still no bow for me this year... just have to go with the second season shotgooon again. stepdad usually gets a landowner tag or 2 for me. i REALLY need to bag atleast one, but more if i can and have the tags.

this is going to be a thin winter at the no_rice household after the state so graciously just doubled my child support going into the slooow winter season at the bike shop. probably our biggest grocery expense is meat, we burn through alot(even with me eating ramen noodles everyday for lunch at work!), so i need to stock the freezer... lol. we even told my mom she could get us a cow for xmas! her only response was "alive or dead?"

come oooonnnn big deer! i even gave up worrying about buck or doe way back, i just bag the meatiest ones i can find! (although i suppose i wouldnt pass up one of them there trophy bucks you guys keep finding : )

maybe i'll rig up my gopro this year and catch some film

and Dave, some day i will get a bow from ya. i think i can still control my shakes long enough to get a clean shot...

Well I'm back in the woods!
Went Mon morn before work and didn't see a single deer.
I went to my lease on Tuesday morning and found 3 out of 4 of my tree stands were stolen during trespasser season(shotgun season) rotten SOBs. Finally got to the 4th stand and only one left there about daylight. I was so pissed I only hunted for an hour then it was off to talk to the land owner and then to the cop shop to report it.
Can't hunt weds mornings
Went out this morning to a different spot and saw nothing.

I get to hunt Christmas Eve and all day Christmas Day though!

that sucks dave! hope you come up with an idea of who it may be, as unlikely as that is.

got my deer. caught the lungs, but didnt get the heart this year. one nice clean shot though(even though it was with a shotgun at about 145 yards). would have gone out and filled another tag if i hadnt gotten sick enough to miss 2 days of work. dont remember the last time i missed work from being sick.

Yeah, I've been rounding up some names of the people I believe did it.
The time will come.
There are 18 people that hunt in the group that continues to trespass on my lease every year.
Tuesday I will be talking to the deputy investigating and see what he has done/come up with. I also have the DNR involved. Some of these guys "might" just get a visit to check their freezers for untagged deer?
They would be real wise to never let me catch them on that property again, EVER.
Too bad these guys give the maybe 5% of shotgun hunters that aren't a trespassing/stealing POS, a bad name.

Urban archery season here in SW Virgina. I've loosed two arrows: one was a clean miss and the other a classic DaveS double lung shot. Here's to filling tags this year.Best of luck to you stick and stringers. NUTS

Here in Virginia on this side of the Blue Ridge we're only allowed one per day. But our Urban Archery season starts September 1 and goes until March 30!
Just got a new piece of land to hunt as well. It's 20 acres and a 20 yard walk from my mailbox. I passed a six point(twice), a spike and several yearlings. That nosey doe was doing a good job keeping out of the firing line.

Cardinal rule of hunting #36: don't stand up to look for deer at 100yds without clearing the area 20yds around you.

Went out yesterday with Tammy's nephew. He got busted by a doe.
Went this morning to a different spot and didn't see a single deer!

shot two more doe yesterday.
Pretty good day!
The one I shot right before dark even did me the favor of running to the top of a hill and going down in the field I could drive my ATV to!

Double lung-ed a doe last night, ran 50 yds downhill and it was over.

Mildly disturbing is the fact that my G5 T3 mechanical only deployed 2 of 3 blades. Sure wish I could get my QAD Exodus broadheads to fly true. NUTS

if an Exodus won't fly true something is wonky. Where do they hit compared to your field points?

2-3 inches High and right; at even 15 yards.
My setup includes a Parker bow, Accel sight, QAD rest, and Tru-ball release. All made right here in Virginia and the Exodus would've been the icing on the cake.

lower your nock/loop about a 1/16" or raise your rest the same, NOT BOTH
Do you have the good QAD or the Hunter model?
Is it timed correctly
No fletch contact is a must

Move rest 1/16" to the left

Only fix one thing at a time, get the left and right, then go to the height or visa versa

Dave I have the good QAD model. What I don't have is a pro shop that knows what they are doing. I'd gladly purchase all of my equipment from a quality pro shop that has a range on-site and the ability to help loyal customers solve issues.

What's the cost of a DaveS outfitted doe hunt? And would you put me into a Matthews package? Beware 31"+ draw.

DaveS,
Picked up a pack of Rocky Mountain Warrior fixed blades and they are flying true. They impact an inch higher than the fieldpoints at 25yds and I can tolerate that until the season is over and I can find a good bow shop.
The rut is getting heated up here, I've seen a 4 point running does the last few evenings. His elders should be fired up soon. NUTS

Well, it would take you 4 years to draw an Iowa tag. If you do I can put you on deer.
We'd need to go with a Monster 7 to get 31" draw.
Bare bow is 899.00

Tag is in hand. Rut should be in full swing. I'm trying a different tactic this year.... stay away from my stand all together until I get in it to hunt.
I did re cut my shooting lanes and mowed the grass down about 6 weeks ago and checked all the straps... should be good to go

Can't wait!

Lol.
Been slow for me
Missed a doe last Sunday night, hit a branch that was between me and her.
She tortured Tammy's nephew for over a half an hour, never quite coming within range.
Be out tomorrow and Fri morning before work then I have 3 weekends off while the gun season bangs away. Be back at on Dec 17th-Jan 10th.
Plus I can still hunt the urban hunt with my bow during gun season so I will probably go shoot a couple more doe there.

Now this is one of those deals that would never happen for me in a million years.

1 shot, 2 deer dead.
My buddy was hunting down in KY when he saw this buck chasing this doe.
They stopped running long enough for him to get a shot off. The bullet went thru the neck of the buck and then thru the neck of the doe and dropped them both.
He is going to have them mounted together....
lucky bastard!

Done hunting until next Friday.
Work today and tomorrow, then it's off to WI for the Mathews Dealer Show to man the Infinito Bowhunting Safari booth!
