A sad thing happened on Sundays ride to Prescott, AZ.
We lost a place to ride to that was cool and unique. Another loss in the long sting of set-backs both for road and off-road riders alike.
This did not happen because of the BLM or the Sierra Club or even because of state involvement but because of one person.
The spot is the Rye M/C junk yard. And the person responsible for loosing this as a cool spot to stop is the owner.
Here’s what happened…
I have always like stopping at the Rye ‘graveyard’ for motorcycles, and cars and bicycles and all kinds of other weird and unusual stuff. I like looking at all the mess.
Used to be it was just ‘the owner’, someone who oversaw this mess and called it his own. He would more or less let you wander and keep half an eye on us so we would not abscond with some rare piece that one could ebay for who knows how much. Then on later trips there was a growing presence of ‘little helpers’ who would usher you around and at times even know a bit of a fact about the releciks we were ohhing and ahhing over. More recently the helpers have evolved into an elite force of guardians who would ‘escort’ you about the junk and dutifully remind you to “stay together” and “don’t touch”!
Well today’s stunt caps that BIG TIME! Seems Mr. Owner sexually harassed one of our mates when nobody was looking. How can something like that happen when there are folks around – I mean we were all right there !!? And I am not talking about a ‘victim’ here. She backed out of the situation gracefully, without any more damage than what was already done.
When I got the call to go I felt it was the standard ‘ringing of the lunch bell’. You know-I’ve seen enough-it’s hot-I’m hungry-let’s go! No, what happened to one of our crew (I was riding with 2 other couples) was complete bullshit. Getting backed into a corner and feeling threatened is not fun or entertainment. It is serious shit. We promptly split when she said –“lets go, I want to get the hell out of here”- I understood something was up.
Bottom line is this creep went too far. We have put up with the ‘funky’ environment up to this point but this was stupid.
So just don’t go there! This creep has shown what a dick he can be – screw ‘em. Don’t go there! He has chosen to throw out a “not welcome” sign – let’s honor it! DON’T GO THERE ANYMORE!
This is a loss! If you haven’t seen the Rye Junk Yard well just ogle from the street from now on– but do not go into the compound! Let this guy rot!

Sad story. You won't be able to ever understand why someone will do such a thing. Hope your friend is doing as well as she can and has sought the help of others.
