Hello everyone, just joined up although I have been mining the knowlege vaults for a while. Joined up because I just purchased a '99 s3t. The bike is in way south Texas and I am in Tumwater WA. I am flying down on the 22nd to ride the bike back. I have wanted a Buell for years, have a '94 Sportster that I have put 85000 miles on and am looking for a little more comfort and performance. Been hanging out over at the xl-list for years, probably going to be spending more time over here now. Any secret tips about things to watch for on the bike as I ride it home? I plan to do the trip in 5-6 days. The bike is well broke in with 17500 on the odometer, all south Texas miles. Looks to be in excellent condition, keeping my fingers crossed.

Essjay,what is your planned route home,and have you checked out our Rider Assistance Network?You can take along a list of Buell fanatics in case you run into the unexpected.And maybe pick up riding companions.Or just stop in to bullshit and have a beer.

Firemanjim, Thanks for the tip, I will check that out. Right now my route is Harlingen to Corpus Christi, north on 281 to San Antonio, then either 90 or 10 to El Paso, 25 to Albuquerque, 40 west to Gallup NM then north on 666 past shiprock, west on 160 then north on 191, dodge around SLC on 40/80/84 then 84 n portland then 5 n to Tumwater. Hehe, sounds so easy on paper. My route is flexible dependent on weather and time.

Hey all just joined the rest of ya'll just wanted to say hi and see if any of ya have heard about a 1250 cc kit for the firebolt. I've got close to 6000 miles on the bike and looking for more power already. If anyone of you heard anything about it let me know please

P.S. Does anyone know about a Turbo for the bike yet also?

Hi guys I'm new here. I bought a 99 Buell S3T Thunderbolt. I was wondering if any of you had any experience with the Flanders Bar. I can no longer ride in the lean forward position because of neck pain and the Flanders Bar looks like it's right up my alley but it looks like it's going to hit the fairing when turning. Also has anyone done any kind of modification to their Thunderbolt fairing? Made it taller perhaps? Looking forward to meeting soem of you soon. Jack

Welcome, Cactusjack. I have a '97 S3 and my experience is that clearance between the fairing and the handlebar at full lock is quite tight. If you get a bar that's much taller, it seems to me that it'll have to bend more rearward in order to clear the fairing. Taller replacement windscreens are available for our bikes from at least two sources, but I do not know of any method to raise the fairing itself.
You're going to love your bike once you get it set up to your likeing!

Hello, My name is Bronco and I'm a buellaholic. I've been lurking for a couple of years now, mining the nuggets of knowledge and words of wisdom pertaining to Buell ownership. Thanks to your insight, I threw reason aside and purchased an amazon green 2000 S3T (bargain priced) and have no regrets. Yes, I've had a few mechanical issues, but the extended warrenty and great dealer support (Eastside H.D.)has kept me smilin' for miles. I've owned a dozen other foreign motorcycles, but none of them has left me with perma-grin like the Buell does, It's addicting and I've got 11 long steps to go. I've put 7000 miles on her in the past year and a half, but wish I tallied twice that. This thing is the most fun you can have on two (sometimes one) wheels. It's dirt bike fun, but still shines in the sun. I did however put the shiney side down coming off the ferry (cold tires, and too much throttle). Lessons learned: full leathers, f.f. helmet and sturdy boots are good; scorched Dunlops will be replaced sooner than later; Buell parts are affordable; act my age, not my IQ. Lesson I need to learn: how should I patch a 4" hole in my plastic saddlebag lid? Will epoxy stick reliably to plastic? Where can I find a battletrax course and hone my riding (crashing?) skills? p.s. I'm more mechaniclly than technologically inclined, so let me know if I'm backing up on the information superhighway. Thanks for all the great info you continue to provide, and I hope you'll understand If I never finish my 12 step program to be Buell free. A little advice to Essjay, check you fluids, front rotor and rear shock for leaks, oterwise the bugs should have been worked out by 17K. Let it warm up before you flog it, keep the R's above 3000 and never look back. I'll be buying you a beer when you get back to the Pacific Northwest. Bronco

Bought a new bike from the mother company (H-D) in Wellington in '98, crossed the straights, and spent 2+ weeks riding the South Island.

Hi all from cold and rainy southern NH, like it has been said before I have been searching the badweb for some time now and finally decided to join. I am kinda bummed thought. Just picked up my bike from my parents basement in VT and it now has to sit outside I the rain. Oh-well I guess now I can ride it when we get another good day. Happy riding to all that can.

Hi folks Im new to Buells, I have ridden Hondas and Ducatis a bunch of years ago and decided to get back into motorcycling. I own a 2003 Firebolt and just brought it to the dealer for 1000mi check up. This bike is unbeliveable to ride, what a gas. The knowledge Vault is great, I plan to replace the stock muffler/air cleaner with Buell race stuff.

hello fellow buellers. my name is philip and i recently stumbled across this web site. i've been riding minibikes and motorcycles since i was 14, now 48 years young, although every year it gets harder to maintain a semblance of immaturity. i still own a 1972 sportster i bought brand new in 72 and the z-1 i bought in 1980. now my main ride is a 1999 m-2 i bought new in 1999. love it! i can't leave anything stock, the sportster is stroked and going back up cafe style, the z-1 is big bore big cam big carbed and badass. i just finished doing the 1250 nallinization on the m-2 with se536 cams, what a sweet setup. thats me in a large nutshell. love the site and will be participating.

Stroked a sportster huh? Was it a 1200 in 72, or a 1000? Can't imagine what a stroked 1200 would feel like, would love to see a dyno chart for it when you button it back up!
