Now that pic just cracks me up! Looks like Jerry is getting ready to pinch a major loaf! I have riden many miles with Jerry and have known the man almost 10 years now. There is not too many people I call a friend in this world but I can say that he is a great friend. He can ride, he can write (many published articals in Thunder Press and Battletwin), and he can take a great pic. Heck Jerry, I would even loan you my Canon 20D with all of my lenses and film cards for the 2 week ride. Someone please loan this man the keys to a XB12X so we all can enjoy the ride! |

It would be cool if while flying solo, newly formed squadrons of XB12X'ers ride shotgun with you for a few klicks through their airspace. Maybe that would help you get the Mother Ship's attention? Plus it would give them an excuse to conduct "business" in Southern California for a few days. We have ocean vistas, desert, and mountains all within a days shoot. A squadron flyby up Palomar Mountain in the San Diego region followed by offroading in Anza-Borrgo Park/Ocatillo Wells all in the same day would be a Bonanza XB12X story. Plus it would look terrific in Fuell or wherever. ReindogX (Message edited by reindog on July 27, 2005) |

Ferris, Cool idea. Perhaps a few calls to some of the moto magazines who may have one in their demo fleet or perhaps Buell PR would land you a bike. You know if I hadn't bought the 'Bolt earlier this year I'd have one on the way and it'd be all yours. Bravo for the idea, I guarantee it'd be a welcome addition to the Badweb tale section archives, as well as great press for XB12X, and Buell in general, when it'd be published in some moto magazine. You know I'm there for any support you'd need and will will ride along if you make it to this part of the country. Maybe you could even run her around the bases at Field of Dreams. Can't think of a better person to hop on a Ulysses and do what you're proposing. You're got great words, find the best places to see and have gotten a ton of us into Buelling and have helped a ton of us out. Good luck, can't wait to see the results if everything pans out! Let me know if you need anything! Prior (Message edited by awprior on July 27, 2005) |

GOOD GOD..!!!!Now THAT picture is just Scary!! OK..My 2 cents...This is truly a GRAND idea..and I believe anyone whom is aware of your gift of photojournalism would have to agree that YOU would be the best guy for this job!Now I'm not dissing Reg because he obviously is a most seasoned professional in this area however it would surprise me if he hasn't already asked or been asked.Though , as someone here has pointed out already,it would require 2 people at least to properly shoot this.(It would also be nice to shoot both colors since black is difficult to get lit well to show bodywork curves etc.)Therefore considering the fact that you do have an open schedule and all the abilities to do this VERY well,I am voting for you.NO,not just voting for you but LOOKING FORWARD to reading this piece and allowing it to sway me into buying this very model. I would even venture to suggest that if this happens, there is a road up Mt. Palomar that is dirt....so you could venture up one side in the gravel and down the other on the famous curves of Palomar and wouldn't THIS be a recognizable and worthy road for just this very idea!! Good luck Ferris and we'll ALL be awaiting your results! |

To the management of Buell Motor Co.. Sirs: Mr.Jerry Haughton should be given the use of a 2006 Ulysses "tester". You may also want to consider allowing him to test it long term and post his comments on various interest group web sites this will likely produce a great deal of additional interest in the new product offering. Mr, Haughton is well known and liked on the Bad Weather Bikers web site. In that he is also an experienced "adventure" rider his comments will likely be credible and well recieved, as a well known Buell enthusiast I am certain that it would have additional positive impact on sales of the new cycle. thank you for your time James Bryant, X1 owner and prospective customer good luck Ferris |

Er, the truth? The truth is that via telephone at 10AM PDT on Saturday morning I personally asked Jerry if he as a respected and lauded moto-journalist would be willing to conduct an impartial BadWeB test ride of the new XB12X, a bike that is very foreign in many respects to all of us. His obligation would be to report back on his findings/observations/revelations in his usual honest, objective and always highly engaging/entertaining way. He's also a fairly accomplished photographer. Of course all that was contingent on IF and only IF we could find a demo bike to support the effort. Pretty sure that any such consideration from the BMC folks is unlikely. They have the good reporting from Cycle World. Pretty sure that reaches a few more hundred thousand folk than does BadWeB.
Hey folks, if this happens, I'd really like it to remain a BadWeB specific effort. The guys and gals at advrider are more than welcome to read Jerry's report here. One thing... I'd like for the bike to be already broken in before it gets thrashed to the bones for ten days by the burly man with the mustache. Admittedly I also have an ulterior agenda... shhhhhh. A good and valued friend has fallen to the dark side and is in need of rescue. I'm calling this idea... Ferris Bueller Rides Again! (Message edited by blake on July 27, 2005) |

So if someone volunteered to commit to buying the demo bike from the donating dealer before it even left the showroom, confident in the long term reliability and durability of the bike and Ferris' ability to return it relatively unscathed, would that be help? Might be awful good advertising for "perceived consumer confidence" or some such marketing speak for how far Buell has come in reliability and durability, no? No ulterior motive here, move along please Oh, and Go Ferris Go! |

Ferris, Excellent idea. You can tell whoever that "loans" you the bike that I would like to have that bike in my collection. My guess is that there would be lively bidding for such a piece of history. Paul |

kids should not be allowed to play with Photoshop. Dave, not necessarily. depends on where the ultimate purchaser lives. if he/she currently lives in Cali, yes, would have to be a Cali bike, UNLESS the bike had at least 7501 miles on it at the time of purchase by the Cali resident. don't quote me on any of this -- the California DMV has fooled me before... I have only one thing to say...2500 miles in ten days, what kind of wimpy arse schedule is that? If you want my approval you'd better get a little farther (further?) than 250 miles a day. Sounds like there might be a little too much koolaid (or is it screech?) going on. \clipart {biggrin3d} Rob |
