This has to be one of the shortest rides that I've seen. My wife suddenly got the bug to own her own bike. She's suddenly been asking to ride on the back of my Uly but I was very surprised to hear that she want one of her own. She had ridden on of her cousins bikes and so one day to stop her wining I put her on the Uly (she's 5'10") and she drove around the block a couple of times. Great! I had seen a used Blast at the dealer and we put some money down on it till she could look at it. When got the dealer she sat on it and said that it was just too small. She said that she was just too bunched up to be able to ride it. They didn't have many other bikes available, (what Harley Dealer does) but the did have a demo 2006 XB12ss on the showroom. She liked that bike and bought it. I rode it home for here. Excited, she put on her new mesh armored jacket, Helmet and Gloves and started around the block. She took the first turn to the right and as soon as she was out of sight I heard this loud "CRACK". I just couldn't believe it that it had anything to do with her route. At least I didn't want to believe that. She didn't come around the block I started to run, still in my Sidi's around the block to find, or hopefully not find her. There the bike was standing in front of someone's porch upright. I ran up looking for her but no where to be found. I thought maybe she'd gone around the back of the house to notify the owners that she'd driven into their bushes. Still no wife (Carol). I went up the steps to the front door, and there up on the porch lay Carol with a very surprised look on face laying in a pile of broken wooden furniture. I asked her if she was all right and she said no! Ask her to wiggle her toe and fingers she did but was bleeding from her left ankle pretty bad. Her throat was hurting and so I didn't take her helmet off but opened her visor. I just get over how she was way up over a railing laying on that porch above the top of the bike and the railing. I looked up the windows and the top of the shutters had damage! The airlifted her to the hospital and I never really looked the bike. but it's sort of toast. She's be home today or tomorrow and will make a full recovery. She had only ridden about 800 ft. I'm going back to buy that Blast on Monday.     | ||

wow, that sucks. i hope she's ok??? my gf has a blast and i am like a mother hen when she is on it, but she has solo'd a few times now. good luck and heal fast. | ||

Goodgrief Bearly!!!! Glad she's gonna get through that okay. Your version of this tale was just enough to leave a lot of questions. After Carol recovers sufficiently, explain to her it's a BadWeB requirement to tell her own tale,(try to be convincing) especially since she was the first one on the scene. Also, make sure she understands that no matter how foolish she may feel, everybody will understand, SOME of us more than others. Then help her get back on that horse, or blast or something. It may be best to never mention what a shame it is about that XB, it won't go over too good. Rotzaruck!!!! | ||

Rotzaruck Ed... Arrrgg, I didn't think. It's been so long since I started riding, I didn't remember about getting on my first big powerful dirt bike and getting rocked back by the power, pulling on the handle bars to hold on and grabbing more and more power. That was thirty four years ago. That's what happened to her. I'll try to get her to sign on. The accident was much more spectacular than I first imagined. She hit the base of this porch made of solid cement and brick. Then launched up through a porch railing hit the top part of the railing with her face shield which didn't break. That knocked her head back and hit her throat. Still traveling up, she hit the side of the house at the TOP of the windows on this front porch, then fell down to smash a bunch of teak furniture. I didn't see it, but heard it a block away and was the first one there. I put the rest of this together by looking at the marks on the bike, her tale and looking at the house. Thanks all for your kind words and thoughts. She came home from the hospital last night and should be ok in few weeks. There is still a hematoma around her voice box and she has to be very quite (:-)) and not lift anything. While in the hospital they found she also had one broken rib and stitched her legs up where she took off the right peg with her ankle. (that has to hurt!) She's vacillating about riding right now. If the lighting is totaled she may not ride. If they decide to fix it... she says that she'll own a bike and will have to learn how to ride it. Of course it won't be that one, we WILL start out by buying a blast first. I'll just have two bikes to ride for a while. I just hope the insurance company doesn't total the bike. A few years back I helped with NYPUM (Honda Dirt Bike) teaching kids to ride, and you could pretty much count on the fact that for every 20 or so kids getting on the bike, somebody at some point would end up in a bad spot with a lot of throttle. We had a big field, so there was a lot of time for us to yell at them... they generally either covered 100 yards or so before they 1) fell over, 2) looped the bike, or 3) finally thought to let off the throttle or pull in the clutch (after which they then generally fell over). And they weren't just bad riders, some of the better eventual riders started that way... its just a perfect storm of events that causes a mental short circuit. Glad she will recover, that really had to hurt. Pretty impressive to break both the front and the back wheel like that, must have been an impressive loop. She is a strong lady! | ||

Wow, thanks for the kind words and the some advice Reepicheep. I should find a large spot for her if there is a next time. Hopefully so. I just remembered that the speed sensor is attached to the transmission. So with the lightning on the stands, I ran bike in first gear to redline. It indicated 50 mph! I thought that would be safe to tell her just stay in first gear. I've wrecked a couple of time at or over 50 that hurts. Yea, I'm just not a very great instructor either. I told her the time before when she was driving my Uly to keep her right wrist down when got on to keep from pulling a lot of throttle, but I forgot about that with the excitement of the new bike. A Honda XR150 helps also. Top speed in first gear probably 18mph on a good day, and it will loop before it hits that. They bounce nicely as well... even nicer when they are still owned by Honda ;) | ||

Parts price list for the bike it's $2100. That's too bad and it might mean that Carol Kenevil will ride again! If insurance doesn't total it, we'll buy that blast and she'll take the course. IF they do total the bike she says that she may wait a while for this goal. And Reepicheep, is that you oil pump drive gear on you bio? Good Idea for a low horse power bike. Off road in florida isn't bad and it's all sand. I went 117 feet without my motor cycle in AZ and didn't even have a bruise when I happened to land on a sandy berm next to a barrel cactus. Brick walls don't have a lot of give. Maybe we'll put knobby tires on that blast? | ||

Bearly I'm curious as to the outcome on that XB, By the time they add HD labor, it may go over the top. If it does, you may be able to keep it and fix it yourself with parts from badweb and ebay if the frame and major stuff is okay. My M2 was older and when they added everything up, it didn't have a chance. We entered the Buell world when we got Becky's(Becksbuell) Blast. We both really enjoyed it. I think if Carol gives it a chance, she will too. Then she'll start hanging out in the "Thumper Section" and have you changing the exhaust, and intake, and so on. When she sat on it, and said it cramped her, do you know if it has the high or low seat? Their are some big ol' guys loving to ride those things(check Thumper) They are a fun, easy ride, and pretty tough also. As solid as they are though, they still don't make good bulldozers. We got a good badweb deal on a XB9R, for me to ride until I fix my M2, or whatever I end up doing with it. By the time Beck rode it the 600 miles home though,(with badweb buddy Nevrenuf) she claimed it. Not an issue yet, my doc still won't let me ride, and when he does, I'll start out on the Blast anyway, just to get myself back in sync. Even though she's hooked on the XB, she won't talk about parting with the Blast, it's too much fun. I hope Carol K gets the kinks worked out and is back to riding soon. Rotzaruck [Ed] "I'll huff and puff and I'll Buelldoze your House down". he he. Thanks for the kind words about Carol, she is getting better slowly. As the pain in her neck is starting to go down it's bring attention to other painful areas like her broken rib and her left ankle. But she's driving and running around. She's been talking about actually getting her motorcycle permit again. So I think that she'll be riding in a couple of months. As for the bike, the insurance came in at 2760 for the parts and 832 for the labor, so they are writing me a check for the repairs. We have a $500 deductible so since I'll be doing myself, that left me 332 to spend on a wheel bearing puller/installer thats on the way from Cycle Shop USA. (the one from Harley is $1000.00+!) So the XB12Ss will live to see at least 500 miles as it only has 493 demo miles on it. I do have concerns about the steering head bearing as the insurance adjuster would not let me pull the front wheel to able to turn the bars. My pit bull stands are being used right now with the Uly up getting the Micron System installed in the garage in between going to work. As for the Blast, thanks. I asked it had the low seat installed. They had the tall one in stock ($117) and so I bought that. Carol tried it on and said that it was much better. Funny, When I bought my Uly there, it had the optional low seat on it Which I then had to trade with a short buddy to get the normal seat. Hey and what happened to you? | ||

I think I would classify mine as "Gross Stupidity". It was easy for me to sympathize with Carol. People keep asking "but why did you do that?" But I did prove the M2 is not so hot for Baja, bulldozer(ha!!buelldozer) or demolition derby duty. One day when it's cold and raining, and you're waiting on parts and can't work on a bike, bored and have lots of time, the whole (well, mostly) sad tale is in the "Tale Section". It's topic is "Got your MC health card". Bear in mind I typed that mess up while on drugs with a foul disposition, if you need anything translated, there's probably no use asking me, but I'll try.
