So, I left Franklin at 12:30 and just got to... WTF... Marion, North Carolina... I swear on my holy hand grenade that Mount Mitchell must have a curse. I do not know how this happened, but I ended up at the same damn hotel in Marion that I ended up that night I almost bought the family farm in a complete downpour and fog out. Oh, I suppose I could have actually looked at a map when I got off the Blue Ridge Parkway and headed to Boone or something. That would have been too easy. Oh well! Massive day of riding yesterday and today! At least, this time, I got a few good photos... |

Another long day of riding. I left Marion NC around 10:15 AM and happened upon a bike crash on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The woman got scraped up, but the guy they had to take out on a back board. I don't really know any details as the group they were with were pretty busy with EMS. It amazes me how many people ride with only a half helmet... and no other protection. Shorts, tank tops, tennis shoes... no gloves, no boots. The people waiting in line while they are removing the wreckage do not even think twice about it. Only question they had of the lady in the full gear was "Isn't that hot"? I do not get it... Then some damn redneck almost backed over me at the last stop before the hotel. He friggin gunned his pickup with me walking 18 inches behind his rear bumper. Fortunately he missed me, but that was probably the closest I have been to being flattened ever. Mere inches. If I were a few steps behind where I was he would have hit me really hard. Other than that... a glorious day to ride. Didn't get to see Ratbuell, but sounds like he had a good day of riding too! |

Look very closely at that second photo. The woman parked directly in front of me had on a nylon pair of gym shorts, tennis shoes and a short sleeved shirt. I was so disgusted I hardly talked to anyone during that stop. When we fired em up I just got around those morons as quickly as possible. As far as the crash... that can happen to anyone. I just hope the people are alright. Guess I will never know. |

"It amazes me how many people ride with only a half helmet... and no other protection." Yep, the worst justification I've ever heard for wearing a beanie helmet was "I used to wear a full faced helmet until I became a skilled rider. Now I don't see the need". What, you no longer need to use your teeth and jaw? Ooooo kay. And yea, she rode in a tank top too. Dummy. |

My favorites are the folks on the GoldWing's, with all their hi-viz reflective tape and headlight modulators (I HATE THOSE THINGS, by the way)...but they ride in loafers and shorts. OK. Let's make sure the BIKE stays safe...but I won't worry about my own skin. I've got one graft, it was more than enough fun. Last thing I want is another. |

The vadose zone is the area of soil below the ground surface and above the groundwater table. It contains soil gas that can contain contaminants. They can often be broken down by injecting air into the vadose zone... a process called aeration. What did you think I was talking about? lol |

What did you think I thought you were talking about? haha Ride safe tomorrow (wherever youre going next) Please keep us updated with good stories and pics. Also - to people that say stuff about 'isnt that hot' etc......you sit on top of an engine in 90+* on black top - doesnt matter what you wear, its going to be hot. I'd rather wear my textile/mesh jacket that breathes well AND offers some protection. Indiana - last year heading to Homecoming we went through Gary Indiana, the biggest sh!t hole I've ever driven through. Saw my first union picket when I stopped to raise the trailer jack up. The roads were so bad it vibrated the handle around and dropped the jack down to where it was digging into the asphault. |

Somebody needs to make riding gear with "I'd rather sweat than bleed" on it, so you don't have to keep answering daft questions. Enjoy your ride. PS I'm jealous too. |

I've been taking Xrays and CTs for the last 17yrs, always in a trauma center. I have yet to see a motorcyclist treated for dehydration while wearing protective gear. Just yesterday we had a Yamaha verses deer at "low(35mph)speed" and the rider was in poor shape. No helmet, shorts, t-shirt and work boots. Will more than likely loose sight in right eye and will require all kinds of grafts on right arm and leg. I know why I wear ATGATT. Char, let me know when you get into Madison. Would like to hear more travel stories. |

"Somebody needs to make riding gear with "I'd rather sweat than bleed" on it, so you don't have to keep answering daft questions." Hear, hear, Mr. grumpy! That would minimize much dialogue with the clueless! |

...either that or "I'll sweat - YOU bleed" Not only would it avoid the question in the first place, but it might actually help make them go away |
