The reason that the valve clearance intervals were what they were was that they were using a new-to-this-cylinder-head valve seat material and there was expected to be a very wide range of use and/or abuse done to the powertrain. The engineers weren't comfortable with longer than 6200 miles to start with, and that's what the EPA cert was spec'd for. Like Shoggin said...why chance it?
