I m behind on postin glad to hear that all have gotten home ok. got more pix from franklin, Reepicheep, tells a great story so just a few pix to add to that part.

After saying goodbyes to FB2 we headed for Franklin It did rain some and at one point We had to stop so I could get into the rain gear.

Ferris had been talking to JB2 on and off over the past couple of days. "Theres, this little place on the state line, we just gotta stop," it sounded like "the stuff of legends" " no running water, bullet holes in the walls, just lights and COLD BEER"
It reminds me a little of one of my favorite places here,

This little place has been there since the late 40's just as it is today.

If you like glitz and glamour this 'aint the place, cold beer, good conversation, and some interesting history, stop at "BOBS"

theres no telling what you may find, you do have to watch where you sit.

Yes that is what you think it is someone nearby keeps chickens ......}

As you can see it's a popular spot to stop for a cold one, Lou even played there once.

The walls are covered with humorous stuff,
the one thing that I tried 3 times to photograph was the photo chop of "yoda" with a "doobie" saying,
"fear leads to anger, anger leads to stress, stress leads to doobies, doobies lead to twinkies" ok I'm strange...

We motored into Franklin late afternoon and checked in, We hooked up with JB2,
And a supprise, The Ushers! Ferris had indicated that there was some thing in store. shortly "These two" guys show up.

This was a major event in the making,
We walked to Mike Breedloves' place as it was a block or so away.

I didn't know that JB2 and Ferris had some "Smack talking" going on over JB's Victory

part way through dinner Ferris produces a "Victory bag" and hands it to JB2 "for trash"

Later stogies are produced. This was shaping up to be a "large time"

When Lou belted it out for us I was riding while in may chair, I could feel the wind on my face and see the grass blowing in my mind. Or see the misty rain that would be with us the next day smell the smoky smell of autumn leaves. To say the music was great would be to do Lou a disservice,

Before the night was over It started to rain in earnest, Mike was the ultimate host and drove us back to the hotel.

affirmative. great pix Oldog, and everyone else, too. thx for an awesome time everyone. this ride, as was duly noted throughout, was the stuff of legend.

spoke with Gentleman Jim by phone earlier today. he made it home safe and sound to western Washington on Wednesday night, logging 9052 miles for the trip, and earning my eternal respect for not only being an iron butt (who else do you know that would ride that many miles just to hang out with the likes of us???), but also for being a fantastic friend and riding partner.

Alex, if you're lurking, got your voice mail regarding the results of Matt's latest MRI's, could you/would you share the great news with everyone here?

again, to everyone involved, especially my son Wade/FB2, thank you, thank you, thank you. this trip was special in so many ways, but the people involved were what made the gig legendary.

dare i say "epic"??? : )

Jerry,
Can do, been busy reconnecting with work and life and closing on my new stable...

Jerry and Jim, it meant the WORLD to myself and Matt that you both were able to ride up to Grand Rapids and meet Matt. Jim and I talked a bit after we got there and he thought the visit might be a bit odd; a few strangers knocking on the door of a guy they only knew by word and stories through me. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Matt; schedules were tough, work gets in the way, and some of the brightest doctors in the country are working to help Matt which makes visits a bit difficult. Matt’s been through some rough times lately- working with radiation treatments, dealing with drugs a body struggles to understand, dealing with the ordeal he is going through. I can’t speak for Matt and the way he felt when we were there, but I was so happy to see a big smile on his face- to hear stories from back in the day and to hang out and talk life for a bit. A few Labatt Nordics, some Pizza, and we were reliving the old days. And Bowser, he’s a tough little dude.

Matt ‘graduated’ from round two of radiation a few days before our visit, and had an MRI and the Ford Clinic a few days after we departed. They found that his tumors hand shrunken quite a bit, which is great news. The Ford doctors were to meet at the end of the week and determine what was next. So, another measurable victory, but more ground to gain.

A few pics to share, the first of Jim, Jerry, Matt and myself, the second is of Matt and his parents, who are phenomenal parents, and I was so happy to see them again. And that stuffed French Toast- stuff of legends…

Please keep Matt in your prayers; he’s one of the greatest guys I’ve ever met, and has some tough battles ahead. Jerry and Jim can attest, he’s a one in a billion.
Matt, love you brother.
Alex

Oldog, and JimA, pleasure meeting you both and glad you guys enjoyed your time at FT Jackson. Always a cold one waiting if you make your way back...

Dad, your trips never seem to be complete without you proned out or spreadeagled next to a cop car. I'm pretty sure that the CHP has an entire satellite network devoted to tracking you...

I though it would be good to finish my posts to this thread today if time allows.

I don't take pix while riding any more, I can't up in the mountains any way.
lets just say that the NC mountains offer some of the best riding this side of the continental devide.

At the end of the day on the sky way and the dragon we took a few minutes to remember someone special.

"Ride to Lean, Stop To Remember"

Mike volunteered for camera duty, and was handed the entire groups' cameras.

It was a great pleasure to meet Mike, I hope that I get to see him and JB2 again.

a great conversation and story telling ensued later, with many and varied discussions.

The next day Reepicheep would have to leave us.

First breakfast an a special place, all of the bikes lined up,
Photo Op!

Some folks are real particular about their pictures and take the time to set them up just right,

just Not me ...

A "nice pair" Um-er thats another story.

We have all been at the gas pump or a light and had some one ask us "Is that a Ducati?"

On the way in we encounter this little one,
"he's" a regular here and prefers to dine outside when the weather is good.

Having his usual a sausage biscuit and water. When we went in the explanation, was a hoot, In their typical charming manner these two walk right up to their new friend and get aquainted.

After breakfast we hooked up with the "Franklin Contingent" this bunch of mountain boys has undoubtedy suprised more than one newbee on a ricer

We motored up into the mountains for some breathtaking scenery and twisty roads

Yes I am smiling here, I noticed yestarday that I always seem to look sooo serious.

On another thread "anony" told Ferris that he would have to "turn off his kill switch, yadda, yadda" -----

Er-um that might be a tall order, this is one of "BOBs'" running boards, the Franklin boys sleds are altered similary...

Our trip led us to "The wheels of time"
Where my HD education was to be expanded.
I have only one comment I will be going back.

I' aint done yet Ferris..

Heres some of my pics from the wheels through time.

almost good enough for a title shot

The place is chock full of curiosities(sp)
My Uncle Butch has told me of some of his hair raising adventures on his 125 Harley
like these UB ?

This nice young lady greeted us at the door, and explained about the museum

This is the "pan head" Ferris and Henrik were bantering about else where,
Lovely bit of kit-just not my style.

Kinda like my X-Wife just too much upkeep.

This is closer to my taste, simple.

'corce this aint bad either, ... THE BIKE yeah right..

Can any one tell me what this is, Is it a "whizzer / Wizzard?" a friend tells me of one he had when he was young I don't have a clue.

Ya' Know how every one is down on JAP bikes, How about this one looks kinda like something that Jesse Rook would build except its dated about 191X JAP
i JUMP on
AND
you PUSH

Some of the exibits are not to be believed!

Like this beautifull Indian.
The best way to learn to appreciate stuff like this is to get "educated".

many of the rare machines I had never heard of, As I looked at them and back through the pix, my years woking in a machine shop come to me, If you have never bored a cylinder and fitted a piston to it on an engine lathe, or hammered out a sheet metal form. It's hard to grasp how much work went in to these machines, with their hand built motors and frames.

A new and to me curious exibit was going in about Women on motorcycles. note the back drop.

There are some unusual machines oops thought that it was the IL4, its a Dayton, WW Graniger sold bikes ?

There are some things that just should not be restored, If I understood our tourguide
this is an ALL ORIGINAL Indian, right down to the tires. This is one of the very few machines that has not and will not be run, because of it's value and scarcity.

Its interesting how bikes have changed over the years. notice the saddle on the back end on the above indian, the dayton has one like that 2

These are some of HD'd Military bikes including some unusual engine configs
think Guzzi and BM shhhhhhhh you know who.

this was used to transport carrier pidgeons, In WW2 The gentleman in this pic was our amiable tour guide, the museum would rather you not touch the exibits

There is just too much to post all of it.
The bikes, and artfull collections of memorabilia, shoot some of the display bikes are on furniture that is antique...

This Gulf Oil co sign reminded me of my dad as He had worked for them, from before I was born to when the Co was sold. Look at the floor under and behind the sign, there is about 50 feet of rubber burnt into the floor, some of the antiques get ridden hard

Here Mr. Waxler is starting one of the bikes in the collection, If you visit you will likely see this, Me I wanted to hear the V16 caddilac

Here are some pictures of the Traub.

I could have touched it, but did not ( bad manners )

the facts ....
