pardon the image quality - it's the shooting hand-held at maxdigizoom thing - but i thought the colors were worth it.

a little further up the Loop. the scenery was begging for some late afternoon lighting, but was spectacular nonetheless.

Wow!!Really dig that shot with the Strom in the middle of the pic...really brings out the angularity of its design. The shot after makes me want to hike down into that forest and go jump in a lake....(hate mouldy cattle guards though!)
Awesome shots Bro!

thanks EBear! i was at first bummed about the lighting in the three-shot series above, as about the time i got the scene framed the foreground went dark. i waited several moments, to no avail, then decided to grab some pix anyway, and i'm very pleased with how the subdued foreground contrasts with the brightly-lit background.

if you check out the oncoming lane in the "not-so-grate" shot you'll note several cow pies just this side of the apex. Nebo Loop was AWESOME, but there were plenty of landmines - some fresh, some aged to perfection - just waiting to take down an unsuspecting rider.

i, er, would have done a "crap shoot", just to add to the story, but figured after seeing my underwear hanging in my motel room you guys would probably be pretty shell-shocked by now and didn't need any additional visual trauma. : )

Ferris...Outstanding Pic's! Thanks for the memories.

Am beginning to doubt my sanity for staying here in Wisconsin and am really homesick for So Cal and the Southwest.

Additionally, am really thinking an Adventure Touring bike will be my next purchase. Especially, since HDI is never going to make the Super StreetTracker I lust for.

thanks Outrider, much appreciated! i've not had the pleasure of touring Wisconsin - certainly there must be roads and sites there that would make the rest of us drool? that said, it's probably tough to beat the SW for quality and quantity of pavement, altho Deal's Gap and the Blue Ridge Parkway has sure got me hungry for more. : )

Ferris, Love the trees and all the color! WOW! I bet that is what the road from Estacada, to Detroit Lake Oregon looks like about now. Also, the 3rd picture reminds me of St. Helens. Sure hope we get to ride up there for SPLASH 2005.
Love the pics, hope you have lots more.

thanks Loni! i got lucky with Nebo Road, as it just so happened to be "on my way" (as per the "JB2 Follow Your Front Wheel Method Of Motorcycle Travel" : ) ), and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip.

as for "lots more" pix? well, at this point in time i was about 48 hours from pulling into my garage...

...so enjoy the images while you can. : )

Jerry: For whom do you work that allows you such liberal time off? And, more importantly, are they hiring??

Thang: thanks for the thanks! : )

as for the time off, i'm self-employed and home-based (i pound a keyboard for a living), so if you're referring to the time i spend posting pix and responding to posts during a "normal" workday, well, i AM working, just bouncing back and forth between computer screens.

if you're referring to this particular road trip, being able to take three and a half weeks off without having to ask "permission" is one of the obvious bennies of being self-employed. i worked a lot of 12-14 hour days leading up to this ride, and also liquidated an investment or two (remember the Thong?) to pull this gig off.

however, the most IMPORTANT ingredient in this venture, by far, is the lovely lady sitting to my right here in our office. without Denise's support and encouragement, and i mean this quite literally, i couldn't be what i be and do what i do. : )

i spent about three hours doing Nebo from end to end, and saw about four cars (and one other motorcycle) in that time. what a golden treasure this road turned out to be.

wish i could show you more photos from here, but i had spent WAY too much time doing the Loop as it was, and knew that soon i was going to pay a price for my photographic infatuation.

as promised: looking east across Utah Lake, back toward where i'd "just" been (it took several hours to get from there to here), i.e. the Uinta National Forest and the Nebo Mountain Range. Mount Nebo, directly above the back of the 'Strom, is impressive at 11,928 feet.

if you ever find yourself in this area, especially in the fall, do the Nebo Loop.

and take lots of pix. : )

this is still Utah Lake, and beyond the bike is Provo, home of, among other things, Brigham Young University.

against all common sense and logic i pondered at great length the thought of climbing this hill with the bike. there's a great photo of the lake to be had up there, i reasoned, and there was at least a rudimentary path to follow from the occasional four wheeled assault that obviously took place.

in the end, even my world famous enthusiasm couldn't overcome my less publicized (and seldom seen) restraint, and i, well, let's be honest: i chickened out.

i THINK i coulda made it.

but...if i DIDN'T, it'd probably be a painful attempt (both physically and financially), and i was still a long ways from home.

for once, cooler heads prevailed. : )
