BUELL ANNOUNCES NEW 2005 RACING CONTINGENCY PROGRAM

More than $200,000 in Cash Contingencies Offered to Privateer Buell Racers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 21, 2005) – Buell Motorcycle Company recently announced a new addition to its racing support program for 2005, with $134,350 in contingency paid to racers aboard Buell motorcycles in multiple regional race series. Combined with the already announced $70,500 support for the Formula USA National Thunderbike series, privateer Buell racers will be chasing more than $200,000 of cash contingencies at race tracks across the U.S. in 2005.

The new program pays cash to Buell racers competing in Championship Cup Series (CCS) Expert and Amateur Thunderbike class, Willow Springs Motorcycle Club (WSMC) Battle of the Twins (BOTT) Middleweight Expert class, Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association (WMRRA) Formula Thunder Expert class and All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA) Hot Street class. Any year and model Buell motorcycle is eligible for the contingency program and racers should contact the racing organizations to receive the Buell contingency form with complete program details.

“As a former privateer racer, I understand and appreciate the hard work and dedication it takes to compete week in and week out. We’re proud to support the efforts of Buell racers nationwide,” said Erik Buell, Chairman and Chief Technical Officer of Buell Motorcycle Company.

Tom and I will be riding up to the races on Saturday from Biggs San Marcos, leaving around 10-10:30AM, and going the adventuresome way on Killen trail backwards to scout it out for next weekends ride that MIGHT be there. It may be closed still, but we'll probably go around the barricades if yes. If anyone wants to join us, gimme a call to make arrangements.

I'll be there sunday too, likely putting up with Zach on the back.

My cell is 760-685-3583 if anyone at the races wants to reach me.

Yea, me too, gotta work my butt off. That's why I have to go to the races. Marketing, ya know. Gotta walk the parking lots, looking for Buells and leaving Business cards, meet with a few vendors, rub elbows with customers, etc. Yup, it's work, gotta do it. Hard work, no fun for me, gotta make up for all the fun I had last weekend. That's the ticket.

Hi, Southern CA Group. I used to live in San Diego but the Marine Corps sent me to NC for the past five years or so. I am due to move back to San Diego in the next few months and I was wondering what kind of a Buell scene you guys have out there? Also how often do Bueller's meet up for group rides? Finally do you ever do track days as a group? Thanks for the information. John

Hey - just in time!!

2 weeks we're going to have Erik Buell hisself at our races at Willow Springs - Sunday the 15th all day. Come out and watch Buells racing for $10 at the gate - you get full access. Glendale HD/Buell is going to do a formal announcement but heck yeah, come on out - also we try to do a last-weekend-of-the-month group ride starting at Glendale.

Al Lighton heads up the Sandy-Eggo group and I'm sure he'll chime in here but regardless, if you have never met Erik Buell in person, come to Willow Springs in 2 weeks!!!

John,
Like Slaughter said, I'm the director of the local BRAG group (officially, the Southern California Club (SCC) BRAG Chapter). There also is an unofficial non-BRAG group called SCAB (Souther California Area Buellers) that goes back quite a few years that we're somewhat aligned with. We have a SCAB group meeting on even months up in the Anaheim area on the first Thursday of the month, and then we try to have some type of BRAG event on the first weekend of the odd months (like a meeting at a remote location, followed by some type of ride). The Both groups coordinate a trip each year to Laguna Seca, where we've got three adjacent primo camping spots at the base of the corkscrew above Rainey curve. Touch base with me when you get settled in out here and I'll get you added to the appropriate mail lists. I try to keep a list of events, both local and national, on the American Sport Bike events page here

Al

Speaking of Laguna Seca, I watched the Rolex Sports Car Series race that was beamed up from there Sunday on TV. The cameras panned over the hillside camping area where Jerry used to put his Love Shack.

Unless I'm wrong, it looks like SCRAMP has levelled the entire hill flat to a height of probably no more than a few feet over the top of the cameraman who stands on his box at track level. So now there's a new vertical embankment approx 10 to 20' high behind which would be the flat area where we can put our tents and Jerry's Love Shack. You could see where they cleared back a large area for runoff for the last downhill left-hand sweeper at the corkscrew that was cut into the hillside where the old bridge was.

On a positive note, now that the camping/view area is lower, we still may have a good view of the corkscrew (looking under the new bridge). But it probably won't be the commanding overview of the track like we had in the past.

Sorry for the late mail. I tried to send something out the other night but apparently the mail did not send like I thought it did. Ithink the adelphia mail server may be broken. Just as well, we were talking about changing the meeting place to Idyllwild but that isn't the case.

Killen trail is closed, but we'll still meet at Hell's Kitchen at 11:00 AM. Get there however you want. Whoever gets there first, grab a table in the BACK, it is too loud out in front to talk. Grab lunch, and at 11:30-11:45 we'll start the normal meeting stuff, summer happenings updates, Tom and I will recap Springfast, Ebear can recap Barber, Laguna Seca planning updates, raffle, etc At 12:30 or so, we'll go on a ride. Eric and I are going to formulate the post meeting ride plans tonight. Once option is to head to Cooks Corner if we can find an interesting way to get there. If anyone has any other ideas, please reply. I'll print up some maps tonight.

I'll be leaving from the Biggs San Marcos Parking lot at 9:15AM to get to Hells Kitchen. Eric Barrows and Tom will be there too. Anyone else, feel free to meet us there, gas tank full, at about 9 or so, kickstands up at 9:15. We'll likely do the usual roads on the way up, Lilac, Couser Canyon, Rice Canyon etc.

See ya there!

I'll send a mail from American Sport Bike with this info as well since I can't get this out from home it appears.

For those wondering where it is, Hells Kitchen Motorsports Restaurant is at 32685 Ortega Hwy, Lake Elsinore, Calif. (909) 609-3390. Might be 951 instead of 909 area code. This is a Motorsports themed restaurant located near the top of Ortega Highway 74 above Lake Elsinore, about 1.5 miles west of the Lookout on the north side of the road.

Jerry,
You got that right. Since everyone abandoned us at the hotel on Saturday night, Tom, Don, and I had to get our dinner in the form of $2.50 Margarita's at the Show Low house of overbilling. This followed up by the big Fosters, then the Goldschlager, then the swill beers, then the lesbian bar, then more beer.... I find it amazing that I could rise to ride the next day at all.

The recap should be pretty easy, though. Drove to AZ, drank, slept, Rode back and forth on twisty stuff, then really fast on sweeper stuff, drank, slept, then fast on straight stuff, then kinda fast on really twisty stuff, then really fast on straight stuff, drank, slept, then kinda fast on wet stuff, then fast on sweeper stuff, then drove back to CA. Was there anything else to remember that I missed?

Al

Was there anything else to remember that I missed?

The only poignant omitted detail was Don, Unibear, Jeremy, and yours truly attempting to stuff potato chip shards into your unconscious mouth at the end of Round Three.

We felt you needed sustenance after the margarita feed to complete the food pyramid.

Give, give, give....never take.

Hey Glenn, I think you were front and center at the "lesbian" bar.
