I can see the space shuttle take off from here. I watched the Challenger explode. You can definitely hear the return from here. It's the only good thing about living in the flatlands.

Gotta stir up some shite here, but just got back from 5 days in LA and finally got to see lane splitting in person.....

You guys are freaking nuts!!!!

I was totally caught by surprise 5 times by bikes flying past my rental cage, saw thses guys after they cruised past, swerving all over.
I guess you do what ya have to there, I ride in Seattle no comp. on traffic, but I pride myself on looking out for bikes while in cars and I saw zippo coming up on me.
do you get used to it? how does that work?

Pammy, that's very cool. would like to come visit some time.

i don't think Odinbueller will mind me helping him promote this:

"Just wanted to extend an invitation to all Buellers out there to attend in the festivities of our 7th Anniversary Open House on September 24th. We are fortunate enough to have Erik & The Thunderbolts playing a few sets for us! Not only will Erik Buell and his band be on hand, we'll have food, sales throughout the store, and a great time all around.

Hope to see everyone there!"

this is at Liberty Buell, Rahway, NJ

Odin's post in Storm Fronts is HERE.

F1Johny....No F1..,you really don't fully feel comfy with it.Out of all riding, lanesplitting takes more concentration than racing, perhaps you only witnessed the SQUIDS doing it.The law says you can't go more than 5 miles an hour faster than surrounding cars and you can't cross diamond lane stripes however lesser knowledgable folks do it all the time.Basically if you crash they hold you responsible,or at least DON'T blame other driver!EXTREME CONCENTRATION REQUIRED!!!(as Code would say.."You gotta use all $10.00!"

Ebear,
Thx, that helps! I saw a guy flying on the shoulder diamond striped lane, had to be doing 90 while were were going 40. He had the squid tat I am sure. And a couple were going only 5-10 over, and I have raced and agree that attention would have to be extreme. It would feel strange to do it I am sure.
Hang in there!

Pammy; don't forget about Central Park:

http://www.centralpark.com/

There's likely to be concerts at the Band Shell. West of the Band Shell you'll find bladers/skaters dancing on good weather weekends. There's often performers by the Boat Lake, especially on the west "coast". Don't know if the Boat House restaurant is any good, but it could be a cool place to eat.

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you a good friend of ours has gone down...

One of our BAS members found this information on the accident. Our thoughts are with his family.

SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS MOTORCYCLE CRASH VICTIM IDENTIFIED
08/10/05 8:25 PDT

A motorcyclist killed in a crash Tuesday afternoon in the Santa Cruz Mountains has been identified as 48-year-old Gordon Buhle of Boulder Creek Santa Cruz County Deputy Coroner Steve Paskett said today.

The crash occurred around 2:40 p.m. when Buhle, driving a 2003 Buell XB9 motorcycle west on Bear Creek Road just east of Deer Creek Road apparently crossed over the double yellow line into oncoming traffic.

Buhle and the motorcycle slammed into an eastbound Isuzu box van, resulting in fatal injuries to Buhle, the CHP reported.

A separate collision occurred when the driver of a third vehicle applied an emergency brake after witnessing the fatal crash and was rear-ended by two other vehicles. No injuries were reported in that crash.

Safe ride,

Gary in Oakland

I was in the presence of the Ulysses last night. I sat on it(can't even come close to touching the ground.)and poked around on it. I think the bike, from appearances and from what I have read from people I trust is going to be a real asset to Buell(and anyone that owns one). I think it looks good in orange but those who know me understand my ostentatious nature. Not to mention, I can't imagine the bike not being safer in traffic for a few different reasons:The riders line of sight. The cagers ability to see the rider from stature and color of the bike. Overall, I can only say...I wish I were taller and lived in Ga.

how tall are you pammy? more importantly, what is your inseam?

sounding like i'll need to order the low seat. My inseam is about 31", I'm 5'10"

Branebanger,
Note that Al Lighton says he's got only a 30" inseam, but he's riding his Uly with the regular seat with no problems. OTOH Reg said he also has a 30" inseam, but he'd narrow the low seat further if he bought a Uly.

Maybe Al's got bigger feet so it's easier to touch his toes down?

I am about 5'6". my inseam would probably be about 29". I have thicker thighs though and that takes up quite a bit of length when trying to reach the ground. And
I saw a lot of guys that weren't a lot taller than me sit on it and touch their toes. A more narrow seat along with the seat being a bit lower would be the ticket.

It is hard to write anything after reading of the passing of Gordon. It somehow seems so mundane in comparison.

On the height issue, I do have a 30 inch inseam, and size 11 shoes. With the bike vertical, it is tippy toes on both sides. For 95% of the time, it just isn't a big deal to me, I'm used to tall dirt bikes, this just feels like that, no biggie.

There is, however, one place that it does have major impact. Backing up is very difficult. I can't get enough push from either foot to get much bike movement, so it becomes slow going to do it while straddling the bike. But I can't do it at all on my dirt bike, so I just hop off and do it from the side. Now, at 5-11, that makes it pretty easy. But if one was shorter, even that might be a bit more of a challenge. I would still welcome a shorter seat, but I could live with the stock one.

My bike is going to Corbin for a couple weeks in September so that we can get the Corbin seat out early on the Ulysses. I'm sure I'll have some input into the design, but they have their own way of doing things there. We'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

Al

didn't know him but my deepest sympathies to Gordon's friends and family, I can't begin to imagine what they are going through.

thank you for the height info, I'll try the stock seat first.
