Thought I would introduce myself and find a local Connecticut Buell riders group. Iíve owned quite a few bikes over the years, but this is my first Buell (2005 XB9R). I picked it up in January and have had it out several times so far. Absolutely love the handling.

Hello from Austin Texas.
I just purchased an 09 1125CR with an obnoxious exhaust and feel a bit overwhelmed. Last bike I had was an XB12S 10 years ago. So far I know it will need taller bars and quieter exhaust. Wow, now I feel old.

The 1125's are a completely different animal. Stock mufflers should be easy to come by, don't forget to match the tune in the ecm.

I just got a 2002 M2 Cyclone in Pumpkin orange and grey. First things first, I believe this to be one of the best looking bike I have ever owned. It's just beautiful. It shows its age a bit up close but it is still stunning at 10 feet. I have always wanted a Buell. Why? Because they are different, sporting, torquey and odd. I like things that other people don't. Plus I work at a Harley dealership and i want to ride the brand but I am not a cruiser guy. For all of the above reasons I am here.

Having NEVER ridden a Buell and only recently ridden a Sportster I didn't exactly know what to expect. I purchased mine cold turkey with a bit of apprehension. It's beautiful, as i said. and the PO took great care of it. In fact he has two other tube frame Buells. I got my first real ride on it today and I was soooo impressed. I spent many years with a Norton Commando as my main ride. The Buell has the feel of my old Commando but it has the luxury of electric start. It has the feel of my old Moto Guzzi T3 but it handles and stops a lot better. Over the past 5 years or so most of my riding has been on a Honda of one sort or another. They are smooth but not nearly as interesting as the Buell. I am looking forward to getting to know this Buell better.

Don't many people ride Buells anymore? I see some activity on the Ulysses side of things but not much for other models. Am I missing something?

I get that. I have been out riding too but not the Buell. I grounded it after an inspection turned up some damage to the isolators.I will feel much better about the bike when I get them changed out.

I've always like the XBs, but absolutely fell in love in the Ulysses when they first came out. I wasn't in a position to buy a bike until 2012, by then Buell was gone (I should have looked for a used Uly) and bought a new V-Strom 650. I loved having a bike, and the Uly was great for MY first bike. Sadly, I sold it in 2014 just before my daughter was born.

I grew up riding dirt bikes as a kid and graduated to my dad's HDs occasionally as an adult.

I'll be moving from Cincinnati to Greenville, SC next month and will be on the hunt for a Uly. I'd really prefer a 2008+ to avoid the chance of a crank failure on an 06 or 07.

Happy to be diving in head first soon.

Hey guys,

This is my first post here. Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I just recently picked up a 2008 1125r. And man do I love it! Ive always loved how they looked, from the first time i saw one with those big air scoops sticking out front. And then once I heard it and felt the torque; i was hooked! I used to have an older ninja 600, a '93, just like the one Tom Cruise rode in Top Gun, haha. Got rid of that and started looking at buells. Im in southern Cali and am looking forward to commuting on it and cruising the canyons. Just gotta take care of some basic maintenance items first; like new oil & filter, new coolant, new battery, new tires.

I any of you are in the LA/long beach area, hit me up for a group ride!

Hi guys, I AM new here. Don't have a Buell but always liked them so I'm lurking and looking at pics n' stuff but I just found a bike travel magazine and thought I'd post a link to it for others to read and enjoy and don't know where to post it.

I would also like to post a link to a small productd/mod for the bike that I've had on all my bikes that's cheap and awesome but don't know where to do it.

Thanks : )

HI Folks, Just joined the forum from the UK. I've just swapped my beautiful Triumph Daytona 955i 2007 for a Buell 1125R 2008. Buell's definitely rock. This one is just awesome. Looking forward to owning it for many years to come & hopefully contributing plenty to your discussion & tuning boards.

LANCE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!
After nearly 3 decades of working for Harley-Davidson, the Buell Guru himself Lance Kugler just completed his last day here at St. Paul Harley-Davidson. My name is Doug, I have probably talked with some of you before over phone/email. I will be taking over all of the E-commerce/Buell stuff here at SPHD. I do not possess the insane amount of Buell technical knowledge that Lance does, but I will do my best to answer all of your questions, get your parts, and keep your machines on the road!

My current two-wheeler: 2017 Harley-Davidson XG750A Street Rod. It's the closest thing to a Buell that Harley currently makes, and I added some Buell flair with the XB9SX handlebars.

Cheers folks!

Hello all,

Iíve been riding a 1997 M2 for several years. The knowledge available on this site has been very helpful to me. I hope my experiences can be of use to others.

About me:

Iíve been riding and working on bikes for about 20 years, always on Japanese machines until the Buell. My thing is ratbikes. By ďratbikeĒ I mean any bike that has been maintained for reliability first, minimal cost second, and looks third. I find that when I consistently follow those priorities I eventually end up with something that both rides well and gets compliments from other bikers. A good ratbike has a natural cool about it. A good ratbike was born to be one thing and ended up something else Ė something simpler, lighter, almost always faster, stripped of ego, more pureÖ better at its core mission of making its owner happy. Anybody who just wants basic transportation should consider a Honda Civic.

I donít ignore aesthetics. I just find that a solution I can cobble together in my backyard usually ends up looking cooler than the latest chrome geegaw available to everyone online.

About my bike:

ďMiss MollyĒ has about 27000 miles on the clock. Iím at least her third owner, but I suspect itís more than that. Sheís the ďold typeĒ with the skinny tank and seat. I donít know how much the motor has been worked on. The ignition module says ďscreaming eagleĒ on it. She had an aftermarket muffler when I bought her and I suspect her carb was re-jetted at some time. She has a simple aftermarket cone-style air filter. My guess is the guts of her motor and trans are stock from 1997, but I canít really know. She is of course missing all the useless parts like the chin fairing, belt guard, ugly stock lights, etc.

Somebody long before me had the foresight to mount a Corbin seat that has the skinny profile of the stock seat. Iíve searched online and never seen another like it. Her seat is her best feature, as befits any good ratbike.

Some issues I have experienced:

Any bike thatís old enough to buy itself a beer is going to have some maintenance issues. I hope that my experiences with fixing Miss Molly are helpful to others.

1. I tipped her over in the driveway and bent the shifter. Vice Grips, a pipe wrench, and determination were enough to get things bent back into place.
2. The ďtoe-partĒ of the shifter fell off at about 60mph on the highway. No doubt related to issue #1. It wasnít comfortable but there was enough of the shift lever left to nurse her home. Iíve since experimented with a variety of bolts for a shifter and short sections of hose for cushioning my foot. I eventually arrived at a combination that is reliable and comfortable.
3. The starter quit. Fortunately, I got stranded at a biker bar. I borrowed some tools from the bar manager, got her going and got home. Fixing the starter on these motors is a chore. This is how I learned not to tell the local Harley dealership youíre working on a Buell. Just look up the part numbers yourself, tell them what you want, be nice, but donít take any BS. Which leads to #4.
4. When I took the primary cover off to get to the bolts that hold the starter on, I found tramp metal in there. I donít just mean little bits. I mean a chunk of metal bigger than four quarters stacked together. I drilled a hole in it and wear it as a pendant on a necklace sometimes. I have no idea how that got in there. I searched hard and I couldnít find anything it could have broken off from. By some miracle, the primary drive still functions perfectly. Who knows for how long?
5. The clutch cable snapped at about 60mph on the same **** stretch of highway where the shifter quit. This one was my fault. I adjusted it too tight. The first tow company I called told me they donít deal with bikers; too much trouble. I eventually found a guy with a roll-back who was also a biker. He got me back to my shop for a reasonable fee. Replacing a clutch cable is easy, but get an aftermarket one. My local Harley dealership sold me the wrong cable.
6. The muffler fell off, also at about 60 mph. I dragged it down the highway showering sparks until I could get to an off ramp. Iím lucky to have gotten away with this one, it could have gotten caught up and spilled me. I tore my shirt apart to make straps, tied the remaining bits to be bike, and got home. I removed every exhaust component aft of where the headers meet, and installed a short 90 degree section of exhaust tubing from the local auto shop. Itís a bit loud, but it works, and wonít fall off. I was surprised that the change of exhaust did not upset the carb tuning in any noticeable way.
7. The drive belt broke. Before the Buell, I always had chain-drive bikes, so I know their quirks. I know when a chain is about to quit. The belt on the Buell just snapped. Maybe it gave me some warning signs. If it did, I missed them. It just broke. By Godís grace, I was uphill from my workshop at the time, and just coasted home. Replacing the drive belt on one of these Buells takes some work. I ended up rebuilding an engine-hoist so I could pick up the back end of the bike. I had to make improvised tooling to get the new belt installed. Lots of people say to replace the rear isolators while youíre in there, but mine were obviously aftermarket parts and in good shape, so I left them.

Of course Iíve also done the typical oil changes, tire maintenance and other little things that come with riding any bike. Overall, Iíve spent about as much time working on Miss Molly as I have riding her. Thatís fine by me, I enjoy it.

Hello!

I am Ciernit.
I have purchased my first bike and it is a project. Buell has been on my mind for a long time as the bike I wanted. So when an opportunity even as a decent sized project fell in my lap I turned on the idea.

I now own a 2001 Buell Blast. Heard all the shannanigans about every thought on whether to own this bike or not but it was a Buell and that's what I wanted.
So i am a beginner rider with a bike that will take me the winter season to establish as a safe ride and a legal ride. I'm excited and dont feel at all doubt that I will be ready for the spring riding seasonal legal and safe to hit the rode.

So I am looking forward to reading everyone's input and suggestions on how to accomplish my task and maybe along the way something I run into will help someone else.
