Some of my "out the window" shots from yesterday . . . I seem to get about 50 pretty good shots a day. I love my commute. The new truck has a G12 Canon dash cam mount and I shot a 7 minute video, headed to work the other day . . fun to come around the corner and just have the deer sit there and watch you . . then a mile later 2 or 3 turkeys . . . all with the NYC skyline just beyond the horizon. Well kept secret . . . .                                           | ||

It's fun stuff . . . . I love my new job . . . This is where I "work" every day . . . .just me, the Timber Rattlers, Bog Turtles and Indiana bats. . . never dreamed, at this age, I'd be wearing snake gaiters and spending entire days with the transfer case in low range. :-) There are worse jobs . . . (and apparently better . . .neighbor just got a new Porsche 918)                                                            | ||

More amazing is how few city slickers know hoe to drive 4 wheel drive . . . . Fun stuff. . .headed out now to start scoping out landing zones . . . the rain today will only increase the fun! | ||

I considered myself a good "slippery conditions" driver with both front wheel drive and rear wheel drive cars... not only could I get through just about anything, but I could often use the low traction to my advantage (with either type of car). Its fun. The first time I drove a true 4 wheel drive vehicle on slippery conditions, I was *very* glad I was familiarizing myself with its characteristics in a parking lot and not on the street. I could deal with loosing the front. I could deal with loosing the back. But loosing the front and back simultaneously was something I wasn't used to. 4wd is helpful if you are stuck and want to get unstuck, but it's a headache if you are going and want to control where you are going. The 2000 Saab 9-3 (still the hatchback) was a weird one also. It was front wheel drive, but the back would often break loose before the front would going around a corner, even when the front was under power. Probably some sort of uber-sweedish traction control magic... | ||

When both my sons were learning to drive I had a Taurus SHO (front wheel drive) and a Mustang GT (rear wheel drive). They both got countless hours in the snow covered parking lot of a shopping center until they could not only do it . . but understand what they were doing. Good stuff. The 3 Saab 9-3's that I spent a lot of time driving were excellent in poor traction conditions. | ||

Those are beautiful offices to work in. It's it amazing that we can actually find jobs that let you work in places like that everyday, and I get paid to work with tractors everyday! | ||

I start and end my day in 4 wheel drive low range . . . and to get from the office to the site takes me through some of the most gorgeous (BMW films commercials there) roads in the county. I'll be alternating between days in the truck and days in the helicopter until late 2016 . . . then off to CT and the Boston area for the next one.             | ||

I was thinking of you last Thursday Court...  This was a utility path through a riding area, this (the pipeline) and the powerline run behind it were great hillclimbs. There was a crew working the powerlines further along the route. Amazing how much weight those towers must hold for those long "hilltop to hilltop" spans. | ||

Very nice Pics, enjoyed them very much! Love the fall colors I have a friend that checks on power lines and pipelines, but does it from his helicopter. Looks like a great job. | ||

Some duplicates . . . I made a return trip to look at the Barn For Sale . . . then I made the mistake, when leaving Columbia, of trying to get home . . . . it was an interesting 3-1/2 hour trip that included protests, blocked tunnels . .buses hitting cars . . and a 2 hour delay, a bit after midnight . . as highway crews places an overhead truss. Never a good idea when you see folks walking around on the interstate in the wee hours. I'm going to go to the Hamptons and hide . . Happy Thanksgiving from NYC !           This gal driving the bus was very aggressive when I was next to her on 10th Avenue. I make the turn to enter the tunnel (it was about 90 minutes of waiting in line with the protests, the "helix" being closed on the other side and traffic at one lane starting at 11:00pm) and there she is parked against the back of this gals car. The bus driver keeps honking, after hitting the car hard enough to dislodge the headlight and the woman refuses to move (not sure I blame her) . . the bus door flies open . . out comes the driver with the requite iPhone camera . . .taking pictures . .holding her wallet out and yelling "just take the money bitch . . .all yawl want is money". Bad scene and I was so glade I didn't have the added hour of being behind the accident.   I felt bad for this poor guy . . I sat next to him for 5 minutes on 35th street watching him do the "Hog Dance" . . .slowly stroking the hair . . putting on the helmet . . adjusting the jacket and pulling the gloves on like a runway model . . . . after the show . . he straddles the bike . . . and just as I am pulling away I hear the familiar "click, click, click" and see the dim yellow headlight.                                     |
