An acquaintance is asking if he'll have to pay over MSRP for a Uly. Any comments? I did direct him to this board, but he hasn't got it figured out yet... |

I've got a buyers order from Ocala HD for $9995 for my Uly. Waiting for it to arrive. My local dealers both wanted full MSRP, but no other markups other than "dealer prep and doc fees". |

I got mine at Redline Harley-Davidson Buell in Saskatoon. I didn't pay MSRP. Got it about 1800.00 under list. They have one there right now Number 488 if I am not mistaken. |

I spoke with several dealers in CA before buying my Uly. All were MSRP + freight + shipping. They all told me that had received tremendous interest in the bike via walk-ins, telephone and email and as such weren't dealing on them. In other parts of the country the Uly may be less popular and one may be able to negotiate. I got on a waiting list for mine. Come to think of it I was on 2 waiting lists. Got mine for MSRP, which included Frt & set-up. Then received a 10% discount on the hard bags. |

MSRP here. Rather pricey freight and set-up. $700 off the hard bags retail price due to some kind of Harley "chrome-coming" event. |

The stealers in my area around D.C. & VA all say they sell for MSRP... then tack on the setup and delivery charges which have ranged from 550 to 800. Is this normal for HD/Buell? Is it because it's new and it will go down in a while? How should I respond to such a dealer offer? How best to negotiate the HD/Buell way? Should I go with the price and ask for some "free" stuff? This quote is from Buell's web site: (1) Prices listed are Manufacturers Suggested Retail Prices for sale in the United States of America. Prices exclude set-up, title, and licensing and are subject to change. Dealer prices may vary. Additional California fees required. See your dealer for details. I don't recall any additional CA fees, but I did have to pay freight. Is freight supposed to be included? Every CA dealer I spoke with added Freight and Setup to the MSRP. I spoke with several.} Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara |

The factory does charge extra for freight. We sell the bikes at MSRP, no freight charges, no setup charges. I have 3 in stock right now.(2 Black, 1 Barrier Orange) To steal DAVES line, "Could I interest you in a trip to Atlanta?" |

Is freight supposed to be included? Jim, Buell can't tell the dealers what to charge (legal reasons). Buell can only suggest. So your question doesn't really have an answer. But riding a new bike from Georgia to California might be fun! |

Okay, so the factory charges the Dealership for Invoice + Freight, and the dealer has to uncrate and prep the bike, and they try to charge as much for that as they can to cover their costs and maintain their full profit margin. I think I paid roughly $450 total for freight and setup. Atlanta, eh? A long way off! I couldn't miss that much work, cheaper to just pay the going rate in CA. Plus we have to deal with CA emissions, which if anything are tougher than GA. Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara |

Wow, Electraglider, now that's a deal I'd travel for. Where and what dealer gave you that deal? Clown, any chance I could get a "written quote"? |

Riderdavid, They ordered two Uly's and I've spoken for the Black one. Talk to Dan McGaughey in Sales at Dillon Brothers Harley Davidson of Omaha, NE. Phone # 402-289-5556. Whether he can give you the same deal as he did for me, I don't know. I had to put 500 down but he assured me that I can back out and get my 500 back. I didn't go in the dealership with the purpose of buying, it just sort of happened. I told Dan (who I then just met) that I really like the new Ulysses and he said that he had a Black and an Orange one ordered and had already had 3 in and sold them. He asked me what it would take to sell one to me and I said an out-the-door price of 11500 with the bags and tourpak included. He checked his computer for just a couple of seconds and said he could do that and he'd need 500 down. I looked at my wife and I couldn't believe it, she said, "put it on the Harley card". My 13 year old's eyes became the size of saucers. Anyway, I went back the next weekend to make sure that out-the-door meant that I'd only have to write them an $11,000 check when it came in since they already had 500. Dan said that was right, no doc fees, no shipping fee, nothing else. Good luck if you decide to call them. The Orange one was still available when I last talked to Dan. |

Hi to all, my first post here(I think) and it's a long one so I appoligize up front. I picked up my XB12X in Jacksonville FL for $11495.00, the dealer did try to mark it up $500 though. He didn't seem to like being laughed at very much. Go figure? If I'd waited maybe I'd have gotten a better price but this is the first American made MC that that I'll ride and that fits me. What can I say; I had to have that puppy.......But not over MSRP. LOL. After waffling with the sales Mgr. for a while and almost walking out, the general Mgr. came out and asked if they gave me MSRP with no assembly BS charges would I take it? After that, and $500 off of the bags, I said OK! As a side note; I went through Daytona on Oct 4th and stopped by the big new dealership there which had 3 Ulysses on the floor; one in a nice display down stairs and two with the other Buells upstairs. When I came back through on the 9th there were only two left. While I was there I overheard a sales "person" rambling to a potential 12x buyer about silly stuff and took the opportunity to interject. The customer and I talked about the Ulysses for about 10 minutes with the sales person just standing there giving an occasional grunt. I also mentioned that I got mine in Jacksonville without the aforementioned BS added. The sales person got all big eyed at that and babbled about them not being able to do that. About that time the guy’s buddies came and dragged him off to go eat hot wings and look at hooters or something. Who knows, maybe he'll buy one. The offshoot of all this is that I got offered a job as a sales guy for their Buell line! LOL For you guys who've read some of my inane questions on Sport Twin, that lets you know how shallow their Buell knowledge must really be. But hey, they have the bikes. No Buell clothing though.....Hmmmm. When I asked the bubble-head at the counter about Buell clothing I got the "We don't sell enough of it, so we don't carry it." response. At that point I knew that my Kung Foo-like logic was a useless weapon in the land of the assless chaps. I’m new to the whole Buell thing but I have noticed a distinct lack of motivation from some of the dealers who do carry Buells and down right disdain from those who don’t. If I were HD corporate I’d have a few things to say about that. Oh well that’s my 75 cents, on to new adventures. Steve |
