prolly 70% recovered, thx for asking. "formal" physical therapy just got changed yesterday from five days a week to three (still s'posed to do the "informal" stuff here at home the other days). have had the RK out for a couple of short spins in the past couple of weeks. pushing the envelope a bit, and the shoulder protests some, but it works, and it feels damn good to ride again, my brother. hi to Gloriann. Rotzaruck; yeah, i got a new camera, olympus C765, not actually new, i traded my old camera to the ex-wife for the olympus, which i bought a few years ago, but she got in the divorce. we are still friends, you see. and she bought a new DSLR, so the C765 was not really being used much, so she traded!!! she's cool!!! plus i figured how to post pics from photobucket pretty easy, here are some reposts in full res. oh yeah, i also love old barns, been dreaming of doing a coffee table book on old barns!! april last year;      clear lake last Feb;   | ||

Sleez, Nice ride report! >>> oh yeah, i also love old barns, been dreaming of doing a coffee table book on old barns!! Yeah I know the feeling. I've been compiling photographs for years. Always threatened to do a calendar and published the first issue of "Bikes, Barns and Bridges" in 2006. I've recently taken a special liking to round barns of which we have many in Indiana and neighboring states. Also high on my list of likes are Mail Pouch Barns and one room, brick school-houses. The record maximum temperature was 108 °F (42 °C) on July 15, 1972, and the record minimum temperature was 5 °F (-15 °C) on December 9, 1972. Annual precipitation averages 51.00 inches (1,295 mm). There are an average of 94 days with measurable precipitation. There are occasional snow falls in Willits each year, with an average of 3.7 inches (94 mm) of snow annually. The most snow in one month was 20.0 inches (510 mm) in December 1964. History and culture: Willits was originally called Willitsville. The city is the eastern terminus of the California Western Railroad (otherwise known as the "Skunk Train"), running through the Coast Redwood forests to coastal Fort Bragg. The old redwood Willits Depot was built in 1915 by the Northwestern Pacific Railroad, a subsidiary of the Southern Pacific. It is registered as a National Historic Place. Every July, Willits hosts the Frontier Days & Rodeo, the oldest continuous rodeo and Independence Day celebration in California. It is also home to the Roots of Motive Power Locomotive Museum and the Mendocino County Museum. The Willits area is the final home of the racehorse Seabiscuit. Ridgewood Ranch, where Seabiscuit trained, recuperated, lived out his retirement and was buried, is located a few miles south of the city. Willits High School is located on the north end of Willits. It is the home of the Wolverines. Some notable names from Willits include Tre Cool, the drummer for Green Day, and Mona Gnader, the bass player for Sammy Hagar. Although the band Tommy Tutone is usually referred to as "a San Francisco band", they were located in Willits at the time that their enduring hit single "Jenny (867-5309)" was released. Hal Wagenet, guitarist for the band It's A Beautiful Day in their early years, is a graduate of Willits High School. The folk singer Jeff Buckley spent a year at Willits High School[citation needed]. Stagecoach bandit Charles Bolles (aka Black Bart) stole multiple Wells Fargo boxes and mail from stagecoaches traveling through Willits. Technical death metal band Embryonic Devourment also come from Willits. During the 1950s, seascape painter Marshall Merritt maintained a studio in Willits. Many residents of the city are currently embroiled in a class-action lawsuit against the Whitman Corporation, alleging that hexavalent chromium pollution left by the Remco Hydraulics chrome plating plant, which was owned by Whitman and operated in Willits from 1964-1995, is responsible for a host of local health problems. Litigator Erin Brockovich, known for the eponymous movie about her work in a similar case, is participating in the lawsuit on behalf of the plaintiffs. Five miles east of Willits, the San Francisco Bay Area Council of the Boy Scouts Of America operates a 2,200-acre (8.9 km2) camp named Wente Scout Reservation. Previously known as Willits Scout Ranch, the camp in 1984 "saved" the town of Willits during an emergency water crisis by releasing 20,000 acre feet (25,000,000 m3) of water from their private lake into the town's water system. Willits benefits economically from the widespread cultivation of marijuana in the surrounding hills. Mendocino County, like the rest of California, allows medical use of marijuana and people with a physician-certified need for it are allowed to grow their own marijuana for medical use. Formerly, each person was allowed to grow up to 25 marijuana plants according to a Mendocino county ballot measure called "Measure G", which was voted into effect in 2000. In 2008, however, measure G was repealed, bringing the maximum number of plants allowed to 6 mature plants or 12 immature plants per person, as well as setting the maximum amount of dried marijuana allowed at 8 ounces (227 grams) per person, equal with the California state limits. Demographics: As of the census of 2000, there were 5,073 people, 1,935 households, and 1,230 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,813.7 people per square mile (699.5/km²). There were 2,013 housing units at an average density of 719.7/sq mi (277.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 3,247 (62.72%) White, 32 (0.63%) African American, 179 (3.53%) Native American, 59 (1.16%) Asian, 20 (0.04%) Pacific Islander, 359 (7.08%) from other races, and 195 (3.84%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race numbered 2,154, or 40.69% of the population. There were 1,935 households out of which 35.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.2% were married couples living together, 17.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.4% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.15. memorial day 2009, ride with my Dad!! we rode down 101 to Santa Rosa and over 12 to Bodega, then up 1, great ride, the traffic wasn't too bad, we stopped in at Fort Ross to check it out, hadn't been there in years. then we stopped at Gualala for lunch at The Bones Roadhouse , Great BBQ!! unfortunately Gloriann couldn't go, so we didn't get many photos, she usually takes pics from the back. the only negative issue i had was running out of gas 30.7 miles after my light came on, i figured i would hit a gas station at one of the little towns on the coast, but not to be! Dad saved me, he had a few more miles of range and was able to make it up a ways to buy a 1 gal can and some gas! i waited by the side of the road until he returned. then made it 23.1 miles to fort bragg where i filled up, the light came on 3.9 miles before then, so theoretically i could have gone almost 50 miles on that one gallon!! of course i was taking it real easy!!! then we headed east on 20 back to willits, where my comfort level was higher and the folks in cages were kindly pulling over, it was great fun. here our bikes are as we were getting a drink before heading to the coast;    the sign at Fort Ross;  Inside the grounds at the fort;    thought a pic of the Uly next to the guns would have been cool! my lonely wait...   this is where the bike stopped after being able to coast a short ways, luckily i made it across that bridge!!! thanks Dad!!! | ||

Do you have a pic of you and your dad? That is so cool to be able to ride with your dad. FWIW, my son is wanting to ride one of my Buells when he's down from Seattle to visit, but he doesn't have his MC endorsement yet, so I'm understandably hesitant until he can get with the program and show he's responsible on one my machines. I would love to ride with him and visit all the people that have made my Buell riding experience what it is. Sort of pass the torch on to the next generation... (not that I'm actually passing the torch on, but, you know, let others know what the real deal is as far as riding American Motorcycles made by Americans for Americans). And actually, he and I overnighted in Willits for a sidecar rally a few years back, and while we were there, we rode the Skunk Train and got to experience the otherworldly existence of what it must have been like when trains were major transportation. That was so cool. Keep them pix coming when you can. That's Americana in these times. | ||

thanks sparky, sadly we didn't get any people pics, we were so caught up in the ride and enjoying the day we didn't get as many pics as we wanted. we plan on trying to do a ride-a-month from now on. we will get more pics of the area, and ourselves! yeah, the skunk train is cool, grew up here and didn't ride it until a few years ago...funny that. |
