I started hearing a little tink-tink-tink sound coming from the rear cylinder..upon inspection I noticed when revving the engine the header is moving a lot.. The header nuts are tight...could this be as easy as replacing the exhaust clamp retaining ring and port gasket?

Are the header nuts tight or rusted? You may have a leak in the gasket. I would drop the header and take a look. It is a quick way to be sure.

The nuts are tight..and the header clamp is also tight, the pipe seems to be able to move in and out about 1/16 to an 1/8 inch.

It sounds like the gasket. I believe there are a set of thick semi metalic gasgets that attatch to the head. You may just have to replace those. If that's not the issue you may want to check to see if the stud has pulled out of the head? I would hope that is not the problem!

You and me both...I'm pretty sure it's not the studs...The nuts are tight and the clamp is secure and all the way against the head....Thanks for the help and the info....

(Man how many places can you talk about nuts and head, and not get in trouble)

I remember having a sealing problem on my Dad's sportster when we swapped his pipes. The gaskets are not hart to replace if I remember correctly.

did you inspect the lower exhaust mount at the front of the motor? is the bracket cracked?

i would swap out the exhaust gaskets if you have never done it (i do the intake and exhaust gaskets every two years) and torque-wrench the exhaust fasteners starting the heads and working your way to the back
