first deer LOL!!

I know we were traveling about 50-55 mph when it began. I also know that I braked and do not remember it being a significant episode. I have learned to not use the rear brake in an emergency because the two times I have I locked the rear easily. The first time I nearly rear-ended a truck and the last time I slid halfway through the intersection! Some may say that both brakes are needed for optimum stopping and I theoretically agree; but yesterday's drama has me feeling pretty confident in my front brake only approach. This being said if that deer would have waited half a second longer or we would have passed just one more car earlier or I didn't blow past you at 110mph or... Things could have been a LOT different.

I put the bike back together today and might put a shakedown ride in tomorrow morning. The plugs looked good and don't have to be replaced for another 2300 miles. Hopefully that will be in May sometime. No TFI, stock air filter and re-set suspension, I think I'm ready to roll now. We have to set up the ride for our Sunday Buell group, I've got some ideas but would like your input, so get cracking! Got my license today and will be ready to fish tomorrow. I just have to go and pick out a winner of a fishin pole.

I searched in vain last night for a Kimber HMR. Apparently they only make the MachII. Of course I want the one with the Black receiver and barrel/ Do you think I could have Kimber install a .17 barrel on the rifle at RF? The gears are turning now. NUTS

"I also know that I braked and do not remember it being a significant episode".

Uhhh o.k.? I guess you are the man. I for one had to change my trousers when I got home. 3 large animals killed right in front of us and cars sliding beside and behind us. I guess they raise ya'll hard down Florida ways. Course' they say I am a bit thin skinned.

I went to set the traps out and there were no minnows in the pools. If the bait store is open tomorrow we can just buy some. If not I guess it will have to be another day.

Kimber doesn't make a .17HMR. If you buy the one out at Roanoke Firearms and send it back they will rebarrel it but #1 the receiver will still say .22LR #2 it will cost as much as a new Classic Varmint by the time you are done.

I spent the afternoon diassembling, washing and scrubbing the Bolt'. Tomorrow if we don't go fishing I will probably break out the cleaner and polish and go over the plastics thoroughly. I may even break out the dremmel and polish the wheels up to their full potential before I put it in the paper. I don't imagine there is much of a market locally but who knows?
