Yeah okay . . . I have a reason for being here. But, when I saw what was going on across the street from the hotel . . I sneaked away for a bit.

Hey . . . you would have too.

Amazing stuff, Court! Thank you. Houston is really an amazing place. So much goes on that amazing exhibits/shows like this can go unnoticed. Thanks for posting and welcome to Houston.

Court,

Very nice photography! Neat cars and bikes.

On behalf of our friend Tom, the "Road Thing", "but where are the girls in boots?" : )

A visit to Houston puts you within striking distance of the Ranchito. The Canfield Wing happens to be vacant this weekend. You've got my number...

Man oh man am I in trouble today. Texas is a funny place . . . they have rules, traditions and convention and they ain't bending them for a visiting New Yorker.

In retrospect it's my own damn fault . . . for now calling Blake and The Thing and engaging "native escort services".

Here's the deal . . . . I fly into town for the wedding of a good friend. It's a high foot affair with 12 bridesmaid (a visual, no matter how cognitively lacking, festival in their own right) and 12 groomsmen. The chance to watch some of the greatest entertainment in the world . . .the age old "college kid vs. free booze" battle. I knew the after-party at the ZaZa, starting at midnight would be a bacchanal puke fest.

But . . no matter that.

My own problems would have me in trouble long before the 4th course.

Look . . . Texans speak funny.

Real funny.

I could have sworn the gal told me that appropriate attire was a Tuxspeedo.

Sure . . . given my portly configuration in my sunset years I was hesitant. But a chance to break out the leopard print lycra was too good to pass up.

I hadn't been there 5 minutes before the armed guard (required at all events in Houston) started hassling me. I wasn't up for a fight with 3 armed dudes . . . so I grabbed a silver platter of crab cakes and bolted down a street in downtown Houston.

Forgiving? . . . NOT

From the looks on their faces you'd think they'd just seen a scantily clad New Yorker.

Anyway . . . .I take the rented trolley back to the ZaZa . . .a bootie rock n' roll hotel and am commiserating with one of the gals at the concierge desk who starts talking . . of all things . . about her sex life.

She tells me that her and the hubby had been struggling to recreate the fire and passion from the early days of the relationship.

One morning he tells her . . . . "Sweets, I've found the answer" and goes on to tell her that he's just popped 2-100mg Viagra tabs.

Oh my goodness . . . I exclaimed.

It was terrible she continued . . . I'm mortified. We were just getting ready to have coffee when he tossed me on the table, ripped my clothes off tossing them all over the floor and had his way with me on the table. It was the worst experience ever.

Wait . . . he took that much Viagra and the sex was terrible?

No. . . she shot back . . the sex was GREAT . . . .but I'll never be able to show my face in that Starbucks again.

Yeah. . .everyone's got problems.

It gets worse.

About 15 minutes ago I'm going through TSA Pre-Check sporting my TWIC card and Homeland Security credentials when the guy pulls my bag off the line (some of you recall last years tragic loss of 3 Leatherman tools in d3 days) and asks "is this your bag?" Yep. Anything sharp in it . . . nope. . . and I rattle off the litany of things in the bag . . .emergncy locator beacons, tactical flashlights, charges and so forth.

Just as I am half way through a list of chargers and photos gear . . . the guy draws out a folded 6" buck knife.

YIKES !

Holy shit ! . .. I shouted. "my letter opener".

Remember . . we're in Texas. The guy immediately broke out laughing. I . . consumed with thoughts of how this slipped by security coming out of NYC and the nightmare of how long I'd have been in jail . . . if it'd been found in NYC . . . took a while to join him in his laughter.

"Wanna take it back and check it?"

"Nope, toss it in the bin".

Anyway . . . . here I sit in the United Club a beat and defeated man. I am leaving Texas without my weapons, publicly scorned for my tuxspeedo and having eating not one chicken fried steak (yeah, I saw a guy ask for one medium rare) or a bite of BBQ and not one mile logged in a pickup truck.

I've no choice but to return.

It's been a hell of a trip . . ..

"That's not a letter opener. THIS is a letter opener!"

Nice thing about the speedo is no zipper to worry about. So overall, not a terrible choice for you professor.

Ya know . . . .

I love Texas.

Things were going great. I was meeting folks I'd never met and, without exception, each of them was interesting, cordial and amazing.

I took great comfort in being, for the first time in a long time, somewhere that I wasn't teased about my accent. I was tossing gratuitous "ya'll" greetings just well . . cause I could.

Just as I'm thinking "life don't get any better" I got the notes from Road Thing and Blake . . . arriving within 2 minutes of each other . . . as I'm standing outside the Julia Ideson Building (an amazing piece of architecture.

I was reminded of exactly WHY I like Texas . . . . like the best things in life . . . . I like Texas because of Texans.

I've just landed back in Gotham . . . hanging here on the balcony, prepping for the Sunday nap and playing a new Taylor 12-string, and savoring the memories of a spectacular trip.

The phone rang . . . whilst riding in the taxi from LaGuardia . . and it looks like a follow up trip is imminent.

I can't wait.

Thank you guys for making a good trip GREAT.

Badweb people are amazing.
