Denise's "mystery" purchase back at the Chevron? stocking hats! actually, she was in the market for "Santa" hats but a pair of matching red head-heaters was good enough. : )

cold enough, in fact, that gloves were mandatory.
HOW cold? well, we'll certainly get no sympathy from SOME of you, but it was 39 degrees and seemed might bitter to my CaliBoy constitution.

pretty cool, tho, a 28-degree temp drop in just over 14 miles. : )

what looks like clouds down below is actually the much-hated San Joaquin Soup, a perpetual fog bank that takes up residence in the valley this time of year. SO glad we're up here. : )

and, finally, back to the 'Dome, with less than an hour and a half - and a whopping 23.1 miles - under our belts.

Court, it certainly wasn't an EPIC ride, in terms of time or distance, but you'll understand that it was a GLORIOUS little break from our work day, we had an absolute blast, and we did it all for you.

ok, we did it a little bit for us, too. : )

ride to lean,

Those pix of Greenhorn remind me of coming to visit last winter on the Katana. Except then I was trying to ride on the sand 'cause the rest of the road was covered with snow and ice. Me being a devout coward and all, that made for an interesting ride!

Condolences re the little guy.

It's 10 degrees actual here in Kansas City and I feel warm all over after laughing the morning away reading Ferris' and Al's silly stories. Glad that someone is getting to ride. 'scuse me while I go put the tender on the ole S1.

And that's a COLD soup too.
Bout as cold as the top of the Greenhorn was most days till around noon or so.
Rode up to Lancaster Saturday. Had to stop a few times to squeegee the face shield wile still in town. Dressed for Bakersfield and was quite a bit toasty up at the pass.
68 and bright at the Dome must suck Jerry!
Happy Holidays everyone!

D and Thee:

Thanks for the super coolish pics. Wx here today is in the 50's, but wetosity kept me on 4.

The other day, and I refuse to believe chicanery is not involved, the mere threat of 3/64" of snowy dust was enough to prompt the only city in the world with 64,000+ garbage trucks doubling as salt spreaders, to coat Gotham with a 5/8" protective layer of CaCL doubtless purchased from a brother in law....geeeesh.

How's the holiday traffic as Casa de twoofus? Take a gander at this, shot from the moving trucktor last night, and see if you can guess...

A) Lake Awayfromitall, CA

B) Centeroftheuniverse, NY

???

LIE toward the Queens Midlife Tunnel

I'm dying for a "dose o' dome"!

Dome.....Dome on the range.....

Happy Holilicious!

...and see if you can guess...
makes you wonder how it can be called an "expressway"??? i guess "C"! : )

to provide a sense of cross-country balance, i suppose, i present MY version of the Long Island Expressway, shot a few moments ago off our deck. if you look REAL close, you'll still be hard pressed to pick out a car:
1
for the anal among us (me! me!), and for geographical perspective, the lights in the foreground constitute the bulk of Wofford Heights, California. Isabella Lake shimmers in the twilight, and at the far end of the lake, looking due south, you can ALMOST see some of the lights from the town of Lake Isabella (most of which are blocked by Juniper Point jutting out from the western shoreline just beyond WH.)

in the far distance, in the notch in the mountains where the sunset appears the brightest, is the beginning of the Lion's Trail, some of the coolest, gnarliest, twistiest riding around. just to the right of the LT is the Lower Kern River Canyon and Hwy 178, where Unibear likes to taunt the CHP on his Thunderbolt. : )

just out of frame to the right is the Bostrom, subject of much of this thread, just out of frame to the left is Hwy 178 east towards the Mojave Desert, some of the smoothest, highest speed stuff in these parts (including a mountain pass ascent that'll leave your hard parts gasping for air), and approximately directly behind me in this photo is the Upper Kern River Canyon, leading up to the Western Divide Hwy and beyond. most of this is closed by snow right now, but it's an Oktoberfast favorite every year.

Court, i know you've ridden much of this area before, but i also know it's been a long time. you ARE, in other words, slightly overdue.

Happy Hooligandays, from our winter to yours. : )
