Thought this should come back from the Archive. If you haven't sent this in you might want to, just so we have a little organization. (Not enought to matter, just enought to be uhh, help those in charge.

OKAY....boys and girls !

Time to start polling the troops so that we can be formulating a rough head count for the upcoming event.

I've gotta tell you...when this idea came up, I liked it but never dream it would be so wel received or so well planned. The idea of a "Team Elves Social Event" to augment the "Racing Event" seemed cool. A chance for ELVES from near and far to gather with no "have to be at the line in 10 minutes" pressure. Just fellowship and fun.

The only contraint, in the beginning, was that someone had to be willing to "carry the water" to allow Aaron to be free to focus on the RR-1000 for the years 2001-A Salt Oddessy effort. I've seen good and I've seen better....but, frankly, Kim, Cheryl and Phil stepped up and have planned what threatens to be a classic among Buell events. Coolest part, like the Bonneville event, is that it, once again, showcases how much talent we have among our numbers.

Anyway....time to start raising the hands. Even it's tentative, it's gonna help to know.

I'm gonna have to lay this one off on Kim as well, so let's make it easy and have everyone just cut and paste the following and e-mail it to KIM.

Name:
Year/Model:
Coming from:
Staying at: (if known at this time)
Arriving on: (date)
Leaving on: (date)
Emergency Contact Info:

Trust me...having been through this a number of times having ONE person, with ALL the info in one place takes tons of pressure off.

Can't wait to meet all of you!

Court

I will ditto the 'pay for it' business. I used to do a dual sport ride in Steamboat. The organizer said that it cost him around $5,000 of his own cash to organize it. That is a lot of dough for someone to cough up for other people to have a good time.
As a long time organizer of events I got real tired of people wanting gold treatment on a copper price tag, then bitching because something wasn't up to their standard.

Ok Folks,

Be afraid, be very afraid.
The trek westward has officially begun.
I have the first confirmed sighting of a vagabond Bueller on their first leg of a journey that will (after much meandering)wind up in mountains of Colorado.

If sighted, no need to approach with caution as he is a great guy. How great you ask? Great enough to make a detour to Minneapolis from Milwaukee to drop of a spare set of RKA saddle bags for me to use when I head out! MikeJ, you're a hell of a guy. Thanks.

Here's a pic of his bike when he arrived at my house (before unloading the spare bags).

Mike Jaquet "Mikej"

Court, If you look REAL close you may be able to see the Team Elves patch on his cap. No need to assess additional fines for Mike!

Here's a pic of just his bike. A bit clearer I hope.

Mikej's Bike

Anyway, the journey has started, let the fun begin!

On my way soon,

Brad

MikeJ is hitting CO on the "return" route. Kinda doing a lazy loop thing.

One more thing.

What you can't see in the pic is the heat and humidity. It was in the low 90's with humidity not far behind.
Felt like Orlando in July. Ya move ya sweat! Ya moves a little more ya sweats lots more! Very easy to dehydrate in this stuff.

A word to follow travelers, drink lots of fluids. It'll help keep your head clear and ward of cramps.

Especially true for folks heading to the mountains. Lots of water (beer and pop don't count)helps with the altitude thing.

Brad:

I hate to sound the pundit, but I can't see the TEAM ELVES patch.

Look.....having ridden Buells as I have, no sad tale of heat and humidity coupled with long days in the saddle is going to evoke any sympathy from me.

Next person to see this guy either send a better picture of tell him I am going to assess a FINE.

Seriously, great pictures and they're stirring great memories of 31 days on the road, of which 30 were over 100....the 31st brought 4" or rain between Minneapolis /St. Paul (where I tried to make an impresive exit with the Marchisini wheels chained to each others - \does NOT work) and 2 warnings from the HP to leave the road.

Brad-
I bet you really got pumped to go when you saw Mike pull up. Nothing like a good road trip to clear the mind.
What part of the cities do you live? My parents live in Bloomington on the West side of Bush Lake near the ski jump. My brother in law lives in Eden Prairie and owns the Kennedy Transmission in Apple Valley.
I get up there several times a year. After we ride to Colorado together maybe we could run up to Park Rapids where my parents also have a lake cabin.

Mike,

When MikeJ called from a predetermined Super America, (wrong one at first, I wasn't too clear on the correct exit- only avout 10 miles extra---sorry about that Mike)I went to get him to guide him the rest of the way. I pull into the SA and see his bike off to the side. Quite the sight!!
Mike called it the Buell Bagger Barge. After looking at the above, you can see why. Looked much less barge like after he unloaded the RKA's.

I live in a NW burb called Maple Grove.
If I find out you headed to Park Rapids and at least didn't arrange to stop and say hi, I would really have to wonder what kind of BWB'er you are! You would have to pass within 3/4 of a mile of my house to get to PR!

I'm pinging you offline with Tuesday plans.

You definately have the pumped thing nailed. I'm really starting to hear the siren song, that call of the road thing.

What time on Thursday will the rides leave?
Trying to lock in travel plans with IAMike and launch times for Thursday may come into play.

Blzm2,
We're thinking 10am start times on the rides. With the exception of the Six Pass/Silverton ride on friday. This one will start at 9am due to the length of the ride.

Brad,

SteveH who hangs here quite a bit, a close friend of mine (Tom, AKA Riendog) that rides a 2000 S3 and another guy that he works with (Mike, AKA Grozzie) that just bought a new Falco 1.5 months ago, are coming. Mike/Tom don't hang here on the bulletin boards much, too busy working their asses off at an ASIC startup. Those guys need this vacation worse than I do, they're ready to rage. None of us are quite hooligans, though when I'm on my S1W I can't seem to keep the front wheel planted all the time. I'm much more civilized on the S3, it doesn't beg to loft it's front end daily like the S1W does. I'm looking forward to someone showing me how it's done on an S3 at Camp Hale!

What are the "times" for all the other stuff beyond the ride start times?

I'm Day-tripping it from Boulder and I want to know when stuff is happening so I don't miss it, and what time I have to wake up!!

Brad,
We'll talk it over on the way out but I'm thinking of riding up Big Thompson Canyon to Estes Park on the way there. Then drop down to Breckenridge on backroads.
On Saturday we should probably do the Steamboat ride then head out through the Poudre River Canyon to Ft. Collins.
Even if the traffic is heavy the scenery is worth it. I've driven both in cars and always wished I was on the bike instead.
Ralph is frantically working on a brick driveway and wanting to finish before we leave. Since he is a teacher he has all day to work on it. When I saw him yesterday he was finishing the dig out process.

I have a two room suite reserved for Silverton and do not need the second room. By sharing a bathroom with me you can save some CA$H. Your share would be $100 for Friday and Saturday night. The room will sleep 2, husband and wife (or 2 REALLY close friends). Shoot me an e-mail if interested.
