I sure some of the long time members will say been there, done that but I haven’t been a member that long so maybe a new perspective will be helpful. I’ve been through a lot of the archives and there are many questions that haven’t been asked or answered. What I would like to do is a high quality picture heavy thread because sometimes descriptions just aren’t enough. And like my Dad used to say, believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see. So to begin, are castings Identical? I’ll start with the intake side of the heads. Based on other pics, I don’t think they’ve be drastically modified. 1125 top, 1190 bottom.

Not even close if you ask me. Another 1190 pic with part #.

Yes, the castings are identical because EBR did not have the funds to change them. Band-aids were applied but the castings are the same.

I’m not aware of Erik ever designing heads from scratch. He has always taken existing castings and made improvements where he thought were needed….mostly modifying ports and valve sizes. http://hammerperf.com/ttxlheads.shtml

I had seen this pic so many times in the archives.

1190 intake port

and then saw an 1125 head on EBay and thought someone had gone hog wild grinding on the intake ports. Reminded me of the old 302 tunnel port heads from the ‘60s.
Then saw a couple other 1125 EBay listings and they all looked the same.

1125 Ebay

Don’t know if anyone has ever CCed the ports for comparison. Other changes could have been done that aren’t as visually obvious. A mounting boss in front of the timing chain area was eliminated…I didn’t know it’s purpose.

BTW, there’s a guy selling a supply of unused heads in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 74 heads for $3K, which works out to only $40 ea…pick up only. Never seen an RS head and don’t know how they’re different.

Much of that stuff was trashed . . .auctioned . . . Or carted off. I’ve a friend who has about 150 sets of wheels and I am aware that when HD was collecting pallets of motors . . . .about every 3rd pallet was accidentally put in the wrong truck.

I keep thinking about writing some of the funnier stories from 2009 . . . . Best was the folks sent to confirm presence of the Buell owned “bikes of interest” . . . Guy lifted a tarp . . . Saw all the Honda dirt bike stickers and walked away . . . The fact that BUELL was cast in the case didn’t register.

The real estate was funnier yet . . . .Harley, to this day, is likely unaware of some of the things Wendell, in his blind rage, got taken for.

Kinda . . . .the folks doing it were Gary Stippach and Gary Valine . . . .both motor design gurus. Although they may have started with a Sportster head . . . The design was light years “non-sportster” and unique to Buell.

You don’t get twice the HP of a Sportster using anything resembling the stock head.

Yeah, the seller said the heads were auctioned so he could have bought them at scrap metal prices. The dealer who sold me an RX mentioned buying 10 EBRs at an auction in early 2018. They were all priced the same at $10K, sold all the RXs within 6 mo…the SXs took over 2 years to sell. That’s why I have some reservations about the new bike sales.

That’s true, the ‘98 Sportster 1200 made 50.4 hp. My S3 was making 101 hp, thanks in part to the Thunderstorm heads.

I wouldn’t mind having a junk 1125 head just to cut it apart. Looking at this photo, there seems to be a substantial amount of metal under the intake spring pocket. Not sure about the exhaust though.
