I posted this on my MySpace blog. Thought a BadWeBer or two might like it.

Night Flying
A few nights ago I was riding in from La Crescenta. If you're familiar with the 210 west of Sunland / Tujunga, you know that the freeway,, as it winds through the foothills, appears to be in the air relative to the San Fernando Valley to the south. Mixed with a clear, dark night, I was treated to a fantastic illusion...

The air cooled pushrod lump in my Dyna drones along - much like an aircraft engine. I'm in my helmet - full face, always. I'm not surrounded by metal. And as I ride westbound, to the south of me there are aircraft flying - seemingly not much higher than me. Lights in the sky. All of a sudden, I was one of those aircraft.

I was no longer leaning to turn. I was banking. The bike felt like it was riding up and down over big, gentle bumps in the air. The uneven firing of the Milwaukee twin kept me from coming to reality quickly. Add power to climb... Gently pull back the power on descent... Flying solo. No bogey - no wingman.

"Green Valley tower, this is Harley zero two foxtrot x-ray delta, over Newhall. Requesting runway 21. I have information lima."

That was pretty cool.
