In 2003, at only 7 years old Cody was the youngest ever road racing license holder with Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association (OMRRA). Cody had an amazing racing season in 2003 and walked away with two PBRN West Coast National Championships, OMRRA Class Championship (youngest rider ever to win a class championship in the organizations history) and placed 3rd place overall in the overall points championship which included all of the pocketbike classes including the adult riders. Quite an accomplishment for a little guy. Cody was also able to travel to Canada to race and was a registered road racing member with Canadian Motorcycle Association (CMA). Funny enough, when Cody's road racing license came in the mail he wanted to know if that meant he could drive the car now! Not Quite - but he was sure exciting to watch on the track. In late October Cody traveled to Mrytle Beach SC with his Dad to race at an East Coast National event. The competition was much more fierce and Cody walked away with a 4th place finish and much gained riding knowledge.

The 2004 racing season is at about the half way mark and Cody, still sporting #8 on his Polini GP2 Steel has been doing great. At the present time he remains undefeated, however he has had to work very hard to maintain that position. His parents also recently purchased for him a purpose built 6 speed MiniGP Ozbike with a derbi bottom end and a metrakit top end. The bike pushes 70 mph down the front straight - that is right out of the box with no mods! Cody has been working very hard to get comfortable with his new ride, while continuing to focus on his pocketbike racing. Cody has already completed one race with the YSR's out at the MAC track racing with the likes of Julio and Chris Taylor. Cody does not yet pose a threat to them, but may in the near future! : )

Cody is working to defend his 2003 championship with hopes of a repeat in 2004.

Look for great things from young rider Cody Wood : )

Kimberlie,
We have that picture of Cody on the blue #8 bike on the fridge - next to Aaron Yates on the blue #20 in an (old) tire ad where Yates is dragging his ELBOW! - the resemblance is striking! : )

When Cody was over at Destination, some of the Harley mechanics were commenting that Cody is a typical 8 year old until someone talks bikes or racing. He likes to ask folks what they ride and what kind mod's their bike has. He likes to talk about the bikes he rides and the tracks he races on. Like other competitive athletes, he works hard on his chosen sport, but he'll still play Lago's with his kid brother too.

Yes it was pretty funny, he loves to talk about racing lines etc. He is a great kid who definitley "thinks inside his helmet"..... His sponsor Jeff at Digital Sport Video says that all the time, that he can see Cody thinking and looking for an opportunity to get around the lap traffic in order to defend his line and keep the 2nd place guy off.

Denise, so funny you should mention Aaron Yates, you know Cody has an HJC signed sponsorship and wears the Aaron Yates - Yikes helmet. Cody was suppose to get an opportunity through HJC to meet the other HJC sponsored riders at Laguna and he has really been looking forward to it, but unfortunately it doesn't look like that will come together as we have not heard back from the AMA rider rep. Hopefully there will be another opportunity. : )

BTW- if any of you get an opportunity to see FASTER the movie - it is a must! Cody watches that daily and has all kinds of stuff committed to memory. He is so funny the other night when I was putting him to bed he started telling me all about John Hopkins at 12 yrs old on a 125 beating people quite a bit older than him on 600's. He went on to tell me about John Ulrich etc.- I had to have him clarify for me, since I was obviously not in the know! Well now I have watched the movie myself and know first hand what he is talking about. He talks all the time about Biaggi and how he wrecks so often trying to catch Rossi - that he is just riding over his ability etc. Funny how they pick up on some things at such a young age.

Well I could talk forever about Cody and riding, so I will close for now and bring more updates as they happen. : )

Cody is a real motorcyclist, he's got it in his blood. When we are at the track and he's racing I can see the serious concentration on his face and the determination to win. Him and Chris get together out at the track and talk about lines, passing, and motorcycle stuff in general. I sit and listen, and I hear Cody asking questions, and Chris answering the best he can. Cody just wants all the info he can get, he wants to learn, and be a WINNER! Along with winning Cody also talks to the other kids out there and gives them advise. He will go after a race without being told and say "Good race" and give a knuckles to the other racers. I think Cody is someone we will be watching in 8-10 yrs on TV with the big guys. I must say he's a great kid with a good attitude, and a lot of love for the sport. Just wait til the little brother gets old enough to race. Cameron is going to he hell on wheels!

Luv Ya Cody!

Cody attended his first group ride this weekend with a pack of Buell's, Triumph, Honda's, Harley's - 32 bikes in all. He was mounted two up with his Dad - Mike Wood on a Triumph Daytona. He was so excited and looking forward to seeing the mountain from a different perspective. His ride was cut short when his Mom on a Triumph Speed Triple managed to go to wide in a turn allowing a squirrel to win a game of chicken. Kimberlie displayed an example of target fixation at it's finest and also why a speed triple is not meant to double as a dual sport. Good thing Cody spends a lot of time at the track and has witnessed a lot of accidents, he handled himself so well and was not shaken by the incident. He was so kind and knew just what to say, like:

Mom: I'm so stupid I can't believe I did that, I know better, blah blah blah.

Cody: Mom you are not as good as me and Dad, but you are still a good rider. Besides there are not very many girls who ride sport bikes, so I figure that makes you a one of a kind!

Well if Cody keeps up with those kind of lines on and off the track he will be good with the ladies and also good on the podium - full of all kinds of good things to share! : )

Look for more great lines and some good results to share as Cody's racing season continues, with his next race on August 7th.

Cody and Mike left this morning at 5am for Vegas! : ) Cody will be racing with about 10 other kids in his class just based on pre-registrations. I told him that in Vegas there were more lights there than on a Christmas Tree and he said, "no way Mom - you're just joking right". He will be in for a BIG surprise. Keep them in your thoughts that they have safe travel, Cody does well and most of all that they have fun.

Thank you for all who donated to help make this a reality for Cody.

Kimberlie

ps... Cody's website was taken out by a hacker who deleted his site and two other motorcycle related websites. We are in the process of rebuilding it, so if you have been checking it out and wondered that is what is going on.

Well I talked to Cody and he was so excited. He was invited to compete in the pocketbike side car event with the local owner/dealer. Cody was the monkey and had the best time hanging out of the little car. Sounds like that might be our next racing purchase. Hmmmm, good thing uncle Bobby is so skinny - how about that team - Code Red and Bobby G?

More to come once they get home and I have more details.

It has been a long time since I posted, so I thought I would share Cody's 2004 year end results. We spent a total of 17 weekends at the track and enjoyed every minute of it. Cody completed 11 races on his pocketbike through OMRRA and also raced a handful of races on his Metrakit OZbike with the YSR NW Mini Road Racing Association and was lucky enough to travel out of state to race.

Cody finished 1st place in the Junior Superstock class, racing a Polini 4.2 GP2 Steel pocketbike with a total of 148 points. He accumulated a total of 6 first place finishes and 5 second place finishes. The race field averaged 4-6 riders which at times proved to be quite a lot on the smaller tight track especially during lap traffic.

Cody tied for first place in the overall championship and took 2nd place by default due to the total number of first place finishes. The actual championship came down to the very last race of the season. It was quite exciting.

Cody was challenged this year with some of the best racers he has seen to date, which helped to improve his skills immensely over last season. He especially enjoyed his out of town trips to Las Vegas and Stockton CA.

On the Metrakit bike, he enjoyed sitting back and getting to know the new bike. He did not have an actual race class due to limited entries, however he still had adult riders to chase around the track.

In 2005, Cody will be racing the larger bike and only racing his pocketbike "for fun" and not to defend a title. He will be focusing more on improving his road racing skills and looking forward to the challenges of the 6 speed purpose built race bike from Spain. When asked what he liked about that bike he said, "it is fast and I like to shift!". Well he will get to do a lot of that.

His schedule will be posted soon, so stay tuned and come on out and support the little man! : )

Thank you for the kinds words.

I use to think the winter itch was a Mike issue, now Cody seems to be infected with the same virus. He talks more and more about getting out for a ride, to bad it is only 34 degrees right now.

Cody got out and practiced about 6 weeks ago and it was so cold then, his bike was burpen and farten along and wouldn't seem to warm up. Mike put some duct tape over half the radiator and the bike warmed up and was much better. I hope the weather gets nice soon so I can see the little man out on the track : )

The 2005 season is ready to get under way. Opening race is scheduled for Easter weekend in McMinnville Or. This season will be especially fun, race weekends are sure to be one big happy family since Cody will be racing with the YSR's and other BadWeb members Chris Taylor and Debbie G. Cody will be working to improve his racing skills on his 50cc Metrakit Ozbike and work to shave down his lap times.

Good luck little man

Hard to believe we are already preparing for the 2006 race season. As Cody would say, "he is just living a kids dream, racing and hanging out at the track with his best friends". Well 2005 came and went and Cody managed to pull away quite a few year end awards they are as follows: #2 plate holder (for the entire club of registered riders), Junior Thunder Champion, Mod50 2nd Place Overall, 80GP 3rd Place Overall and Formula Thunder 2nd Place Overall.

Cody is entering into his 3rd race season as a sponsored rider with HJC helmets of America and was recently added to their racer bio page.

http://www.hjchelmets.com/rb_wood.htm

Cody's own personal website continues to be a work in progress, but includes some photos of last season - you can check it out at www.codywood.com

Season highlights from 2005 most definitely included racing with the members from this very same motorcycle community and spending all those weekends at the track camping out together. Is it time to do it all over again YET? It just can't get here quick enough!

ps.... if I could ever figure out how to post a picture I would.... here goes nothing.
