Thanks Folks!!
At long last I finally got to take a little ride. I had some vague notion of planned direction, but made no plans beyond that. I intended to get an early start, but I had to do some stuff to the Blast ( it's the only one operational at the moment) which slowed me down long enough to remember I really needed to go back up to Decatur TN and winterize the place at the lake. That was okay though, lots of country side between here and there. I had a soccer game to get back for, and my late start didn't help.
I didn't take many pictures, I was loath to stop. I did run across an old store for FB that I'll put in the Home town Chattanooga thread.
I thoroughly enjoyed the ride though, and hope to do it again in the morning (I'm meticulously planning an unplanned impulsive kind of ride), but up in Decatur, the strangest thing happened. The house behind ours had for sale signs last time I was there, but someone had moved in. I had left the bike outside the gate and looked up and saw a guy standing there beside it. I walked up to meet the new neighbor. He seemed like a nice guy and asked me where I had ridden from, on such a nice day to be out riding. He said he had always ridden, but was without a bike at the moment. He started staring at the Blast, and I was waiting for the question; "now just what is a Buell"? or something of that nature, then the shock!! He said "When Eric first built those things Willy G asked me what I thought about it" . I don't even know what he said for the next few minutes, I was flabbergasted. He said something about riding them for them or something, but he didn't sound like a huge fan. I told him my M2 was wrecked and the XB was broke, and he seemed to know what I was talking about.
Both of us were in a hurry, and we didn't have time to talk, but I'll get him down around the fire next spring and talk a bit more. So strange, to go out in the country and find someone that knows about Buells, at least around here, is pretty neat.
Now my biggest issue is trying to decide if it is morally correct to pray for dry weather in the middle of a drought. They are threatening rain tomorrow, but near seventy degrees. Maybe I can just drop a hint. Or just get wet.
Life is gooder!!!

glad that your on the bike rotz, just to bad it's a couple weeks to late. hopefully you'll stay out of trouble and keep the rubber down where it belongs so we can go out during march badness.hope to put a few more miles on the m2 again tomorrow. still haven't got that first 500 on the motor yet.

diablo, i'm sure you are quite the inspiration to your kids and those around you for not giving up. i only had a broken leg and was able to get back on the bike when i got into a half cast. my brother's buddy who recently passed away at the age of 49 i think rode his old shovelhead with a prostetic leg from the knee down. i got lucky as he-double hockey sticks back in october when i dumped the xblightning. no broken bones but the shoulder still doesn't act right. keep up the faith.

The sun finally popped out and ran the rain off late this morning. Went out and cruised around a while.
Maybe my luck is changing. I had been out in all kinds of boonies but was cutting back through Dalton Ga, meaning to stop at a bike shop(which I forgot all about), and the Blast started spitting and sputtering something awful. I was afraid it was that rubber coupler thing everybody warns about. I didn't think I'd ridden enough to be out of gas. I had a big hill to go up and barely made the top. I knew there was a gas station not too far away, but there was a major intersection and light before I could get there. I cut off on a side street that had a slight slope. People were sitting on all the porches wondering at how quiet that motorcycle was. I slipped through a stop sign, down a hill, back up and right into the station parking lot. I only had to push it 60 feet or so to the pump. Yet another advantage to the Blast, they push much easier than M2's. 2.13 gallons later, it was cured.
But I guess that was just a fluke, my luck's back. I just burned my supper trying to tell this tale. Of course, some folks might maintain that running out of gas or blackening your Bubba Burger has nothing to do with luck. They might be right too, I gotta get a battery in that smoke alarm so I'll know when supper's done.

Nevr, if it was as pretty there as it was here today, I bet you got your miles in. That rain that left here today was headed in your direction though. I had to send it somewhere!!
Jerry, most folks here are safe. I'm only dangerous to cars and trains and low flying planes.

Rotzaruck, I just read your story for the first time. Dude, that's great. Really. I went through a similar experience, so I can relate with you.

What you said about the pain is so true. It still amazes me how you adjust and live with it without even realizing you've done it.

Yeah, they told me I'd never walk again. Spend life in a wheel chair. They were wrong. Said I'd never run again. Wrong. Said I'd never ride again. Wrong. It took years to get here, but it can be done.

I also got some good support from Badweb members. Good guys all.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say that I could not be happier for you! Persist until you win, right?

Enjoy your rides and congratulations on great recovery!

Dave

rotz, me and tailspining went up there and it started raining, fog was starting to get thick and at one point i lost site of him because the fog was so thick(about 15 yd visibility) got cold and the jacket i had on was perforated and the water was seeping down in my boots and luckily it started to get better by the time we got back to greenville. the next time you send the rain can you make it a little warmer.

The thing about time flying faster as you get older is really starting to make sense to me.
It's been almost two years since that foolish fateful day.
I have recovered nicely. The wii has shown me my center of balance is off, and helping me straighten that out. It is referring to the physical aspect of course.
This has been a wacky two years and life in general has started to get back into balance also.
So, as to the question of will the M2 go again?
YES!!
I think so anyway.
When I got to where I could hobble properly, I hauled it to my Mom's basement, along with the truckload of parts I had gathered. BadWeB and ebay fixed me up pretty good. It sat there for a long time, patiently waiting.
I was riding the XB every chance I got until it laid down on me.
When it became apparent the XB was going to be rather involved, and the only small spot I had to work on something was where the M2 was sitting, it was time to start.
I had plans of doing all sorts of things I know I should do to it. Now, I'm just trying to get it going as easily as possible and see how it acts and then determine what else I have to do.
It's going to be a little scarred and ragged, we'll make a pretty fair pair. But we'll be running!
If things will just stop getting in my way for a little while, I will soon have ignition. If it will just go fairly straight down the road I'll be happy. I'm sure it will be thrilled too.
Soon; very soon. Hopefully I will be able to report major progress in a few days! I'm mostly down to body work and details. I'm almost excited, which is not really natural for me.
All I lack is finishing!

Lost all my brand new oil.

The tank was bolted down good and tight, as was the seat. Didn't slow either one of them down.

Surprise! Didn't plan on that! The nipple came out much easier than expected though.

I can just barely walk around it, it's cramped, but warm and dry.

And then there's those really dumb things to slow down progress. I'm used to stuff like that though.

HMMMM!

I am proud to announce:
The old M2 is ON THE ROAD!!!
In ONLY two short years it has gone from this

To this

We actually had two bikes running on the first trial run(not counting the pre trial with no brake)so we could ride together.
Getting to ride that cyclone with my lovely bride riding with me was a most satisfying thing.

One thing after another conspired to slow things down(after I finally started on it), but getting it going was really not too bad.
Still lots to do, it'll be a little scroungy for a while. Note the grey fender and the custom battery strap(among many other things). But it goes straight down the road, and now it even stops.
Function is the priority, I'll get around to details one of these days.
First, I'll ride back to sanity, at least as close as I can get to it.
I am truly a blessed individual.
Rotzaruck!

Rotz,
I never read this till now, your a very good story teller! Glad you persevered, and are doing what you love, most ppl pack it in when "stuff" happens, cause they are able to, you and I have the same mentality on the subject.... "can't give up what I love, and no... I'm not sorry I am this way." Hats off to living life your way!

WoW! What a great tale. Glad it has all worked out for you. Great job on the bike. If I would have read this first, I wouldn't have posted my silly little story. Thanks for sharing.
