Hi I just found about this forum. I aquired my Buell from my husband, he died a little over a year ago. He was a good guy and I miss him but I know life goes on now. I am looking to have some fun riding. He had just bought it and had about 1500 miles when I took the safety course and started riding it. I borrowed a friends Yamaha to practice for the course. I have not riden much on the street but I used to ride dirt bikes a lot with my brothers. Even raced MotoX a little back in the early 80's. I live in the Central Coast Calif. and we have a lot of nice riding and weather here. I have put about 3000 miles on the bike since I started riding it. I usually ride with my Harley friends and have been considering selling to buy a Harley. I don't know yet. I never rode behind my husband because the Buell is no good for the passenger. Oh well I hope to meet some nice people here and learn some since I am alone now and need to know about the bike. I am mechanically inclined. My Dad and brothers taught me to work on all the lousy cars I used to drive. Now I have a good car (thanks to my ole mans life insurance policy). But I think I want to learn to service the bike because there are no dealers around here. Oh well enough yapping I'll be hangin' around and learning...   | ||

Indeed welcome Busty! I've read a few posts on Badweb from a Bueller or two in your area so I know there are a few there. I'm just a ways east of you in Bakersfield. Just east of me in the Lake Isabella area is Ferris(Jerry Haughton) who will also be rideing through your area on the FBRAT ride in a couple of weeks. The Badweb Stormfronts and Tale sections has a number of threads devoted to local riders and such events. Finaly the Octoberfast ride will gather Buellers & friends from all over to ride some of the best roads in the state. Through this board I've had alot of good times and met a lot of great people. | ||

This looks like a good group. Perhaps I'll hang out for awhile. Yes, I have no Buell - yet. I've been riding since 1969, and have had many different rides. The biggest bike so far, however, has been a scooter. Last April 27th, I left the road rather violently on my (dear departed) Suzuki AN650K4, breaking one vertebra and two ribs. It was probably the best thing that's happened all year in that there was an asymptomatic anomaly discovered, which requires monitoring (NHL). So anyway, the big twist-n-go has been hauled off (totaled), and I'm looking for something to buy next spring. (Though I still have my DR350, the bride insists that I don't ride 'til then. C'mon! It's just a little broken back.) I'm back to looking over the same bikes that I was overlooking when I got the scooter (which, by the way, was an excellent ride) - FJR, KTMADV, Tiger, when what (to my wondering eyes) should appear, but a really tall Buell. The last Buell I had the opportunity to ride was an '03 Firebolt, and while I was positively taken by the torque (second gear was a DRUG), the rider position, IMHO, was dreadful. (I am fully aware that I've offended some folks already, but I only rode it a couple of miles, so it was a quickie opinion.) A fully-upright Buell sounds like it oughta be an absoloot hoot! So now I'm lusting over a XB12X like a pit bull over raw steak. Come on, spring! Steve | ||

Welcome Bustybuell! Nice city, was just up there the other night for Farmer's market. I have seen in passing quite a few Buell riders but have yet to stop and talk to another owner from this area yet. The Central Coast indeed has quite a few nice roads to offer. Hwy. 1 up to Monterey is calling me on Sunday since I won't be making Al's party down south in Vista. | ||

Steve, Welcome. You might try one of the later '90s-early 2000 tube frame Buells. My '99 M2 (with S3T bars) is about as upright as it gets, and performance....let me tell you about it some time! All the tubers have a little more leg room as well. Just a thought...  | ||

Possible new Buell guy here, not new to bikes, just Buells. I have always loved the look, sound and attitude of the Buell. I have a chance to pick up 2000 X1 with 3200 miles for 5500 bucks. It has a supertrapp exhaust and the race fuel injection control. It looks pretty tight but it was a trade in at a victory dealer I trust and the previous owner is not reachable for a couple of weeks. Anything I should check? Any help would be great. I'm in the kansas city area, any dealer recomendations? thanks, mark mrohman@everestkc.net | ||

MAD PSB Making A difference Ride Okay let me start off by saying G'day to you all. Okay the Ride the title refers to is taking place on the 18 September 2005 in the remotest Capital city on Earth.. .. Way way way DOWNunder in PERTH, Western Australia. The local Internet based Riders group PSB (Perth Streetbikes) is hosting the ride in support of the local Shenton Park Hospital Spinal Rehabilitation Unit. The fundraising rides costs $10 per bike plus a 'gold' coin donation (that is one or two dollars in Aussie currency). Hello Fellow Riders, I'm Pinky, Ms. PINky for those of you who need clarification! I own a 2000 X1 lightin. One of the best things that ever happened to me next to my biker brothers growing up. Harleys were my passion from my younger years but when I met my husband that changed as he was a Brit bike man. Beings as my first husband was a cluber, it was easy for me to see that the old brit bikes were cool too. Although my love for harleys never died. A few years ago my husband had dropped his TT600 triumph & came to realize that he still hadn't found what he was lookin for in a bad motor scooter. It was ebay that brought him to know what a buell was. He had seen them at the track. Thought they sounded nice, but the rider wasn't experienced enough to really get his attention. Mind however was captured! When John decided to purchase a Buell I thought"There is a God," We were going to have our first harley together! Once he got it home, I could see how it was going to be! That bike had struck a cord in his heart & I was going to have to fight for the space if I was goin g to keep my space there! Well, the next thing I knew John & I were on our way to Seattle To Pick up MY NEW X1!!!! I knew I had a place in his heart. I mean after 20 years you would think so! We have been riding a having the time of our lives ever since! Now we own several Buells & make parts for them too! Who knew we would make a life out of them! We are so thankful to Buell motorcycles! LONG LIVE BUELLS!! cOME VISIT US AT EBAY! BEFORE WE GET OUR NEW WEB SITE! Because ebay is costing sellers to much! We are Billet 2 Race (the store) & Col. time is the seller. Hi group. I was just informed about this group and it looks like a good group to chat about buells. I own an '05 Blast, (first bike ever owned and riden). I love it and now I am purchasing a new XB12X. Sat on one at the dealership while my Blast was in for repair. Can't wait until Oct. to get the new one. Well, I am in Alabama and have not found many riders of Buells here but hopefully some are on here. | ||

Hi, I'm new to Buells, and almost new to riding, since I haven't done much since the early '70s. I bought this really nice S3T in late July, and I've only got about 500 miles on it, so far. I'm located in NW Oregon, so, if I don't ride in bad weather, it won't get many more miles on it, soon. The rain is coming! So far, the only problems I've had with the bike are the footpeg that came loose, the loose shift linkage (wobbles around a lot, but it works), too-loud exhaust, and backfiring through the carburetor (time for a tune-up?). I ordered a new bushing for the linkage, where it mounts to the footpeg, but I don't think that will fix the sloppiness. I may have to modify the footpeg to give more pre-load to the bushing, either by filing it down, so it doesn't "bottom out" so soon, or by finding a very thin washer to put behind the bushing. The Vance & Hines muffler comes right apart, and some of the packing was burnt up. I asked about packing @ Paradise Harley-Davidson in Tigard, OR (good people there), and they could order some, but I declined. They then suggested I check with Beaverton Honda, just down the street, and I found just what I needed there. Now, I just have to put it back together, and see if it helps quiet the bike down. I don't really object to the sound, but it was a little bit on the loud side, and I've been riding the bike to work, occasionally. Cranking up a loud V-twin @ 4:45 AM is not conducive to good relations with the neighbors. I hope this quiets it down sufficiently, 'cause the ceramic-coated muffler looks really nice, and I don't want to replace it with a stock unit. I sure don't want to spend the money having a stock muffler ceramic-coated, 'though I suppose that's another alternative. Thank you for your patience. I'm open to all suggestions & advice. Larry | ||

Welcome aboard, Larry! The shifter problem is easily (and permanently) solved by installing either the late-model shifter installation or the Banke shifter. The shifter kit for your bike is P/N 91368-99Y and you should be able to get it through Dave (see the Dave I Need It Now Thread) The Banke shifter is available from Jim Banke- his website is www.bankeperformance.com From what I hear, it's as good or better. I have the upgraded Buell shifter on my M2 and have no problems with it. As for the muffler; The stock S3T muffler is a pretty good compromise between power and quiet. If power is more important, I'd recommend the race header/muffler p/n 65396-96YA (97-98) or 65400-99YA (99-after). If you want to keep the stock header, the slip-on Pro Series p/n is 65012-01Y. Either way, they are quieter than the V&H in my opinion. As for backfiring through the exhaust...doubt if this is a "tune-up" issue. There is a ton of info in the Knowledge Vault (KV) regarding this so check there first...if you don't find what you're looking for, let us know. (I assume your S3T is fuel injected.) Most importantly, welcome to the Badweb and Buells, and back to motorcycling. Funny how so many people who "come back" to motorcycling wind up riding tube-frame Buells.... | ||

My 2000 M2 shift linkage is the same at only 3,400 miles, the bronze bushings kits from American Sports Bike might be another option, I think those will fit your bike too. I plan to order a set of those for my over the winter work. I'm in Maine, the upcoming part of our "rainy season" gets frozen for the most part. Jack | ||

Hi, new Buell convert, I race a sprint car in Oklahoma City. When younger I raced moto-x for 27 years, some speedway, short track, enduro, and a few road races. I recently bought a 1 owner '97 S1. It is a beautiful bike, Snap Red, Silver frame, and Snap Red wheels. I am looking for a solution to a leaky oil tank. I really don't want to go to an aluminum one as the cost is a little high. Has anyone had this problem, and do you know of a cure or solution? I'm open to all suggestions. Thanx Zack | ||

It seemed to me this was one of the few 500 size bikes that was reasonably priced, had good reviews for cornering and I could be comfortable on for my first bike.
