Denise,

Better get Ferris one too. I can't imagine there are too many people out there who'd want to be behind ya having to look at Ferris', uhh..., behind hanging off the back of your Duc. Well, any takers out there? Didn't think so.

you're right, tho, and i will suggest to Denise that she obtain not one but TWO Ducs.

i'm quite sure she will understand why (and wholeheartedly approve).

maybe it's all the Negra i've consumed tonight, but THAT'S about the funniest thing i've ever read!!!

Viros,

Holy crap! I've actually heard that comparison before. Edward Hermann was the super rich guy in Overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kirk Russell.

Actually, I am his stunt double but don't tell anyone. Its a secret.

Viros...Dude, you finally exposed Reindog...actor during the week, Bueller on the weekend.

Yes Ebear, it was very "Stark" in Starkville!

If anyone read a recent long posting on the discussion board from Road Thing, that about sums it up. I feel the same way, this past Sat. as I picked up the bike from Glendale HD/Buell after her 20K checkup.

FMJ, just wanting to lighten my debt load a skosh -- my personal life has changed considerably recently.

as such, either the Thong or the VFR needs to go to a good home, maybe both.

the BLURR, however, stays, regardless of its current condition. it WILL live again. i have been offered cash for it "as is" several times, and it has always been easy to say "No, thanks." :)

yeah, i'd be interested in a motor. my dream is to ship the pieces of mine off to Aaron and let him caress it, but i've got some other things to take care of first.

what kind of parts/pieces are you looking for?

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute??

Someone gave Ferris a "Rider Education Scholarship"?

Isn't that like giving Puffy Combs tickets to the Met?

I can see it now....our Ferris shows up the fist day of school in a freshly pressed shirt and a book bag over his shoulder.....a week later a dozen hooligans, and one weary, frazzled, former instructor leave, as "Graduate Hooligan Pavement Straffers".

This is a grave assualt on the education system as we attack it with the Buell equivalent of a Human Cruise Missel!

Go Ferris Go!

OH YEAH! and just think how much fun the post-graduate studies would be!!! :)

seriously, the e-mail from Chip was in response to one from me, requesting confirmation of having received the contribution the particpants of Oktoberfast made to Meredith H-D/Buell for the "Daryl Levesque Safety Fund".

Daryl was the fellow who crashed and died during the BRAG SW Torque Fest in AZ, and the good folks of O'fast really dug deep -- we were able to send off a money order in Daryl's memory in the amount of $306.

Speaking of Daryl, there is a good likeness of him in the first pic on Buell's recap of the Northeast Adventure with his usual smiling face.

Court,
"going TO a rider education scholarship"? Oh,... Never mind.

you'll notice in the background, on the left (er, hidden by the smoke), is young James, who was telling Viros, on the right, what an all-around-stud and man-about-town yours truly is.

pretty flattering stuff, and woulda been even MORE so if i wasn't at that very exact moment trying to inflict fourth-degree burns on me, Denise, RLean, and Al by virtue of a big-assed barbecue in which i'd loaded about a bazillion too many Matchlight briquets, resulting in giant flames threatening to take out the house and smoke pouring out the stack like a Mississippi riverboat!!!

come six o'clock the next morning you STILL couldn't get within 10 feet of the thing for all the heat.

we received a Thank You card in the mail today, addressed to "The Participants of Oktoberfast", which reads, in part, as follows:

I wish to thank all of you dearly for your generous donation in memory of my son, Daryl C. Levesque.

It was greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Shirley J. Levesque

the card included a photo of Daryl on an S3, obviously doing a track day somewhere, with the following caption:

"The road in heaven is paved in pure gold and goes on forever and ever."

indeed.

ride in peace, Daryl.

Ferris or Reindog or anyone,

Would one of you be able to tell me exactly where this shot was taken at? I hung a print of it up in a neighboring cubicle and it's driving one of the Harley guys here nuts as he now has this driving goal boring into his brain to go there. Amazing how one picture can cause someone to want to go someplace so bad. I gave him some clues but should be nice and give him the fairly exact location if one of you wouldn't mind divulging where the intersection is at.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the intersection is J22 and Old Stage Rd in Fountain Springs. We also went through this stretch on the All-Cali ride. There is GREAT motorcycling to be had all up and down the Southern Sierras near here. Ferris can correct me if this is the wrong intersection.

ok...so the road to the left dips and rips thru the rolling boulder-studded grasslands that blanket the western slopes of the Sierra in this part of the world (this part of the world being a skosh south and east of Porterville, a couple of bigger skoshes north and east of Bakersfield), before beginning an exhilarating, traffic-free climb back and forth and up towards California Hot Springs (population about 25 on a good day, cool old Community Hall the size of a high-school gymnasium, built a century ago barn-style, still has the original wood dance floor, now has a small museum, deli and beer, and overlooks a cozy Olympic-sized swimming pool fed and heated by the water that gives the town its name).

from here the road changes faces and climbs more aggressively up and up, out of the scrub and into the trees, lots of trees, BIG trees, where the air is always cool and alpine, where wildlife sightings are not uncommon (saw a bobcat my last trip up here), finally depositing one's bad self, amped and Ready For More, to the intersection at Parker Pass (7,000 feet).

stop.

shut off bike.

get off.

smell air.

get more off.

after you're done getting off you may get back on and turn left (north) and ride the sublime Western Divide Hiway and the Mighty 190 toward Trail of 100 Giants (Sequoias, that is, the world's largest living things, bigger and badder than the famed California Redwoods), Ponderosa (say "hi" to Hop Sing), Springville, and all the glory that lies beyond (Yokohl Valley Rd, Sequoia and Kings Canyon Nat'l Parks, and Yosemite as examples), or proceed "straight" and drop down the Upper Kern River Canyon on a breathtaking descent south to Kernville (the spiritual center of Ferrisville), the Ben Bostrom Hiway (Hiway 155), the Lion's Trail, Breckenridge, Twin Oaks, Caliente, the Lower Kern River Canyon, etc., etc., etc., etc.

whew, i'm damn near exhausted!

more to come...

and the road to the right is, in fact, Old Stage Road, a sparkling twelve hundred and three-carat black diamond that never fails to squirt my accelerator pump. if you like high speed rock 'n roller coasters AND tasty twisties so tight you can read your own license plate, this one doesn't suck.

i don't know for sure, but i assume that Old Stage got it's name just as one might imagine -- i'm betting it used to be the supply route from Porterville up to ol' wild west Glennville back in The Old Days (um, like about 1870 B.B.: Before Buell :) )

this road has little business still being here. it begins nowhere, and it ends nowhere. it MIGHT see a dozen cars on a busy day, and i've ridden it many times from end to end and not seen ANY cars.

if you know the road, you can spank it so hard your hand hurts.

if you DON'T know the road, follow me and do what i do.

Old Stage is such a treat that several folks commented during Oktoberfast that it was their favorite slice of pie all day, and considering the caliber of roads we rode that day, that is praise of the highest order.

enuff.

must work. :(

must stop thinking about what i've just been writing about. :(

must ignore the fact it'll be sunny and 70 here again today. :(

must ignore the fact that 155, the Bostrom Hiway, would deposit me 'n the Thong on Old Stage's back door in about 45 minutes. :(

MUST work!!! :( :( :(

(mustn't i???)

ride to lean,
