This is getting ridiculous.
It's like a bad accident you can't stop watching.
I keep watching the 1190's drop in price and now
I want, want, WANT!!!

"Love at first sight", describes the moment I saw that white 1190SX in front of the Calatrava in Milwaukee. But that RX...Ohhh that Galactic Black RX is just like an abrasive, uncomfortable, and sexy ex-girlfriend that I just can't stop thinking about.

But I do have concerns...
(Is there a published list of the EBR TSBs anywhere?)

I can't believe I'm even considering this purchase, but I feel like this may be the last time to pick up one of these bad ass bikes for quite some time. And at these prices, I'd be stupid not to.
I haven't have any issues with my 08' 1125, and I could probably sell it for what I paid for it five years ago.
So, If I buy an RX or SX and it runs as well as or better then my 1125, I'll be in heaven.

Someone please talk me down from this ledge

I'm very happy with my (000028 Vin.) RX.

The only odd thing is that mine changes the Traction Control (turned off...normally!) and clock setting on it's own..!
The Traction Control twice and the clock three times..!?
The fuel mapping is pretty close overall.

And I drive mine every day, to work and home (82 miles), since I bought it three weeks ago.

^ Judging from comments here and at www.ebrforum.com, there have been more niggles with the early bikes. From what I gather, most are issues with electronics, plastics, etc.; no engines grenading or anything like that. Normally not hard to fix but possibly impossible if EBR doesn't recover.

Like Hughlysses said ... early bikes had some electronics and throttle body issues that caused annoying DTC's .. that was an easy fix if you had a warranty and a dealer that could get parts.

I would say DON'T do it if you have to finance it. In fact you might not even be able to. Good luck finding decent insurance now too. Other wise at these prices its a no brainer...

Most of the issues with plastics have to do with TORQUE SPECS which are there for a reason! Particularly the tail, airbox cover and windshield. Make sure the tech doesn't over tighten or they will develop stress cracks. Also be sure the body work is not twisted, all holes should line up easily with no tension or stress in the panels. If not take it off and put it on right!

#105 is doing great with just under 12K miles with two vale checks and no adjustments under its belt. It did get a new under warranty:
Headlight (condensation from loose seal)
ECU(DTC codes not healing)
Secondary Resonator ( blown inner cap)
Throttle bodies (started sticking out of the clear blue at 11K miles)

and is awaiting updated
Front Brake scoop bracket
Rear Brake Res cover

Rock solid other wise just watch the chain tension( a tad too tight is better than too lose) and don't over tighten anything especially the rear axle nut.

With the suspension set properly and an extra click of rear preload, the RX resist power wheelies unless you chop and go, but be careful quickshifting even with an electronic unit with it pinned as the front will grab a little air in the first 3 gears even if you're leaned pretty far over. I don't like the SX because they apparently fill the front wheels with helium at the factory. IF you keep from hooning it all the time you're a way better man than me. The 1190 ROCKS!

I wonder if that VERY low recommended interval (6500 miles, right?) was just a CYA for EBR until enough of these bikes could get out there and accumulate miles? It doesn't seem like anything is THAT different from the 1125 to require checking that much more often.

If you want it get it.

The downsides would be resale (not an issue if you plan to keep it) & parts. There will always be a way to get a part, just maybe not right away. You can still get parts for Vincent Commando if you want it bad enough.

Because of the parts concern (and my fear of being without a bike for even a day) I would probably have a second bike though.

Thanks men. The higher VIN# was definitely one of the important things on my list.

Has anyone had any issues with getting or keeping insurance?

Part defects/issues are definitely a major concern of mine. Especially if I buy a bike sight unseen and have it shipped to me. Definitely a big risk.

About the chain tension. I've seen three different 1190's with what I think is an excessive amount of grease and metal flakes spewed around the side stand. Could that be caused by excessive chain tension?

What is considered a high VIN? what is the range of VINs?

You will see grease from the lube that the chain manufacturer uses, and it has a tendency to splatter. This is normal.
You will also see some metal shavings under the front sprocket cover if you remove it after some miles are put on. This is also normal.
As Classax mentions, monitor chain tension and rear wheel alignment and you should be fine.

Yep, Snacktoast is spot on with the grease.

Metal flakes anywhere near the chain and I would inspect the chainrub:

Is the center guide warn away?
Is the rub intact on all sides
Is the rub intact at the rear of the swingarm.

Too loose a chain for even a few minutes at speed and it can eat the rub and be into the swingarm. This bike does better with a chain that's on the tight side not the loose side. Tell any attending techs the tension in measured on TOP not the sag at the bottom. Other than that the bike Kills!!!!!

What is considered a high VIN? what is the range of VINs?

I can't really answer that.

All I can say is my 1190RX is VIN 269. That and I was told that 2014 Domestic 1190RX production wouldn't reach the VIN I was targeting (which was 1313).

Mine had the LFL on when I picked it up. I believe the entire fuel pump was replaced to resolve that issue. A couple of intermittent error codes, which a replacement ECM straightened out, was the only other early-ownership issue I experienced.

One thing that all the 'late to the party' owners will likely miss out on is the exhaust finish kit and ECM. That's the way the bike should've been from the factory...

I'm still more than pleased with the bike,

...the exhaust finish kit and ECM. That's the way the bike should've been from the factory...

But it couldn't and wouldn't have been since it did not pass noise emissions with that configuration.
Thank you EPA.

Snack -

It was much more than just the noise according to the discussion I had with the guys at EBR.

But again...thanks EPA..!

That (loud) and more power, ie; +14 hp at the wheel. Still running about 5 weeks behind at this point, there will be more of these out there soon as the orders for them keep coming in. 2 this week and 2 the week or so before. I guess the weight savings plus the extra power offsets the loudness factor some.

Does it work with the stock ECU? Or does it need the race ECM and Tip kit minus the tips? I will too place an order.

My next door neighbor would love that at 4:30 am...!

Actually when I was driving my CR daily, I'd roll it down the street a little where the area is a little more open before I hit the starter button. It has a Barker muffler on it.

I think they keep these in stock, map is on their website. Make sure they load it with the map for the pipe, it runs just fine for me.
