Hi, I just found this site and wanted to say it rocks, there is a ton of info. Its great to know there are so many others who love their BUELLS. I bought mine in April, kinda my birthday present to myself, its a 98 S-3, I love it, especially pulling up next to someone whos looking around trying to figure out where all the noise is coming from, well anyways I am glad I found the place. | ||

Wow, a Penske shock is a top of the line upgrade as are the Banke rear sets. You done very good amigo. Jon, I only know one other firefighter and he is a prince of a guy. So you must be the opposite in order to maintain the cosmic balance right?  Seriously though, it's great to have another brave fireman on the BadWeB. And way to go with the birthday self-gifting! HOW I GOT MY BUELL. I am relatively new to riding. I rode a little as a kid twenty years ago on a scooter called a "Tote Goat?" Anyway, a few months ago I started getting interested in riding because I was spending $250.00 in gas every month. I mentally went through a series of solutions. I even considered riding the bus or pedaling a bicycle. I don't remember the exact moment but had an epiphany like the cliche' light bulb turning on. Why don't I ride a motorcycle? Two hundred fifty dollars is enough to make payments on a bike, purchase insurance, buy gas and still come out ahead. The only problem was my wife shot me down every time I attempted to talk about it. I don't know how many "discussions" we had, but I felt it important enough to pursue. (We've got to pick and choose our battles) I even went behind her back (mistake) and ordered a kevlar suit from Cycleport. I was careful to conceal it in the beginning, ordering pieces at a time and making small payments. I got a little zealous a made two significant payment within a couple weeks of each other. I am still getting a little fall out from that but I should receive 31 Jan. I digress. I started researching bikes. I initially wanted a cruiser but the weight, lack of handling and gas mileage led me to look at sport bikes for commuting. I also didn't want to get bored with the bike after a couple weeks of riding. I really like the look, power and handling of a naked bike. After, hours of surfing, asking questions and dragging friends and family to every cycle shop within fifty miles of my house, I settled on Buell. Why Buell? Initially it was all about looks. (Yep, I am just your average guy) Buell's don't look like anything else. I then started comparing specs and handling. First and foremost I commute on the thing. I want to be able to move in and out of traffic and get out of the way. Buell's are very easy to turn, even for a novice. I can maneuver my 2000 M2 a whole lot easier than the 250cc I used for the motorcycle safety course. I feel more confident about my abilities on this bike, safer. I ride in Washington State in the rain. It is very easy to lock up on wet pavement and loose control. I can "flick" this bike to avoid an accident (trial by fire on this one, baby). I feel the power distribution also adds to safety. Those in-line fours that red-line at 11,000 rpm with a narrow power and unpredictable band above 6500 rpm and go 150mph+ are an overkill for me. Having predictable power accessible at low rpms, in my opinion, is safer and more usable on every road and in every situation but racing on a track. With that said, I looked into Buell's. Being a novice I didn't want to spring for a new Buell just yet(probably after a couple years of riding). I found a 2000 M2 with 1,800 miles for $4,400 out the door. I have owned it for about three weeks now and put over 500 miles on it, riding it rain or shine every day. Thanks for reading and happy riding. I AM ADDICTED! | ||

Greetings All, Just wanted to say Hi! I am new to this site and a fairly new Buell owner. I bought my XB9SX in Sept, after taking a motorcycle safety class. (Well not really after, I was so addicted after our first day on the bikes I went that night and bought it.) In the first two months I put 3,000 miles on the bike. It has gotten too cold now to ride everyday, but I try to get out once a week. Now I am just waiting for spring so I can ride it every day. Cheers | ||

So I did it - went a purchased a black Uly that I will pick up on Saturday. Thought I was out of bikes since I sold my Beemer (1985 K100RS) and Yamaha Seca 750 last year, but went with a buddy looking at Harleys and fell in love with the Uly at the dealership. Of course they wanted $500 over list at that dealership, but I did manage to find a smokin deal less than 100 miles away. Now I can't wait to pick up the damn thing. Gotta work all week so I will pick it up this weekend. | ||

Hi there. I just found out about this site from the guy at the harley dealer parts counter. I bought a 2001 lighting in April last year and am in love with it. I live in Colorado so one would think that winter time is all snowy and stuff but there has been very few days that I have been unable to ride because of weather. Today it was 50 degrees at 6:30 AM. My commute to work is the hi-lite of my day. Sad but true. So the store goes I decided to buy a cheap bike to commute to work and found a 88 Honda hawk (nt650gt) a small twin for those who don't know. It was a gas to ride but a little low on power. At this time my love of road racing led me to the AMA races at Pikes Peak. Buell had a demo ride thing there and I decided to do it. I was hooked! I wanted a Buell BAD! I was looking every day in the paper and on ebay. Them one day I was in a meeting at work and a coworker said there was someone in the parking lot who wanted to buy my Honda. It was falling into place. I meet with him and told him I was thinking of selling it anyway because I wanted to buy a Buell. To my surprise he said he had a 96 SI that he would trade me. I was on cloud 9. That night I told my wife and we just felt like there was some divine stuff happening. The next day he came to work with the bike. It was just rebuild at the dealer all black and bad. I had to try and not drool. So we went to a shop that he knew to have the Honda checked out. While we were there the guys at the shop were so into the Buell that I think they talked him into not wanting to trade. So the next day he called and said that he wanted to keep the Buell but still wanted to buy the Honda. My heart was broken. I think he could tell because when he came over to p/u the Honda he said he would sell the buell to me because he said he would but didn't really want to. I just didn't feel right about that besides selling the Honda got me a little closer to buying a buell. It took about a month but I found the one I'm riding about 500 miles a way on Ebay for $4500. My wife didn't even put up a stink she knew how bad I what a Buell. I left town at 5:00 in the morning with my Brothers truck to pick it up after talking with the owner. We were going to meet in a little town just outside of where he lived (in the mountains). I waited for about 2 hours and was just about ready to give up on him when he called and said his cell phone had not been working. First it wouldn't start but it looked like it had been well taken care of I thought about not going through with it but his girl friend was really Cute in her little cut off jeans and halter. So I stuck around to see if he could get it going. Bad gas - made the deal and loaded it up. Got caught in a hail storm on the way home. It was quite a adventure. I think that's enough for now but that how I got my Buell. | ||

Hi everyone, I just finished purchasing my 1st Buell yesterday I've been lurking here for the last couple of months and have learned a great deal about the history, things to watch for, and performance of these bikes- thanks for the great site! I returned to riding 3 years ago aboard an 84 Kawasaki GPz 550 that I did a lot of work too, rode the hell out of and sold for every penny that I had into it, nothing like riding free for 3 years (ok, I did have a lot of hours into it)! I also drag race, New England Dragway is only 15 minutes from home. My brother has a Ducati M750 (now it is a 900, long story) and we had some epic races as the straightline performance was virtually identical! Now that his Duc has a 900 motor in it and I'm getting a 1200 he is worried and is shopping for some flatslide carbs. I'm betting we will have a great "battle of the twins" this spring! We are talking about doing a track day at Loudon this year too, but I didn't buy this bike for racing, I wanted a streetbike that does it all- looks, sound, performance, handling, engineering, touring, sport riding, commuting and has panache. I think I found it! I have always done all of my own work except for changing tires, so I'm sure I will have some questions along the way. Hello, I came to this site by a couple of riders who told me about it, Seth was the first, and then another Buell rider in Baltimore. I started riding Buells in 2000 I bought the Milleninum #289 and after 3,600 miles it was totaled by a drunk driver 30 days after that I bought a 2000 Racing stripe, red X1 #274 and I'm still riding it today. I've done a lot of things with Buells I teach Rider's Edge, do some Brag events and Battletrax. I plan on getting a new Buell this March and NO I'm not selling my X1! I would love to have the new CityX but I'm tippy toe on it I like the Kick Ash color! Great site }} | ||

hi Y'all, I just traded my 01 road king in on XB12X back before the new year. What a hoot!!!... My first non-crusier. The learning curve was much shorter than I expected ,but the fun was there from the very start..well all was good till last tuesday when a lil jeep cherokee decided to see what a new ulley tasted like.. After the jeep (not so gently)kissed my left foot peg via my left foot i was gifted with the opportunity to do a little cycle sculpting with good'ole terra firma. A rocky way to start a beautiful relationship with a "new horse". Thankfully I'm still here with a few bruised ribs and a black and blue foot. bike is being fixed and all is well so far.... Oh yes the officer that took the report was a motorcycle cop. Bought a 2000 x-1 two weeks ago. Mother nature took a chill pill. I've only been out for an hour on it. Not yet set up suspension wise. I took the MSF course last year and couldn't bear the idea of losing more driving time. Read one too many articles about buells, watched e-bay to get a grip on prices,decided it was time to get a twisty wrist too. I haven't ridden in about twenty years. Last bike was a yamaha rd-350, so this a big jump. WOW YEAH it is. I test drove a road king over the summer, but I had a hard time with the price. I was very glad to see someone trade a king in to buy their buell. The last bike dates me. So yeah, I'm going through midlife crises, but my wife and I decided that a motorcycle was much cheaper than a divorce! I would like to get the bike up to speed on its maint schedule. I need fluid info if anyone cares. You know tranny, engine and fork specs. The book is intentionally vague. It'll be a long time till spring. I'm chomping at the bit. As soon as the snow is off the streets, I'll be on them. Frozen fingers won't let the ride be too long, but I'll be out there (if I'm not already). | ||

Hello, my name is Ian. Im 29 and just got my first street bike, 2006 XB12Ss. I havent even riden it yet because i got home and it got dark! I still need to get my permit! Ive been riding dirt bikes since i was 12 though so i have a good feel for bikes, just never got one untill today!! On the other hand, i cant keep it running! I unloaded it from the truck and went to take it for a spin and it wont stay running! Took the seat off to see if the battery was low, it was.. So i charged it up, started it and it idles real rough and pops, or backfires allitle, then dies!! Is it just cold-blooded? I live in Indiana and it was about 45 degrees out when i tried to get it running! That shouldnt be to cold for it to run that bad huh?? The salesman got on it started it right up, it sat and idled fine, he rode it around the parking lot for about 3 min, came back and it sounded great! I had a 2 hour drive home and now it runs like crap!! What gives?? All and all, im happy with my 1st bike purchase(wifes not). I wanted something different and american made!! So im looking forward to hear some good stories and just BS around the baord!! Later Ian P.S. i also just joined buelletinboard.com and put this same post!! |
