"NICE!" Ditto Jim

I noticed that while the pictures show Ferris did his good deed for the day and moved the fallen tree the snake went untouched. He'd have looked pretty cool nailed up next to the garage door of the T'dome... complete with a hair raising tale to go with the hide. : )

Very nice.
175 miles? Scouting a bit of whats to come or just a lark?

Blasting through the big open panoramas of AZ is one thing but when the countryside is so up close and personal it's a lot harder to go faster than a sedate sunday pace and take in the view.

Agreed, mr rattler would have looked good flattened out next to the "Door of Opportunities" at the Dome.
I always look for the broad head as often the rattles are missing!

Jim: thanks! : )

JB2: the rattler encounter was very cool, and i couldn't imagine doing anything other than watch and admire (from a distance). i left the bike in the road long enough for it to get safely across, then stood back and watched and admired the snake. the bank that you see in the last shot of that series is what the snake climbed after it cleared the pavement. i'd have bet money it couldn't make it, and it took it a good 20 minutes or more to do so. the only time it payed much attention to me was the shot with it using the purple-flowered plant for purchase. i got too close as far as the snake was concerned and it took up a defensive posture, but never a sound from its rattles. i, with uncharacteristic wisdom, apologized for my rude ways and backed off a few steps. like i said, a very special treat on the day, and i'd much rather look at its pix here on BADWEB than its skin on the garage wall. : )

Henrik: yes, i do. ; )

UBear: a rarity these days, but we ran outta work yesterday about 10. Denise said she wanted to putter around the house for the day and get some chores done, and wondered whether i might want to go riding for the rest of the day???

she was, as usual, quite absolutely correct.

this was only the second weekend this year that the Western Divide Highway has been open and it was cool, literally and figuratively, to finally get up there on two wheels again. bit of a bummer that Sherman Pass is still closed, but that locked gate pictured earlier is only 29.9 miles from the 'Dome, and it gives me a good excuse to head back up there real soon and see if i can make it clear to the top. : )

thanks for the feedback, guys, it's nice to know someone is lookin' at this stuff besides me.

Oh, and great pics...sorry I wasn't around for the fun. It would appear that snakes may be the order of the week. Stay tuned for some additions to the Mariposa thread.

Ferris it went something like this... only that I ran out of time and it was so boggled with incoherent thoughts and ramblings and since you didn't hang the photo right away I thought I'd vaporize it and rewrite it tonight. Sorry for the scare. : )

Anyways, Kim and I are married to this remodel project and the rest of our lives has taken a back seat to it. I had told you a while back I'd post a pic of the new scooter and just have never got it done. So we gets this fancy new 6.1 Kodak that takes killer pictures and since the bike was in the driveway making room for construction equipment I snapped a couple. The lie went on to say that when we downloaded the pics that lo and behold there were some familiar faces... ghost faces if you will, a real blood connection to Lake Isabella, CA!

Truth is Doug and I talked about this back a few weeks ago when he said he and Sandy would be here in the Hoosier state to visit their son and would we want to get together for an evening? At that time the remodel seemed to be in hand but if you've ever rebuilt a Jabsco pump on an old fishing boat(or read about one) you know that no project is ever how it seemed it would be and instead of having a evening to kill we felt pinched into making a choice between losing a night of construction or making new friends.

In Haughton fashion your brother jumped at the chance to make it happen anyway and even if it was just a "meet and greet" we'd do it. Just like you pushing the buttons on our trip last year.

Sooo... I mentioned to Doug that "Hey, don't breathe a word to Jerry and we'll surprise him in the aftermath." with the full intention of doing it in photos.

Well, last night came and went way too quickly. We(Doug and I) made it short as we both promised each other we would and two and a half hours later we(Kim and I) watched them pulling away wishing we had just taken the night off.

Last night I struggled with the photos(too huge to load) and finally got one sent to you instead in hopes the trick would still play well even if I had to have you hang the photo. Doug and I had a bet on who you'd call first, me or him, but my computer illiteracy foiled our plans.

Nevertheless, I replayed our brief evening together over and over in my mind and kicked myself for all the stories we started to tell each other but didn't get to finish. Kind of like your first encounter with Dave Barr.

Great couple, that brother of yours and his wife. We will repeat on down the road I assure you. BTW, he loved the truck and Sandy agreed with Kim saying we must be nuts, all three of them agreed that it's probably a good thing you and I DON'T live closer together. : )

So in the end I went into this with baited breath thinking from our few letters back and forth since you urging him to jump on the key-fob thing that there was pretty good chance we'd hit it off. Well, there were no disappointments my friend, only bittersweet partings. I think you can fill in the gaps from here except that "thanks" is an understatement but thanks anyway! thumbsup

I'd like to say that the receeding hairline exists as a direct result of excessive speed, but I'm afraid it was inherited. We had a great time with Jim (alias JB2) and Kim Bantz on our recent trip to Indiana. We were back visiting our oldest son and his family in West Lafayette where he attends Purdue. I'd have given 2 old spark plugs and a full tank of av-gas to see the look on my Brother's face when he opened the e-mail from JB2 with Sandy and I posing (make that drueling)next to Jim's new scoot. Took him by surprize methinks. Whaaaaaaaaa....Howdidyaaaaa....Whattheeee...?????....was probably the operative response.

Dr. Doug, hmmmmmmm, that moniker sounds mighty family-iar... : )

good to see you on here, bro, but the denizens of BADWEB will tell you that once you start hanging around this place, a new Buell in the hangar (you've got plenty of room to tuck it in next to the Bonanza) can't be far behind.

hey JB2, think we could talk Mrs. and Dr. Doug into attending BRATPAC next year??? : )

Ferris, I was thinking the very same thing since they are a lot like us BadWeBbers sans the motorcycle.

BTW, WTF is this www.fastferris.com thing you got goin' on anyway? You're gonna get yours up and running before mine, ain't ya?

Henrik, We NEED to talk! Soon!

Dr Doug, Kim and I had a great evening with you and Sandy only it was way too short. Having said that, Ferris and I left a lot of undiscovered country behind last year leaving us to say... "Oh well, seeds for the next trip, eh?" : )

FMJ, tentatively the plan is to meet in Franklin, NC on the evening of Monday, September 5th, 2006. The plan is to arrive as the last of the Labor Day and Summer vacation crowd is leaving for home. We're going to fill up a two week schedule of riding and plan on sewing up the last day of the adventure in Front Royal, VA on the 15th, 16th or 17th. We'll start a page very soon in Storm Fronts and develop the details there but I don't see the dates changing much. It is the prime two weeks for motorcycle adventures on the BRP, even with the hurricanes. : )

Jim; absolutely - lets talk. In my opinion, for most regular (i.e. non-corporate) web purposes, blogging is the way to go these days.

I gave Peter a little nudge in that direction, and he's built a very nice site for his Dakar effort:

http://www.pete2dakar.com

It works very nicely within a blog company "Square Space":

http://www.squarespace.com

They have one month free trial with all the available services. Take a look at their demo:

http://www.squarespace.com/features/?section=stepbystep

You can use their site templates to get your feet wet, and can then branch out in customizing the template with your own graphics. For just a few $$ more than the basic package you can use your own web address (like Peter is doing) to link to your Square Space Blog.

Between that and being able to link directly to and utilize Paypal from within your site, this becomes a very attractive package that liberates you from knowing much about web design - plus giving you access to making changes from any computer with an internet address. We'll talk.

Ooops - sorry for the thread hi-jack

As for BRATPAC II ... I'll do my darndest to be there - personal situation permitting. I'm already making lists for what the S2 needs to be LD tourable again ...

Bars, brakes, aux. lights, MeZ6 tires etc. etc.

Henrik

BTW, Ferris said that if you didn't show at BRATPAC II that we(he and I) were riding on to New York to kick some Danish arse! : )

Have to admit feeling a bit conspicuous amongst this seasoned group of riders without owning a 2 wheeler of my own, but if thoughts count for anything I have logged many miles wearing the chrome off my foot pegs trying to keep up with my brother. HEY, come to think of it, I have a 3 wheeler......and have had it over 235 MPH, does that count ???

Ferris,
It 'wheelies' every time it takes off... it's just that the other two pop off the ground a fraction of a second later.

Now burnouts? That would be cool to see.

Dr. Doug,
Cool surprise, even cooler that you are posting. Ya know now you can't leave...
