I'll bet he'll be riding FX next year if it continues to be the premier class. |

I assume it's true but don't really know, some guy on a different message board has this as his sig line... "Why don't I want to go to GP? Because I am a realist who knows I wouldn't be competitive...if I was on the right bike with the right team and had to race Rossi, I couldn't do it." -Matt Mladin 13th place finisher in GP in 1993 That quote doesn't make him look good that's for sure. I would hope that if he could be competitive, even if he couldnt win a GP championship but could still get podiums, he would ride in GP. |

mladin was very young back then, plucked out of the aussie superbike scene and then put on the cagiva 500 when the two strokes were animals of bikes.....would have been a miracle if he could have been more competative than he was,had a few offs and his confidence took a beating....look at him now and how confident he is on the big suzook, cant deny his talent |

He'd be in the top three now if he joined MotoGp, , that would also apply to Duhamel. |

I don't know if the quote was from 1993 or what but, if he and Duhamel could be in the top 3 or even top 5 in GP shouldn't they be there? Isn't it kind of like winning JV games when you could be competitive on Varsity? |

Not neccessarily, If the right deal involving money and more importantly equipment isn't offered then it can be better to be big fish in a little pond. |

There are many championships , many talented riders but only a limited number of factory spots ! BTW, he's not arrogant ,he's just a bloody Australian ! (Message edited by buelluk on April 25, 2005) |

From what I've heard Mladin is not really arrogant, he screws with people to get inside their head. One of the guys at Ferrachi told me that he once said "watch this" and walked over to Aaron Yates, he came back grinning as Yates was flipping him off and cussing. Mladin won the race. |

Comparing GP to AMA is like apples to oranges. Two totally different worlds.Mladin and Duhamel would have some of the same problems Hayden or Edwards or even Hopkins have been going through to get up through the ranks. |

As far as being arrogant, I don't know, He (Mladin) and Ben Spies invited my 10 year old son and myself into their pits to get autographs. Not something commonly done, thrilled my son to death. Seemed like a really nice guy when meeting him one on one. Don't buy the hype. It is a psych job on his competition. |

Mat, arrogant? I would say not. He just knows he can beat everyone in the paddock and has proved it. He does play mind games with everyone, helps keep them in second. Mat not wanting to go to GP? He wants to, in the worst way but ne also wants to win. He would need to go on a factory bike that could win. not one of the backup teams. I wonder if he would even take a factory Suzuki ride, they have been so slow the last few years it is doubtful if anyone could win on them. He is certainly POed that Hayden, Edwards and Hopkins all have rides and he feels they can't beat him. |

Hayden and Hopkins have talent like no other, there American and there still very young..thats why those boys have there factory rides..Edwards won superbike championships and earned his factory ride and he still is young..Mladin is a awesome rider and could be competitive in gp,but he running out of his youth and when Hayden, Hopkins, or Edwards start finding the groove "watch out" because there will be another American GP Champion! |

They first have to take the groove as you call it away from Rossi that had found that groove at a even younger age then any racer.Time will tell. |

Last time I checked, it took a bit of arrogance to screw with a guys head for the hell of it. Not to burst anybody's enthusiasm (I'm a BIG fan of Miguel's), but racing on the world scene has humbled quite a number of racers: Scott Russell, Miguel Duhamel, Ben Bostrum, and John Kosinski to name a few. It's just a matter of history that the transition from national to international competition is a diffucult one even for very competent and fast racers. |

It looks like Troy Corser is off to a good start on a Suzuki, In world Superbike too right now. Last race he won by a whopping 9 second lead. |

I agree with you BadS1, Neil is doing great for just jumping in this season. I love the sound those Duc's make on the track. |

Most riders will be "arrogant" if you bother them while they are in their leathers heading out for qualifying, the race, etc and you are hounding them for autographs or photos. If you get them early in the weekend during practice or even better after the race is over, they tend to be much more amiable, Mladin included. |

Some guys get that "race face" on and are unaproachable others don't seem to do that. I have seen Steve Morehead signing autographs while there were calling his race. Finally apolgised say, sorry i really got to go they are calling my race. And he really was sorry. Kept signing happily right up to the last possible moment. |

Hogson was pretty cool hanging out signing autographs in his leathers at Daytona wasn't he? This was after the race on Sunday. He was very hard to find earlier in the week, he tended to stay in his RV. I know, I was looking for him. |

If there was a prize for 'nice guy' then neil would clean up every time. But then he is English of course! I would love to see Mladin & DuHamel in WSB, just to see how the 'big fish' cope in a big pond. I'm not saying they aren't up to the task, but why stick to a domestic championship for so long if they feel they can win on a world stage? |

Didn't Hayden win the championship against Mladin when he was in AMA? Wasn't Mladin riding a GSXR750 at the time? The rules gave the 1000cc twins a big advantage over the 750cc multi's - which was why Honda built the RC51.
