downstairs in the "party room" hung this new display, an old Harley-Davidson frame, rear fender and gas tank recently unearthed from a field by one of Mikey's neighbors. JB2 had earlier in the day helped Mike assemble the pieces and get it all hung in time for the party.

the exposure is off a bunch, as the camera was fooled by all the light bouncing off the Victory trashbag that some numbskull defiled the place with...

it is VERY cool that you can still make out "Harley-Davidson" on the gas tank.

ladies and gents, please meet Mr. Lou "Mystic" Usher! Lou played our gig, basically as a favor to JB2 and Mikey, and it was a treat to listen to and enjoy his original music, much having to do with life on two wheels, while we partied into the night.

yo, Jim and Shel Corso, please make note of the white guitar pick Lou is using!

well, lessee, this was our first stop on Tuesday September 5th, which translates to my ninth day on the road (if the Bailey's hasn't fogged my brain too bad).

the Hellbender isn't far from Franklin, where we were base-camping for a few days, is on the way to Deal's Gap, and is new since the last time i was down here. as if driving a Hummer don't make you stand out enough, might as well splash some flashy graphics all over it. : )

a shot inside the Hellbender, which, i believe, is an old gas station, now converted to Cool Place To Stop On Your Way To The Dragon, with food, coffee, and all manner of Deal's Gap and other moto-paraphernalia.

seems the Hellbender, besides being a catchy moniker for a Cool Place To Stop On Your Way To Deal's Gap, is also the name of a prevalent aquatic critter around these parts. the Hellbender is described in the text as "spectacular."

the obligatory photos in front of the Deal's Gap sign, to prove we were here. call me a sentimental old fool, but to BE here was truly bitchin'! that's Oldog and Gentleman Jim in the pic, as happy, i believe, as i was to be standing on such hallowed ground. note the dry "shadows" under the scoots. we'd been fighting moisture so far this morning, but had our fingers crossed that the infamous Dragon would be dry.

however, at this point the rain started again - not a ton, but enough - and any hopes we had at a dry pass over the Dragon were summarily dashed.

not the greatest photo in the world, but cool 'cause it shows our Motley Crude, in various degrees of wet weather preparedness. hard to say who's the biggest fashion horse here. i think Mikey gets the nod, not only for his Screaming Yellow Galoshes, but for the jaunty way he models them. : )

it was a painfully slow pass on the Dragon. there was just enough water on the road to make it dangerous, and as much as i wanted to sharpen the edges of my floorboards a little more, it didn't happen.

also, rather than running a lap outbound and then a return trip to the store, once we got to the other end we were gonna keep on going. that being the case, i bought my "I survived the Dragon" sticker in advance, and stuck it on at the overlook at the other end.

i had to wipe all the muck and mire off the tail light lens first, then had to try and shield the lens with my body to keep the rain off while i positioned the sticker. i'm anal about this stuff, but, in my haste and under less than ideal conditions, botched the placement of the sticker pretty bad.

it's a cool sticker, goes with the overall color scheme of the bike, and didn't have to go on a painted surface, which appealed to me. but, the damn thing ended up a little crooked and a lot off center.

after i got home i tried to peel it off and center it on the lens (i had good success removing Dragon decals from my V-Strom from my last trip down there). THIS sticker, however, was a one-time deal, left all its adhesive behind, and ended up in the trash.

no worries. i'll be back to do Deal's Gap again, on this same bike, and hopefully under dry conditions.

when i've truly truly earned it, the bike will carry another one of these stickers, in the same spot, centered and straight and true.

Those "Pickin Aliens" show up just about anywhere don't they!

Very cool that Mr. User used one to play a song. I would have never of thought when I sent the twins, that they would be making such an "EPIC" journey as they did.

I would have never of thought when I sent the twins, that they would be making such an "EPIC" journey as they did.

they have, in fact, "been around." NEXT time, however, you and Shel need to make the gig in person. : )

...Thanks for posting the Message about Matt, prayer works!

you're welcome, and GO MATT!!! : )

What is the story about the twins...

well, Jim and Shel (Pdxs3t) have this thing about aliens. i've heard them say on more than one occasion that at least one of their kids is the direct result of an alien "spawning" experiment gone awry (sorry Chelsea!), and over the years Jim and Shel have sent me 'n D quite the little collection of the things, including, recently, the pair of guitar picks i had along for the BRAT/Matt ride.

that i brought the picks along at all was an unplanned, last minute deal, and they spent the trip in the change pocket of my Levi's, coming out at appropriate times to look around and pose for photos.

it is/was a small way to include my good friends Jim and Shel in the journey. they've had several "journeys" of their own over the past few years, and it's been awhile since they've gotten to do anything truly epic on their Buell.

taking the Alien Twins along was, when you get right down to it, an act of love, plain as that. call me Mr. Hallmark if you will, but i know you understand. : )
