Bads1,

Sounds good to me. I'd be happy to chip in for pizza. How far from the hotel is the bar? Is it walking distance? I don't like to be drinking beer and then riding, especially after dark in an unfamilar area. I guess I could just not drink any beer but it would be nice to have a couple of cold ones, especially if they're free!

Dyna,

Volunteer to organize some rides. You are right. It says "self guided" but I'm going to have trouble just guiding myself out of the hotel parking lot in Racine. I'm not familar with the area and won't know where to go or what to do.

Breakfast (not a person, a morning meal),

What about arranging a place to meet for breakfast on Thursday morning instead of Wednesday? On Wednesday, I'll probably be happy just riding to Hal's and grabbing a donut. Thursday morning looks wide open. We are all on our own and "self guiding" ourselves around Racine. It could be a chance to hook up and decide what to do Thursday.

Any Local Cheesehead,

I was planning on taking I94 straight out of Minneapolis/St. Paul and then taking highway 83, just west of Milwaukee, to go around to Racine. It hooks up with highway 20. Is this good route to get around Milwaukee? I figure I'll be hitting the area around 4 p.m. and want to avoid a lot of traffic.

I hope they got Salt Fish Cakes - Newfie Style!!!

Nothing like Salted Fish Cakes, fat pork scrunchions and real butter for a breakfast.

Finish it off with a nice shot of SCREECH and your good for the day.

No..avoid 83. Lots of stoplights & small towns. I94 to 894 then back on I94 is the easist & fastest way. Milwaukee really doesnt have a whole lot of issues with traffic.

Crusty..sorry bout that. I also forgot the guys coming up from Texas too:D But I did say etc so maybe we can just call you ETC instead of Crusty from now on?

Dana...thats an ok suggestion as far as planning a ride or 2. But say someone wants to go up to the S&S plant for a tour? That takes more than a 2 minute talk & saying "sure lets go". You have to make sure they are open & receptive to a tour. This goes for a number of places, I just used S&S as an example.

Thw whole "self-guided" tour deal is a bunch of crap. I attended the HOG national rally in S.Carolina a few years ago & they had "self-guided" tours. Hell I just rode 1000 miles & managed to get there on my own, why the hell couldnt they have maps drawn up of the local area with touristy type stuff to go see?

John, the breakfast deal can be done for any & all days if wanted? Like I said we have folks coming in to town & really besides a "ride to east troy" & a dinner there is nothing else that has been thought of. I know of the Battletrax deals on fri & sat but Im not so sure someone who is 500+ miles from home is going to want to risk crashing the bike & breaking something & not being able to get home on the bike.

Doesnt have to be anything etched in stine like "7am at dennys" but it could be a "hey I will be outside your hotelt 7:30 lets just go for a ride to nowhere & stop when we get hungry".

Some people love bar food, others dont. Some like B.K. others prefer Applebees. Personally I love going to the Rock Bottom in downtown Milwaukee & sitting next to the river while you eat. Great food & atmosphere.

I would just hate to have folks come here, do the card deal & then sit around with their thumb up their ass because nobody had given any thought into what else to do. Depending on the interest we still have time that we could even plan a quick poker run. $5 or 10 a hand, its not like we have a shortage of bars around here. And no you dont have to drink alcohol on a poker run, I dont. When I go on one its either pepsi or lemonade. Still $$ for the bar.

Dont get me wrong on this..I think what has been done so far is great...but its not enough to keep anyone active or even mildly active for 3-4 days.
How much fun do you think it would be to ride 1000 miles & then spend all your time in the hotel bar??

Uhh John, you really dont want to be doing that. I know Dana will say Racine rox, but the reality is that its a ghetto. Not the whole town, but a good portion of it is. The area the Hotel is in is decent so you are safe. If anyone is interested we can do a ghetto ride:D Hit the bad areas of Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee & if you want to have some real fun we can head south & hit Waukegan & North Chicago.

In all serious now, there really isnt a whole hell of a lot to see & or do in Racine or Kenosha. Thats why I always head up to milwaukee.

No ham and eggs at Mike's, all the dishes and frying pan will be packed in boxes by then. ;)

Down across the street from Southridge is an old IHOP that is now known as something else, but it still looks like an IHOP, if someone wants an earlier breakfast.

M2Me,
Look on your map for Milwaukee, you will see a freeway box where I-94 and I-43 and I-45 all mix and mingle and add in a few new names like 894 and such. Any of them will have traffic around the time you get into town, but compared to Minn/StP it will be typical traffic and usually flows fairly well apart from the tailgaters. Stay west and south on the box sides and you'll be okay. Or just head south on hwy-67 from Oconomowoc all the way to hwy-50 and then go east on 50. 50 will take you almost to Uke's front door on I-94 and into south Kenosha. Just watch the interchange with hwy-12 and hwy-50. Or just take hwy-12 southeast from south of Madison.

PS, there's a Hooters by Southridge too, 76th and Layton or there abouts.

hell couldnt they have maps drawn up of the local area with touristy type stuff to go see?

Dyna, just do it !!! I bet it would be very appreciated by those coming in, and even those of us with no sense of direction, like myself !!

You can't force folks to go on organized rides of your choosing, but you can sure have the information they need to make their decisions about where to ride and what to see available !!

I don't know about most people, but if I go traveling, I want ALL the information on what to see, what to do, and nice maps of routes to ride and get where I want, then I can decide myself what I want to do and with whom !!!

I know Nevco is really good at mapping out directions for some really cool rides, easy to follow even for someone like me, and he knows all the good touristy spots too !! And I'm guessing he wouldn't mind at all heading up a project like that either, get with him !!

M2me, coming over I94, down I894, then continue down I94 really is the best way ! Your traffic issue will be I894, it's about a 4 to 6 mile stretch that will be slow at that time, but it's still quicker than taking back roads, redlights etc.

I agree with Dyna, Milwuakee doesn't have that bad of a traffic issue, unless your not used to city traffic. And I'm also with him, if you come this far see Milwaukee !! The Lakefront is a really cool ride in my opinion !!

Two more weeks, and I'm on the road! All my riding buddies have backed out, so this has become a solo deal for me. 2300 miles on a Blast, this should be great! I think that the only tool I'll carry is a funnel to add oil :).

I'm excited about meeting you guys and looking forward to seeing a ton of the US that I've never seen before. I'm not too worried about traffic, it can't be worse than LA freeways/parking lots. Do you guys legally split lanes, or is that just a Cali thing?

Dennis, did you get a chance to make a list of who paid for dinner? My dinner check still hasn't been cashed (I hope it got there).

Bunch of weinies !! LOL

Look forward to meeting you when you get here, especially after that many miles on a Blast !

I know Dennis/Lake is still holding checks which could be why it isn't cashed.
