ALL MAJOR MASS PRODUCED VEHICLES WILL HAVE A LEMON IN THE BATCH. Its just the way it is. If that sours you on the brand oh well. It sucks big time that you got a lemon, but you have to do something about it. Crying on a forum isn't going to help. Asking advice maybe. If you don't have time to make a call or deal get a lawyer it must not be that important to you. If I had a 12k investment go bad I would take a sick day or two and deal with the problem. I am not saying Buells are the best bike ever built and nothing can/will ever go wrong with them. That is just stupidity, if anyone thinks that they are in for a reality check. I have worked on GMs, Saabs, and Mercedes Benz and they all have there lemons, do something about it or shut up. Sorry to come off like a jerk, but come on. all im asking is for some advice, and also asking if anyone has ever been in the same situation as me. nothing more, and nothing less. anyone taking it further than that is not what im asking. its one of the biggest problems of the internet, some people read the words and think its being said one way, and in all reality its being said in a totally different way. |

DJ I know that I was teasing you but the whole thing seems a bit crazy. There cannot be much wrong with the bike. Sounds like a problem that any good tech with a test light and an ohm meter could fix in a short time. If the bike has good compression and is in time it would seem the problem would have to be in the fuel injection or wiring. There is just not that much to a motorcycle. I work at a Chevy dealership and it does not take long to find what is causing the problem. Plug the Tech 2 up and it will start showing codes and what the codes mean. Motorcycles should be no different. Sounds to me like the dealership you are using does not know how to solve the problem or just does not want to mess with it. |

You you needed help/well i know i would definetly start letting people on here know what it is that is wrong and go from there. Is the bike still under warranty? If not you sound like you know how to do some mechanics. There is a s--t load of info on here and if it isnt I bet someone here will try to help you. I would take this whole mess whatever it is and break it up into smaller manageable repairs one at a time. Mountain is 100% right. If ya got compression and good timing everything else shouldnt be too impossible. Im sure people on here will help you do the repairs if you describe them. Just trying to help you out. |

Dj I have some gremlins in my 9s too but I am going to find them if it kills me this winter. I work a lot of hours too. when I get home and want to ride, and the bike runs kinda crapy it makes me mad too. But I will fix it and move on, sounds like you need a good tech to do a good once over on the bike. good luck |

I have had my new 03' XB9S for about 2 months and have 1700 mi on it. The bike rides/runs great but I got poked by the dealer when I bought it. The bike was a demo which I wasn't told prior to purchase and couldn't see the scratches in the body parts until ( I ) washed it at home. Then the service techs did burnouts on my bike when I got the first service done. I called Buell C/S and wrote them a letter like they told me to. I was informed by Michelle at Buell that this was a dealer issue and that the district Buell rep was contacting the dealership to take action. After 20 phone calls and 4 weeks still not a word from Buell or the dealership. So I can see some people having less than great C/S experiences. I really like the bike though...it's a blast, no pun intended. I just wish Buell had a 1-800 C/S line cuz this calling thing is starting to pinch a bit |

I recommend making time on a break or at lunch to call Buell if you can't get off of work early enough to make the call after work. Make time. |

How exactly does it run like crap? Maybe I missed something but I didn't read any details of the problem. If you tell us specifically what's wrong - maybe we can help you. |

Second that, I still can't figured out what "run like crap" means from the posts. DJ, help us out a bit here, how does it runs exactly? |

There but for the grace of God go I. A little sentence but I think a good one. Perhaps if we applied a considerable amount of understanding and put our collective common interest of Buell motorcycles together we could HELP our Buell brother through his crisis instead of hitting him with cheap shots via an anonymous medium. |

"some people read the words and think its being said one way, and in all reality its being said in a totally different way." How exactly should we interpret a statement, the title of the thread even, that reads "What do u do when your xb turns out to be a lemon?" If your XB is a lemon, then by definition, it is beyond fixing, a chronically problematic machine. So then the answer would be to part it out and try to make some of your money back. If however you are merely having some touble getting it to run optimally, then purchase a service manual and go through the troubleshooting and diagnosis routines, and/or provide a comprehensive detailed accounting of the problem(s) you are seeking to diagnose, or find a shop with a highly recommended, competent mechanic/technician and let him/her do it for you. But didn't you near total the thing, damaging it severly in a crash? And you did the repairs yourself, right? Left side case was smashed up so badly the clutch basket was deformed right? I'm thinking that you should have let the pros put her back together. Maybe read through your prior posts, see what kind of impression you think they give as a whole. So far you've posted the following threads concerning problems with your bike... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/67465.html http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/68137.html http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/73577.html quote:Posted on Friday, September 03, 2004 - 07:12 pm by Dj_rider: <---squid...hurts...pain...i rolled 100 yards...in shorts and t shirt...big ••• rock in the middle of the road was the culprit...gosh darn it, side case cracked..handle bar left side balled up, basically the whole left side is trashed this is just great considering i have to be at werk in an hour:@

Frankly I think you trashed your bike. You said the crash broke the cases! And now you are dealing with related ensuing problems. Big surprise? So either lose the attitude, or take a hike. |

I did the same search as Blake while trying to find the problem. I'm still willing to try and help, if Dj will post a good and detailed description of the problem, with a good and detailed list of what has been done by himself, the dealer, and anyone else that's tried to fix the problem, along with any other relevant information. We're here to help if we can, we're not however a dumping ground for belly-aching, that gets old fast as you can see/read. |

Buells are relatively simple machines. As someone said it is fixable. Right tech, right tools can fix anything. Intermitant problems are a different story. |

thanks for that search-work, Blake. hmm, just what i suspected... that wreck wasn't so 'clean' after all. sounds like you need to man-up and start thinking/learning about how to repair your wrecked bike, or pay to have it done. the brand, your dealer and certainly Buell CS are not to blame here. now I understand why you don't have time to call, its not work schedule, its 'cause you already know how the conversation will go. so how 'bout it? can you come clean and list the true history as Glitch has asked? i think thats the only way you're going to be able to acquire some of the help you're looking for. |

Has any one ever considered the fact that the newer XB12 series models introduced in 2004 are less reliable than the XB9 series? More performance usually means less reliability in most cases. As great a car as the previous generation Nissan 300Z was, it became more of a mechanical liability when they introduced the more powerful twin turbo version. I read far fewer posts on this site of problems with the less powerful XB9. What do you guys think? |

No way Snackbar! According to the logic of this thread... My 03 XB9S WAS A LEMON! It spent way more time in the shop than on the road. I did'nt see it for two months after I t-boned that Mustang. Then a few weeks after I got it back some WOP layed it down. This bike was such a lemon that the insurance company decided to purchase it from me! Even though Buells obviously suck because they get crashed all the time I decided to try a 12. So far so good. THE XB's ARE EXTREMELY RELIABLE, HOWEVER ALL RIDERS ARE NOT! |

I don't think the 12 is any less reliable. It has a longer stroke, so that means it has different con rods. Along with the longer stroke comes increased piston speed at a given RPM which is why the 12 doesn't rev as high as the 9. If it did, I'd say it would be less reliable, but Buell was smart enough to take the redline down a notch. |

That's the weirdest thing. A site dedicated to bashing and whining about Buell quality and reliability (mostly emotional hyperbole) and it is SPONSORED by a BUELL DEALER (sycamore buell). Ummm.... somebody not very smart. |

Um; my first Buell was a '98 S3-T. I put 60,000 miles on it in two years. Then I got a 2000 M2. I still have it, but it's only got 55,000 miles on it. (I got married, and with a family, I don't have as much time to ride) My wife bought a 2001 Blast in November, 2000 (rode it home in 23 degree F weather)and put 10,000 miles on it. In Dec 2004, she got a 2003 Blast and put 5,000 miles on it. Two weeks ago I just bought a new '06 XB12X. If Buell would just offer hard bags for the Lightning Long, my wife would probably buy one. Yep, them Buells sure must be lemons! |
